Well no doubt people have gone high miles with no problems... I'm just wondering since It's gone 45,000 without premixing if starting now would generate any issues. Don't think that it would but what do I know? I'm a rotary rookie.

 

I guess we'll see what the apexes look like when I decide to pull this engine apart.

Ive been using mmo at every fill up and I have no complaints and no issues... all it did was improve my idle and power.

i have no clue what all these ratios 100:1, 800:1, 40:1 mean. Can someone clairify how many oz of 2cycle i shoud be adding with a full tank of gas?

100:1 Means a ratio of 100 parts gasoline to 1 part premix.

A gallon contains 128 oz.

 

Well another interesting theory I have heard against the premix is the following:

“By premixing you are making the mixture lean so you may have nocking – pre-ignintion problems.”

This statement someone claims that it came direct from Mazda Japan !

What do you comment on that?

 

It's been discussed here by the knowledgeable types and the effect on octane is absolutely negligible and of no consequence.

Has anyone used XP3 fuel cleaner? I just saw a big booth for it at a car show. It seems a little too mysterious though. No info on whats in it.

Wow! This is a long thread, and I finally chugged through most of it.


I just recently bought an '04 GT with 85k miles that needed some minor work (bumper, bumper cover, radiator, side markers, etc.) from a dealer in Utah that sells mostly salvage-titled vehicles (anyone in Texas lost a black GT with red/black interior? . I've been a huge fan of this car even before it came out, and I finally got the chance to have my own! I still haven't driven it too much as the bumper cover is not properly fitted - no thanks to aftermarket mazdaspeed type.

The car starts up fine with no fuss, but the idle is far from smooth. For the first tank, I didn't premix, but have been planning to do so all along. On my second tank, I used slightly less than 8oz of Motul 800 2T (http://www.motodepot.com/product_det...=1339&sku=3301) which I picked up from my local motorcycle shop, and cost me around $16 for a liter (!!). So far, I have gone through about half of the tank, and feel like my idle got worse (ugh), but smoother under all other conditions. Of course, it's most likely all in my head as I have basically no experience with this engine. Hopefully it will smooth out with a few more tanks - which I'll surely be able to notice now.

Anyways, I really just wanted to mention the Motul oil, and mention a bit of my background as this is my first post on this forum - though I have been lurking for a little while now.

I tend to listen to people praising products infront of a green screen. Oh, and women who pretend they know what they are talking about with 18% fuel savings because she has been tracking it you know. Like any additive, it doesnt hurt to try but you will most likely be throwing your money away.

EDIT: Holy crap lol. Did you see how much it costs? Its $30 for FOUR .8 oz bottles and $108 for 12 .8oz bottles. If they are the "leading company" in whatever they said they were, then how come we are just hearing about them lol. Im not wasting my money.

 

ehh id change your coils plugs and wires. then do the mazda engine zoom cleaner.

 

As another perhaps meaningless testimonial, I tried some MMO in our lawnmower just out of curiosity. I used about 20:1. Really I was mostly curious to see if it would smoke. I noticed 2 things. First, it was difficult to start. Second, it made a noticeable difference when cutting the tall grass! Whereas before I had to mow narrow strips through the tall stuff to keep the mower from choking, it now seemed more than happy to chew through a full swath. This was very real and not my imagination. There are certain areas in the yard which receive abundant fertilization (from the dogs!), and have always been a pain to mow through in the spring and early summer. The difference was both immediately noticeable and greatly appreciated.

On the 2nd use of the mower, there were no startup problems. I guess the first time it was because I dumped in the MMO and immediately tried to start up; probably got a good slug of oil in the carb.

BTW, did not notice any smoking.

New '04 owner here, 36k 6speed in AZ. I ran second tank w/ seafoam in gas and since then I've been running till empty and then adding 8 oz. MMO before filling up with 91. I want to get a case of Idemitsu but I can't remember the URL where it's cheapest. And I also want to supplement the 4 oz. of Ide w/ 2 oz. of either MMO or FP Plus. After reading about how FP Plus breaks carbon down to graphite, I'm sold, but it looks like I just missed the last group buy so I'll use MMO till the next one unless I can get some from the same vendor as the Idemitsu for an okay price. I read somewhere that you shouldn't let the fuel get lower than 1/2 if you're using 2-stroke premix, I think to protect the fuel pump. Is that a big concern?

 

heh - from someone who ALWAYS runs the tank to well below E , take it from me that is does not make the slightest bit of difference .

Carefull about mixing different potions together though - there were a lot of issues a while back from people doing that .

I know that it has been discussed thoroughly through out this thread however there are some people that claim that using OMP and Premix will create more carbon inside the chambers. I tell them that premix resist the forming of carbon inside the chambers but they tell me that you should deactivate the OMP if you want to use premix.

What do you say about that?

Why some Racing Teams chose to deactivate the OMP and use premix and not using both OMP and Premix. ?????????

Maybe I'm just retarded, but I haven't been able to find anything locally that is JASO certified that doesn't cost $5 for a crappy little bottle.

I found some Motul 800 but I've read that it's a bit thick and only supposed to be used as a "pre-mix" and I was looking for something to put into my OMP tank.

 

yeah, and under $10 + shipping, might as well get a case or you can option for the 30 gallon or 55 gallon drum
