A mil is probably high now that I thinkl about it But I recall the cat life figure as being much higher than 120,000 mi.. It was some life of the car figure that at the time it was being discussed came out to 20+ years of daily use.

I've owned cars that had 100,000 plus miles on them ( poor sucks ) and had no trouble with emmissions equipment. Considering I live in the NW that's pretty good. I rarely have heard of any cat going bad on a properly maintained car regardless of mileage. They're tough to break.

Hello Everyone:

To help promote The Interceptor-X EMS I have listed it (with a low starting price) on eBay with no reserve. For those of you wanting to buy this item at a discount... here is your opportunity. The auction will be running for 3 days only.
You can see the ad by going to this eBay Link

Thanks

Christy,

Do you need a boost controller for this application, or will running the Interceptor supercede it ?

To increase boost levels above GReddy Turbo Kit levels, a boost controller is required.

Christy I am interested. Is only 1 available (somebody bid on it), or are multiples (such as a buy it now) available at that price

"This Interceptor-X EMS on auction is for a turbo equipped Mazda RX8 only with no reserve. "quote

The interceptor that you placed on E-bay is only for the turbo RX8 , WHY NOT PLACE ONE FOR A naturally aspirated engine on the Australian page of E-BAY ??? :D

This is a nice idea but unfortunately it probably won't work. My guess is you're doing this to see what price people are willing to pay for the unit and if free market demand shows it really is "overpriced". (I won't go into technical details of economics so I'm simplifying things here.)

Unfortunately you won't be able to get that information. Game theory predicts that people who already want to buy the system will bid up the price until it nearly matches your retail price. They have nothing to lose by trying to get it even $5 cheaper via auction.

I think the best way to gauge customer price points is by having three units up for dutch auction with assurances to those already on the waiting list that they will also get the final auction price. This accomplishes two things: it eliminates bidding by people who are already willing to pay full retail, and it would show the highest price point at least three people are willing to pay.

If you had five units up for dutch auction and it didn't go above your starting bid, that would show you still have the price too high for most people.

Note all this does not take into account your COG and profit margins. I'm simply discussing the buyer's side of the supply/demand equation.

Maybe cut Scott and the rest of the folks at Mazsport some slack, guys. Everybody's been begging and begging for something like this to come out, and as soon as it does all people can say is "That's exactly what we wanted! Thanks for all the work! Now cut the price in half!" Cheap and marginally effective is what came with the GReddy kit. Consider what an Emanage costs brand new, and how much more this product does for you than an Emanage; then consider the fact that the Interceptor is one of only two products out there that can do what it does. The other is the HKS F-Con V, which costs more than the Interceptor, and can only be tuned by an HKS dealer and not by you, the user (I know the F-Con offers 32x32 mapping instead of 16x16, so don't bother bringing that up). I looked it up, and the closest HKS dealer to me is 8 hours away. Personally, I don't want to be eight hours away from the guy who has the keys to my EMS. As it happens, Mazsport is the same distance away, but the difference is that Scott is only ever a phone call away; plus he'll give me the software to tune this bad boy myself, as well as suffer all of my stupid questions while providing intelligent answers. Bottom line, yes this product is expensive; however that money goes a long way, and you get free tech support. If it is too expensive for you, fine. Coming in here moaning about it isn't likely to change anything, and just makes you sound like you want something (in this case a BIG something) for nothing. And while I am not a business or economics major, I don't think there are any theories out there that state that the best way to run a business is to give your product away just because a certain percentage of your target audience doesn't have or isn't willing to spend to money to buy it.

**EDIT - Turns out you can only get the F-Con from an HKS PRO Certified dealer. There aren't any of those in Florida at all. The closest one is in TEXAS. In fact, only 13 states have PRO Certified dealers in them. Again, I only bring this up to point out the level of support the end user is going to have with the only other product on the market that provides what the Interceptor will.**

For those that think its expensive, why not get this unit first, tune the car NA and get comfortable with the software, then buy a turbo kit later, in other words, do it in stages. I bet you can get some decent power, better mileage, better idle etc.... just from Mazsport unit.

Believe me, it will have features and options that will keep you busy for a while

I was a business management/accounting major. I agree with you two. But at the same time, when there isn't much available, you sometimes have to pay more than you want to. I will more than likely put myself on that buyers list really soon.

Scudrunner i have never met you but i have seen you car at mazsport, nice ride. I couldn't agree with you more, Scott is fair, knowledgeable, and a rotary enthusiast. I couldn't think of anyone else to work on a product for my car or the car itself. He currently is installing the second Interceptor-X ems in my vehicle, and I will have my impression on these forum as soon as i get to drive my car. I payed 3250 for the greddy kit plus installation closer to 4800 installed. I dynoed my car and had 236 horse and about 180 torque on the same dyno that scott did his testing. I think about 50 horse and 70 torque more, for about 1/3 the price of the greddy kit is not a bad price to pay. For all those who want to go fast cheap you should of bought another car like a NEON..............

Don't worry about Neon trolls. As the resident Neon owner ( '99 dohc coupe ) I can say that it's true. If you want speed on the cheap buy a Neon. Even beyond the SRT-4 Neons are cheap to mod plus disposable, if you tank an engine just buy another entire Neon.

I am not trying to put the owners or enthusiast of neons down. I think they are decent looking cars and if you ask me speed is speed no matter how you come by it. Its just that the market for go fast neon parts is larger more established and of course cheaper. Its also easier and cheaper to mod a car that is already a turbo, than to turn an N/A into a turbo.

I hope you weren't including me in that group, ScudRunner. I simply commented on the pricing strategy and why the eBay auction may not deliver the results/information Mazsport wanted.

It is simple supply and demand in my eyes. The RX-8 community has a high demand for something to boost the performance of our cars, and everyone knows that, since there is a small supply of these, the price is going to be high.

Think if you were in this position, if you created an ECU or Turbo or anything that is going to boost performance, you're going to want to charge the money for it since you can. Once more competition comes out to compete in price, you will start to drop the price, but for right now, there are people out there that want the power, and will spend the money to get it.

Just my two cents.
