I will be monitoring EGTs as soon as I am up and running. Hopefully I can begin this weekend. I am going to document the process of downloading and installing maps, datalogging, and any lessons learned. I will try to post everything asap but it will be the first time my car has been started after the turbo install so I don't expect everything to go perfectly. If it does, I will share everything I can.

There are plenty of people that have had problems with all hi-flo cats in standard tune. I will probably going to a resonated midpipe and swapping in and out the cat when it's time for emissions testing.

Yeah, like it or not, the highflow cats on standard otherwise stock rx-8s have a seemly high failure rate. Leaning out the fuel is going to make it quite a bit hotter. Going catless is cheaper and not going to have any failures.

The AP also lets you delete the CEL that usually results from catless too, so you will still know if your car throws a genuine CEL.

I received a tracking number from MM, but I'm waiting on Scott's ignition and midpipe currently before I install the AP.

I'd like to remove the cat but nobody would appreciate the smell. I read that Rotary Performance was using some new type of core that is supposed to handle the heat better. I was optomistic but I'm starting to regret my purchase. The Mazsport midpipe would be nice but it's just really expensive!

Do they have emissions testing where you live?

I have a rotary performance high flow cat for a few years and ran it through some good torture testing.

The cats fail for a number of reasons - high heat caused by lean mixtures, heat caused by overly rich mixtures and misfires and flooding, and vibrations cracking the metal matrix free and rattling it around until its fubar'd. It seems to come down to the health of your car and a luck of the draw that determines how long they will last.

DUDE!!!!!
I thought I was f'n crazy, that it was me. I have the same problem both when I'm NA and when I'm using the spray.
Like I said however I thought it was totally in my head, so I've never searched or spoke of it.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread MM.
Do you have a thread you could direct me in Razz1?

the catless thing should be a lot better with the AP since the idle will be quite lean. I had 16 AFR with the stock PCM, and 12 with the int-x.

I cut to the chase and called Rotary Performance just now. I told them that I plan on using the AP which will raise the temps and they couldn't recommend using the Supercat. I changed my order to a midpipe. Stage 3 here I come.

Morkus, I do have emissions testing. I figure I can swap the stock cat back in when the time comes. If I find the midpipe to be too loud I may only use it on the track.

Not a hi-jack at all! I think a lot of that sort of bogging will go away with the leaner mixtures in the new calibrations.
There are several controls in place to adjust high-RPM fuel depending on different conditions. I've addressed several of them, but it will probably take some track days in a normally aspirated car to uncover all the possibilities.

I will be ordering my AP through the Group buy and was wondering jeff, is there any other way I could have access to these maps, member fee or something?

TIA

Something does not seem right here. Why would Cobb undercut his dealers or hold his dealers to a certain sell price?

It appears that it is not a approved group buy that was posted. Admin's are looking into it.

Heh...I think the advantage of buying thru Jeff is...

1) is give him leverage power with Cobb...
2) you get HIS attention...
3) you are HIS customer...

Most importantly by supporting him...you basically are helping everyone...

To me that is worth the price...saving a few bucks is less important than giving him as much leverage with Cobb for feedback and communication as possible.

Benefit...you get the maps...
