Hey Paul--Hope all is well.
i am up and running now and i have learned a lot. Broke my old engine down and was very surprised concerning a couple of things. Number one--i never realized there was that much space between where the sparkplug ends and the combustion chamber begins---haven for carbon and the resulting hotspots.
A lot of interesting stuff seen. Surprisingly a lot of my old recip performance knowledge actually applies to the rotary also.
By the way i bet it is the front rotor blowing on people isnt it?
One rotor blew--both housings unusable---you probably know why. 54k 04 engine.
the renesis is a stronger engine than I thought.
FI boys are finally(i believe) starting to break the learning curve.
Next issue will be the ppf and the trans---break out the weilding!
take care

Good to hear you're up and running Denny. Cam came by to visit today; always pleasant. He showed me some tuning stuff he's messing with. He and Candy seem to be doing well. He drove his supercharged ride up here.

So it looks like I have entered the large group of RX-8 owners who have needed to replace the Renesis. I have an 04 AT with 63000 miles. As long as I am replacing the engine anyway, would it be possible to drop the six port into the car & get rid of the 4 port all-together? How much additional fabrication would this take & would it be worth the effort?

Thanks, as always, for the expert advice!

Mazmart works Mon-Fri.

I'm sure Paul or Sheldon will PM you first thing monday. I doubt a MT swap will be cost efficient though unless you are doing the work yourself and have access to the tools required.

You need to change the wiring harness and ECU and a few other things as well..but it looks like it can be done

A lot of work and not cheap.......

It would require a fair amount of wiring, computers, the gearbox, hydraulics, driveshaft, pedals and quite a few extras. It's easier to replace the car with another but I'd be happy to sell you any or all of the components.

I do also have the auto engines in stock .

As fun as all that sounds, stock 4-port it is. ;-)

Let me know on the pricing, etc, & I will get it over to you. Any recommendations on if I should include any of your upgrades in the order? She's a daily driver, but I will admit to driving her a bit hard at times; I guess I might as well upgrade while I have the chance.

Thanks!

You have been PMed with info on the engine. If you do not have on of our pumps, now would be the perfect time to acquire one. We can install it on the engine prior to shipping. Thanks.

I hope I wont need an engine for a while but what would you suggest for a FI 6MT street car that does 4-5 track days per year? And what would it cost?

I always advise starting with new rotor housings during a rebuild for forced induction. The need for new housings relates to achieving the best sealing possible with new apex seals. It's more critical in FI due to the increased chance of detonation. According to how much pressure you intend to pump you might consider adding at least one engine dowel to hold things together. Porting isn't a necessity on these as they flow a lot of air as it is. We offer a lot of mods including e shaft polishing and bearing break in. The options are numerous.

Focusing on the cooling system is also high on my list: Our water pump and radiator are recommended to keep temps in check. A semi trick motor would average around $5000 to $6000 with new housings and a bag of Engman tricks.

I was thinking last night; if your engine builder hasn't built over 1000 rotaries maybe he/she may not be sufficently qualified to build your engine . More than one time training in Japan doesn't hurt either.

Do you guys actually do installs too, or only supply the motors? And if you do, where are you located?

We presently operate as a parts supplier only. Our engine builder has been doing rotaries for over 35 years (Most for racing) and making, destroying and repairing automotive stuff for more like in excess of 55.

We are in Atlanta GA and there are some sharp rotary installers around here.

Quite a drive for me, but I've made it before. I know I'll need a rebuild, or a new motor at some point, FI is playing with fire. Currently, the prospect of putting an engine in myself seems very daunting, but maybe I'll feel differently down the road (assuming my engine lasts that long).

There is a race on the 5th of December that I'm planning on attendending at Road Atlanta. I'm not sure if that's the one to which you're referring.

Looks like I caught this thread a little too late! Great to hear this! This, at least in my opionion, seems to be a better choice then just getting the racing beat kit with the lightweight rotors and all for 2k. I'd rather have my entire engine built to spec with all the bells and whistles by you guys then just sent to me.

Plug and play my friend.

I'll definitely keep this in mind when that time will come..a year or so down the road..but it'll come at some point.

Zelse,

We appreciate your thoughts and look forward to serving you. It should only get better and better over time as we continue to advance the science. I'm hoping to encourage Rick to set up the dyno for running renesis units, for those that can afford a dyno break in.

Thats awesome news to hear Paul. My goal for the future of my car is to eventually be a all out track car, so why not have a all out race engine? :D
