@ Keith - Any pics of the stealth mobile from Sunday?
@ Lesper - I'll post those pics as soon as I find them. Between work, my laptop, and my home pc, I never remember where I put them.

OMG
white rx8 spotted at romero motors this morning when i was dropping off my car~ it had a purple ROTORLUTION decal, and a body kit, with a nice sounding exhaust!!!
they were writing my work order up, and it was erica's car that pulled up. there was a technician in the driver seat and a service adviser in the passenser seat. i guess they just got back from a test drive.

Casey also has some shots that he took from the event. Those will probably be up prior to my shots.

Drove the car, with the Hiros on, to Romero on Monday. They didn't do anything with the car and Erica called at 2:30. She got the impression that the Tech forgot about the car. She got a call about an hour later, saying that she needed to come down to the dealership. The tech said that he couldn't find the problem during his visual inspection, and that he wouldn't be able to get authorization to do anything else given that there were aftermarket wheels installed. He suggested that the problem may be due to a cracked rim. He asked if we had access to a set of stock rims. We went to the house, picked up my autocross rims/tires and brought them down. They switched the rims...putting the stocks back on...and were not able to reproduce the grinding. We left there yesterday around 6:00pm, leaving the car one more day, to see if they could get the noise to appear.
I don't know if Erica has been called yet today..or whether they were able to get the grinding to come back. I figure she may have loosened something in the suspension at the autocross. I can't see how a cracked rim could produce the noise and grinding that we are hearing, and feeling though the steering wheel and passenger floor board.
If Romero says they can't find anything...I will most likely mount the (suspected) bad rim to my car, to see if it happens on my car. If it doesn't, then I would have to assume that the problem is not the rim.
To be continued....

Erica said that the tech spent an hour driving the car today and couldn't get the problem to show itself. So, it looks like I will be mounting some Hiro's on my 8.

oooooh, that should make a good wall paper for the work computer. Hope it isn't too blurry. I'm still pulling little rubber peices out of my teeth, and washed a whole bunch out of my hair on Sunday.

Tried to trouble shoot the problem while talking with Casey over the cell phone. Couldn't figure out where the grinding was coming from.

the car does several things which concerned both Erica and I. The car pulls to one side, as if the alignment is severly off. The grinding can be felt in the steering wheel when driven, as well as when the car is jacked up and the wheel is spun by hand. The car actually slows significantly (in nuetral) when the grinding is occuring. To do this, we drove up to 10 mph and then placed the car in nuetral. Each time the grinding occured (it seemed to happen at the same point in the revolution of the tire), the car slowed significantly. At one point, the grinding actually occured upon complete stop. The noise can be heard in and outside of the car when the car is driven, but only inside the car when the car is jacked.
I think you were on the right track to think it has to do with the supension. I sounds like anti-roll bars maybe loose on one side because that can push the car to one side and if it's loose that may be the noise I'm not sure. I may be wrong but it's worth a look just to see if everything is tight and in the right place.

I'm sure they did that down at the dealer on their visual inspection. I'm sure they checked the bolts especially on that right side.
Have you known anyone who has cracked a rim? Would a cracked rim cause this kinda problem?

No I don't know anybody that has, If the balance is off it can make the car shake but what this sounds like it worse, plus you guys change rims right? so if a rim did break then it broke off and hit something inside and is now causing the car to do this. not the whole rim like a chip or something

The rims we put on her car were the ones Xrider01 has been driving on since he purchased his car. Following the autocross event, we exchanged the stock wheels from Snowfl8k's 8, with the Hiro's on Xrider's 8. I put the rims on, drove the car around the block, rechecked the lugs, and then went inside. The following day, we drove it to dinner and went 8 miles on the freeway. Upon exitting the freeway, the noise/grind was heard/felt. Nothing was hit on the freeway, no holes/bumps were hit...nothing. The first thing I did was recheck the lugs again. There were two lugs lose, one on the left front, and another on the right rear front. Both were tightened.
Interestingly, when we had the rims changed at the dealer yesterday, the service manager came out and said, "did you know you only have three lugs on the right front tire". This didn't make any sense to me given that I had checked these twice. I'm wondering if one of the wheel studs is bent, or is loose or something.
Honestly, I think the previous tech (the one who was working on the car during the day) pulled that rim off, and forgot where he placed two of the lugs. I don't believe that two lugs fell off on the way to the dealer, especially after tightening them twice.
Who knows?
