The Oil Pressure guage on the dash is basically an On/Off reader. It doesn't move smoothly throughout the range to show you exactly how much pressure it is. Really all it tells you is if the needle is / then you have some pressure and if it's _ then you have none.

Good luck with this. When I changed out my spark plugs 10,000 miles ago it was a major pain and took a buddy and I both changing out several times before they were finally loose enough to unscrew.

What works better than ice is a bottle of "dust off" computer spray

Hot engine and turn the bottle & spray upside down....you will get instant ice cold...

It sounds like your engine was toast or at least on its way out before that if its chock full of carbon as you stated. What do the plugs you removed look like exactly? If you have never seen an rx8 plug with lots of miles on it you might think they look horrible when its just normal. A pic might help.

How did you determine how much oil was left in it, dipstick or drain plug? If it was only at the bottom of the dipstick but you could still see it then that is only like 2 quarts down I think?

I keep a 36" long 3/4" breaker bar around for a reason, cheap from Harbor Freight too ...

I have broken more 1/2" x 3/4" adapters than I care to admit

With a lack of knowledge, lack of skill and poor tools - failure is inevitable .

Get a 1/2" drive sparkplug socket , 1/2"long extension , 1/2" swivel ,and a breaker bar about 18" long .
Once you have access to the plugs by taking the wheel off the rest is easy.

And that what it was....poor tools. I got a 1/2" breaker bar and used extensions and the spark plug came out perfectly. Thanks again for everyones help. I also got the wheel off with ease with the breaker bar that i got and didn't even need remove the impact wrench from the packaging.

As for the carbon, I don't know what I am talking about, so maybe it was normal. I was just saying that there was carbon about a quarter of the way up on every spark plug, but the tips are all orangish brown(copper color). However, there was some blackness in the plugs. I'll post pictures tomorrow. I also bought sea foam at auto zone, so i'll let you guys know how that works out. (bad idea?)


Also, when i had all the plugs removed and after I changed the oil, I turned the engine over for 5 second bursts for at least 3 minutes with the fuel punp fuse out. So, any unburnt gas in there is outso.

its not a true gauge, just a good/bad light. if its off you (probably good) if the light is on, you can be anywhere from a teaspoon short, to zero oil. The gauge never moves.

NGK recommends NOT using anti-seize on new plugs, as they are coated with a special plating from the factory. Mazda does not use anti-seize when new.

That said, I do use anti-seize if I'm re-using old plugs, as the original plating is fouled and compromised (although I never re-use old plugs on the RX-8).

This is an incredibly amusing method of killing bugs too.

You also get greater pressure if you put it under hot water in the sink - but not too long or it could explode.

Explode you say? I really want to rig up remote twin torches because that is so much more useful than remote turbos.
