AP > RB. I realize it's a bit more but I think it's worth the money.
do you know what the RB flash sets the OMP to?
I know they lower the fan temps but what do they set them do?

with your port and mods, I think you're probably better off with something a bit more customizable.

RB Gen III is formatted to their porting template specs. Its $300 versus and AP for $500 plus $300 worth of tuning. Id save $500 I have no need to spend

Jeff only charges $600 with the tune. If you were to buy one from someone else or buy one used then yes you have to add the $300 tuning fee.

OK so an extra $300 I don't need to spend. I mean I'm using RB's porting templates and tune you cant get much more matched up than that.

Sure I could squeeze and extra 2 hp if I got an Ap with a custom tune, but for an extra $300 I really don't see the need.

I have no warranty so the PCM wont be touched by mazda ever.

I premix so extra output on the OMP isn't really necessary. it isn't like I'm boosted or anything.

Its not like Racing beat are noobish tuners, who have no clue what the rotary needs.

No sir I have not. I want to do a compression check and I need a new clutch.

once those two things get completed its off to the rollers, then a tune then more rollers.

[6 months later...]

Any news? Compression? Dyno?

I'm starting my first rebuild in a month or so, my car got a new engine so I'm doing it just for fun, can take all the time I want for it and I don't care much if it explodes . This thread is a real inspiration, not to mention the dozens of useful hints from RR, Charles and MM.

It's extremely cool that your first rebuild engine works so well!

How is the idling, did it finally settled? Do you notice more power with the porting? Sound changued?

I don't know how you could not test the compression and still sleep , once I install mine, if it works (big IF) I know I'm going to test the compression as fast as possible!

Idle is a little off but it might just need a tune.

You will need to break your engine in first before you are able to perform a compression test.

Can you be without your car for 2 or 3 weeks and have $2k+ sitting around.

Also have you had your compression checked?

Well I gave up on compression tests car still runs after 7 months or something, I'm happy...

After some sweet *** tuning by Mazdamaniac I pulled 218 whp!!

At 207 whp before we lost the pickup I was getting 145 tq, So an estimate form MM was 150 tq.

Hoping to get 220+ next year!

Sweet, is that a record for an NA with your level of mods? Can you please list your mods again. Thanks.

No clue I guess it is, I haven't seen any NA dyno sheets going past 215

Sorry for the **** quality, don't mind the torque. The first 4 runs were picking up around 147tq at 207 whp.

Best we figured it it was 150 tq at 218 whp airflow at 440.

Mods...

D585 ignition system assembled by me wires purchased from rotaryfan 1991 fixed by BHR (Thanks Ray)
RP super cat with a blown cat
HKS Hi Power
ACT prolite flywheel
ACT HD street clutch
SR motor sports pulleys
Stock intake with a panel filter
Wrapped boost bros headers
RB template street port done by my friend and me when we were doing the rebuild

I think that's it for relevant mods, next year I want to break 220.

Stock intake FTW. I wonder just how much the header and HKS added. I think Jedi dynoed a little higher than that and I know TeamRX8 hit 224WHP but he had a custom exhaust and header setup as well as some other goodies I believe.

Bad *** dude, that is awesome.

Around 440 through 8200 rpm. It started to taper off at 8200 if I remember correctly.

Doubt it was much but the header is wrapped so that helps out a bit. If I had a properly functioning cat or no cat, new plugs and some other junk I could have hit my 220 target.
