sorry guys I should have a breathalyzer hooked up to my computer.

I just know I was reading that using synthetic engine oil it was best to have the OMP pumping in from an external reservoir that had idemitsu or some 2cyl alternative in it.. Honestly their are so many opinions flying around this forums it almost makes my head explode.

so i've read this thread and I appreciate ALL the informative posts.

My conclusion:

I'd like to try the Idemitsu + FP+ assist combo. MMO is the most cost effictive (bang for the buck) but doesn't act as well lubrication as previous stated combo. There's alot of positive opinions for both said pre-mixs but not so much for the Lucas brands.

(** ) i think at the end of the day, cleaning + lubricating is the GOAL. anyway, i like to be a cost effective guy so i'm all up for ordering stuff online and in bulk.

questions:

what are my CHEAPEST online ordering options?

Idemitsu: http://www.mazdatrix.com/q-supply.htm
FP+ : ????
MMO: ???

lucas saber: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atp.aspx
other lucas products: ????

THANK YOU!

This might be a stupid question but, does it matter what oil your running in the engine itself to the oil your premixing with? The reason l ask is l still use Mazda's rotary oil and don't want to premix with a synthetic when l should be using a mineral based oil.

Thanks guys.

for a test, and you only have 1 variable, thats fine. both are burnt up, and neither react to each other.

Mazdatrix is where I got my Idemitsu. As for the FP+, I can't seem to find the website I used. Could it have been shutdown?

Does anyone use the Idemitsu crank case oils? They don't have 10w-40 listed, which is what I would want, but I was wondering if anyone thinks its good, or worthwhile.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the website. http://lubecontrol.com/products_fuel_power.php That is where mysql pointed me when I first asked.

this is the 1st time i've read in this thread that a synthetic oil is highly recommended. It makes sense to me lubricating wise but to us car newbs; it's not so apparent.

so Synthetic 5w-20 in your system with premix = win?

Read up some more.

0w30 synthetic in your system or more (i.e. 0w40, 10w50 for hot climates, etc...) and premix.

Premix is any jaso or ISO EG 2 cycle oil.

The premixes are pretty much all synthetic too.

ya, even on stock, everyone pretty much says 30 weight minimum, no one has anything nice to say about 20 weight. I use 10w-40 with turbo, but I might switch to 20w-50. People generally say my climate isn't hot enough to worry about needing heavier weight, but what's the down side? Harder to start? Reduced efficiency? I could live with those.

+1 on premixing. I'm currently using 4oz Lucas Upper Cylinder and 3 oz Quicksilver 2-Cycle Oil, both of which you can find at your local Autozone. I could tell a difference right away. My engine idles MUCH smoother as it was abnormally rough prior to premixing. Throttle is much smoother too. It feels like it helps with shifting since the power feels more linear now. I'm now at 38,000 miles. Wish I had started from day one.

we are not talking about motor oil...

you put what ever you want in the motor..

if you put anything in your tank.. it needs to be 2 stroke syn oil.. and it needs to be added the right way.

Hi ,

A question to anybody that uses premix.

If you read all those pages written in this topic you will find out that many people had problems with clogged fuel filters after premixing. So the question goes:

why do you still use premix after having heard those problems with fuel pumps ?

A. Do you think that the clogged fuel pump was an spurious correlation concerning premix?
B. You do not mind if your fuel pump gets clogged because you are having your fuel tank always half full?
C. You do not think that premix will clogged your fuel pump because you use a small quantity?
D. Only wrong type of premix will get clogged the fuel pump no matter that somebody mentioned clogging by just using the best premix which is Idemitsu?
F. None of the above, premix will never clogged your fuel pump , the incidents that happened are irrelevant to premix ?

I'm now approaching 80,000 miles on my factory motor. I've used Idemitsu pre-mix since around 35,000 miles. I used to do 8 oz a tank till around 60,000 miles when I installed my sohn adapter and switched to 4oz a tank. I also use the AP for increased oiling.

Looking forward to the next 80,000 miles!

it is a wrong combo or something like that..

it is not easy.. the answers might be never correct,

but if i were going to premix. and i have.. and have a couple of fuel pumps laying around..

first.. use a good gas.. same place everytime..

second. use a know 2 stroke syn oil..

third. mix it with gas before you put it in the tank..

hey,

but what do i know..

beers

Very very very few people reported this.

There was never ANY proof that it had anything to do with premix.

Clogged filter /= premix fault.

Premix is MADE for THAT purpose. Its designed to be mixed in with gasoline to then be injected by the injectors and protect your engine, or a rotax/motorcycle/marine/chainsaw engine.

Thing is, good quality 2 cycle premix made for motorcycles (not chainsaws or marine motors) is designed to work just fine with fuel filters and modern engines.

The fuel pumps are weak on our cars (pre-09 at least). This is probably why the design changed on the '09's. I premix with Idemitsu and my pump went out at 61k miles. My dad has never premix'd and his went out just short of 70k miles. I still guess that the majority of fuel problems are due to 3 things. First, the pumps design limitations and/or excessive wear. Second, prolonged use of poor quality gas. Third, using a the wrong product as a premix or a some concoction of multiple products that causes issues. I would not classify Idemitsu into the wrong product group.

After reading everything, and I mean everything, related to premixing on this site, I've come to the following non-scientific conclusion. I will only premix with Idemitsu. I will never mix any chemicals that are poured into my gas tank. I'm not a chemical engineer so I don't know or understand what happens when these things are combined so I've decided it's just best to never do it. Occasionally I add cleaning products to my gas but I always make sure to run at least one full tank of gas through my car without premixing before adding anything. I'm just an rx-8 enthusiast and by no means a professional. I premix 4-6oz of Idemtisu in each tank of gas. When premixing with Idemtisu I make sure there's at least a 1/4 of a tank of gas. I'll add an ounce then fill. Repeating the process until the proper amount has been added.

it doesnt really matter which premix you use IMO.

The problem with this pump is that ... it simply sucks.

This pump dies really fast if you always let fuel light come on before you refuel. The pump will over heat a lot and dies (since Fuel act as Coolant for Fuel Pumps)

IF my pump die again (I replaced it my own a while ago), Im gonna retro fit the 09 pump like OD.

What do you think ? Is it a good premix?

Yep, I have been using it, the blue 2 stroke mixes very easily and is very clean, I also use it in my 2 stroke lawn mower with no issue and it goes not burn any smoke.

It's not the only oil you can use, but, IMO it is up there with the best...
As long as you use any good quality product with the standards you listed you will be OK.

Thanks for the previous info, but what you said above has me curious. I though you guys just simply popped the 8oz or 4oz (or whatever) in during filling up?

Also, l've gone with castrol TTS Synthetic 2-Stroke.
