Is the 6 port Renesis reman still available? My friend's '04 is toast and he may be looking for a replacement soon.

Talsingh,

There are a few things that affect what I call 'state of tune' including spark plug condition, plug wire condition. As far as easy starting of a rotary engine goes poor state of tune is a factor as well as engine compression and speed of cranking. A good and fully charged battery combined with the updated Mazda starter are very helpful even if the engine compression was getting weak. Fuel fouling of sparkplugs has been known to happen on these cars; it is also referred to as 'flooding'. Proper cranking speed combined with proper state of tune is very effective in preventing flooding as well as reflashes provided by Mazda for the engine computer. Some of the modifications provided by the re-flash include increased oil metering and delayed fuel delivery at start up. I do not know what re-flashes are offered by Mazda in the UK.

Having said all of that, you may want to measure engine vacuum at idle and consider a compression test so you have an idea of the internal condition of your engine. I hope that helps.

Paul.

My 8 was recently totaled, and I am looking at buying another one. I was looking into buying one that needed an engine replacement, because you can get those pretty cheap. So I was doing some research into how much rebuilt engines would be. Can I get a quote on both a 4 port and a 6 port and how much shipping would be?

There are variances but I can do close to $2000 plus core either way presently. We just sold our last 6 port gen1 type engine. We have 2 autos ready to go and one 09 6 port (Auto as well actually) but that's a little bit more.

Just let me know what you need and I can tell you if we already have it or can build it. The top of the ladder gets expensive with lots of extra new parts and modifications.

I am just planning for my first non mazda reman reman I want to start setting some cash aside. I would like a solid motor for future pettit use I don't think I want ceramic seals or anything too crazy though.

That makes sense. Olddragger is using one of our standard builds with no special mods. He has our RE-medy water pump and oil pressure kit but his was not built specifically for handling extra forces.
I recommend new rotor housings and some rotor machining in conjunction with some special apex seals at a reasonable price (To be announced). Port work is not essential, extra dowels are not needed unless you are going to be pushing VERY hard.

If you PM me we can discuss further details.

Paul.
