BTW, why'd you go with the replica and not the real MS? Everything else on your car is Authentic... was it that big of a difference in price?

Sent him a pm Monday, and his price is much better...still more than I was anticiapting when I purchased the bumper.

I bought this because it was a one-piece bumper. With the real MS bumper, I would have had to buy a new OEM bumper, have it painted, and then buy the MS bumper and install it.

This would be 850.00 for a new OEM bumper and paint. 800.00 or so for the MS bumper.

This one was 400 and was already painted. The seller was honest about the scratch on the rear, but I thought I could have it fixed for about 100 bucks or so. I thought maybe it could have been buffed out. No luck.

Why did I go with the replica....I thought I would be able to convince myself it was good enough. But as Loren and Denward know, from the hours spent to get it installed....it is definately not the real thing. I am definately questioning myself on this, going cheap is usually not my style...and I am paying for that decision now

The bumper has a small scratch to the right of the liscence plate...but the main problem is the stress cracking that resulted from shipping. The lower portion, which is painted grey, has tiny lines all the way through the paint, across the entire lower portion.

I'll try and get a picture in the daylight.

The other option I have, is to have the OEM bumper repaired. Fix it auto told me that it is possible. They quoted me 280 to repair the bumper, and then another 400 to paint/prep it.

The OEM bumper has a small vertical crack, about 3 inches in length, running up from the hard plastic portion into the liscence plate recess.

Unhappy my 8 is gone

dunno how many of you san berdoo peeps know, but my 8 is no more .

on last tuesday night (5-9-06) i was out and about, with some friends. i took a right turn that i had over estimated. i thought it was going to be a quick right, where instead it became a very long right turn. i simultaneously turned the wheel hard to the right and hit my brakes when i had realized the length of the turn, but by then it was already too late. My car had had understeered, went on loose gravel, hit a dirt embankment, went over the rail and into the ditch below. My car ended up stopping on a large rock approximatley 2ft. tall and 3ft. wide. The ditch where my car ended up at, is about 60ft deep is my best guess, but it could be deepr or shallower. It was hard to tell because of all the foliage in the area. Where my car stopped at was about 15ft. down into the ditch.

I myself am fine, i was just sore from the shock, and have one small bruise on my right arm is all that happened to me. I found out yesterday though that my car is totalled.

Damages to my car:
1. rear bumper
2. front bumper
3. left oil cooler
4. cracked radiator
5. driver side door
6. muffler
7. suspension
8. other undercarriage damages i forget ATM.

holy crap jonathan... am so sorry to hear this happened. had no idea at all, cuz all i read about here was the tix for the front plate. are u doing alright? but, yah- the good thing is you & your passengers are all ok. so, if your car is totalled, will the residual pay-out be anywhere close enough to put towards a new 8? how did ur car get so dusty? and, are u pulling out your seats? what's happening next?

between my insurance, and gap insurance, i'm not going to have any money left over for down payment on a new car. the fix it ticket, i'll have to take to pomona court house and inquire about it seeing that the car was "permantly fixed". I had no passengers in my car at time of incident, it was just me by myself. The car bacame dirty when i hit the dirt embankment. I spoke to the insurance about the seats, and they said no, i can't pull them out. I know, I know, some of you guys were interested in the seats.

dang, that does suxors...

but, try to keep a positive outlook tho- u'll get over this hump and when things are better u'll get another 8 again. life is filled w/ ups & downs, and what doesn't knock u down just makes u stronger.

oh, and u misunderstood about the seats- i just thought u might've wanted to save them for ur new 8 when u get it
