Would a high flow cat be better?
Removing the catalytic and putting in a straight cat-delete midpipe is the easiest mod and likely the best gains for ease and cost imo.

Now ... if you are thinking about mods that best suit the MM tuning process .... again I would say this is your best mod.
The catalytic is a major restriction in any exhaust system that has one ... removing it helps period. (Not to mention the RX8 catalytic tends to fail and you might as well save it for just passing the emissions tests )

I'm also going to mention that it weighs a ******* tonne ... really .... gotta be 30lbs anyways .... someone may know the weight.

So all that being said ... I'm not sure where you got the information or idea that removing the catalytic on an "Automatic" is a minor power loss.
I would like to see that thread if you have a link. Maybe I'm completely wrong on this <shrug>

I can weigh the stock cat tonight... it's chilling in the corner of my garage along with all my other stock components that have been removed over the years..... but It might already be in the stock part weights thread

No mistake on that logic about the cat... Have read your other posts on this before... And i agree with you..

Anyways,
Tried to find the link but cant seem to find it...

if not mistaken, this is the one...

http://www.rx8clubsingapore.com/view...t+pipe&start=0

I was just recently on a totally staright pipe, single sided custom exhaust... The car was damn loud !!!

More like an F1 car roaring through the streets!

Anyways, when i was on it... felt like the car was barely climbing through the rpms... Felt like the air was flowing through too freely...

Changed back to my Knight sports High Flow Cat and it was better...

Based on butt dyno nonetheless...

*just my 2 cents from a daily driver*

Ok, first of all I am completely new to tuning. ^.^;; Secondly, I can't seem to find the information I am looking for about the Cobb.

I read in one of the posts that there is an expected gain of 10-20HP. What about fuel economy? My 8 is completely stock right now and I am looking to see if this will improve both engine performance and fuel economy. If it does improve fuel economy, how much does it do it by? I'm trying to justify if $600 is worth it, basically.

Thanks!

MM;

Got a question for ya. So I have been working on a new device for the S2 folks, you can check out my progress here: https://www.rx8club.com/series-ii-interior-audio-electronics-167/rxduino-development-chat-218257/

My question is, do you know exactly how the AP is masking PIDs? With my device I have both read and write access to the MS and HS CANBUS. Maybe we can collaborate a bit? Us S2 guys would love to get even a simple PID masking going.

Only expect that kind of gain if you have the mods to support it (exhaust system, etc). Otherwise, you MOST LIKELY won't see that gain.
Actually, you can ask MM to decrease your fuel consumption as part of your tune (which he does, anyways). Don't expect a huge amount of savings. Maybe 1-3mpg?

All RX-8 AccessPORTs are mechanically identical. They will work on any of the models I list on my WEB site.

That said, it will "work" but it will do absolutely nothing until you have it tuned by someone who knows how to tune it.

hey guys, is the AP for the rx8 married to the ecu or the vin? Is the vin for my vehicle stored anywhere in the accessport?

Have had the MazdaManiac custom tune but only part way through it. Was wondering if there is a time limit for getting my calibrations sent to MazdaManiac. I have only recieved my second map but havent gotten around to doing the drive logs for it. I am sitting close to a year.

The calibration service is valid for 6 months from the date of purchase.

You were sent 8 e-mails over a period of three months in March, April and May explaining the new submission process.

I asked this on another thread and got a bit of a response (thanks to those) but I recently suffered loss of compression so my 8 is currently being rebuilt but im also having porting done and was wondering how this affects my calibration ive on done 2 logs so far but will I have to start from base again or can I use my last calibration to record my next logs I only ask cos im closing in on my 6 months now and im gonna have to run the new engine in first.
I would ask this on the new google talk scheme but I keep missing the dates .

Starting from scratch wouldn't be too bad of an idea imho, I'm sure MM will chime in with the right answer though!
Dunno if he'll have mercy on the 6 months though

As indicated in the purchase agreement (quoted below and in the attached screen-shot from GoogleCheckout) to which you agreed when clicking through “place your order now”, AccessPORT orders are shipped in the order they are received and typically go out in 11 business days from the date of payment.
Orders are processed in the sequence in which they are received. Orders will typically ship within eleven (11) business days from receipt of payment.
Shipping times vary by destination. Shipping is by UPS to the USA and USPS to all other locations.
ALL PURCHASERS **MUST** PROVIDE A VALID E-MAIL ADDRESS (NOT A GOOGLE-PROVIDED E-MAIL ADDRESS) TO RECEIVE THE MAZDAMANIAC CUSTOM CALIBRATION SERVICE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN NO CALIBRATION INSTRUCTIONS, UPDATES, SHIPPING INFORMATION OR FURTHER INFORMATION!
You received a payment confirmation from Google when you placed your order on Saturday the 24th of September and your C.C. was charged on Monday the 26th of September, therefore your AccessPORT would typically ship on or before the 11th of October.

Information on the Custom Calibration Service can be found here:

AccessPORT Instructions Instructions

Thanks!

The sales term you agreed to sign upon purchase clearly state "all sales are final. no returns. no refunds"...
