Low on Power

Hi guys
Had my 2003 stock std rx8 on my own dyno this weekend.
My car was feeling low on power since I bought it in Nov 2007. So I started browsing the net and this Forum for any info. So far the only thing that might make sense is coils. The car has 86000 km on the clock and in very good condition. I'm the second owner and the car's got full service history. (contact the mazda service deparment). Mazda says there is nothing wrong with my car and there is also no fault codes. Did a ECU reset and had a small improvement in midrange. While the car was on the dyno I also checked if all the valves and gizmo's work, they do!

So all I got out the car was 97rwkw(131.08 rwhp) while braking the dyno at 8200 rpm.(3rd gear and also 4th)
Checked the AF ratio's :
Idle - 15.2
Mid - 13.8
WOT - 12.8

I made about 6 runs to verify.

ANY IDEAS?

Are you 6 speed or 5 speed - if you are on a dyno dynamics you should be 160-170hp for 6 speed and 130-140 for a 5 speed ......

It's a 6 speed. The dyno is a Dastek dyno. On enertia run the car made a little less hp. When driving the car it feels asif it struggles to get some air into the motor from 6000 rpm upwards. I checked at the engine that the SSV actuator and the VDI actuator opens at WOT on the dyno. Could not check the APV motor for operation. I do not think that the APV itself would make such a big diff.

do you have the dyno chart to post up ? - it may help to diagnose .
also : have you had a compression check done ?

OH - and have you had the Cat checked out ? many people have found this to be the problem even after dealers say it is OK ....

and I mean pysically take it off and look into it to see if it is blocked

Unfortunatly not. Was to pissed off!
Will make some more runs this weekend and save the graphs. But to get Mazda to do a compression check in South Africa is like trying to negotiate with a suicide bomber! Maybe I should remove the cat on the weekend before the dyno and check it out. The graph on the dyno was pretty flat. Didn't have the dips as seen on other graphs here. But the actuators did open each on its own as the revs picked up at WOT.

Not much call for that skill here in nz - where you live could be different

I just got back from the dyno. I thought I'd post my results to add to the knowledge base.

Year: 2007
Mileage: 20,000km
Power mods: MS Intake, Greddy catback

I see the top end is breaking up, like so many dynos I've seen here. Naturally I'm going to be pointed towards new coils and wires but it's disappointing that at my mileage they already need replacing.

Oh, and I was running on 17" steel wheels which are heavier than stock so I figure if I tried again it would be a little higher.

mazdamaniac turbo upgrade (GT3071R) on the greddy turbo kit @ 9 psi

This was the last tuned run that took place last week Monday with the boost controller not setup properly. Since then the boost controller was setup so imagine the jump in torque that takes place from 4-5k rpm on the chart below, taking place at 3-4k, and it holding steady at 230-240 lb/ft torque till around 7.5k rpm. and all the bumps evened out.

To compare, here's my best greddy turbo dyno: https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=166

Mysql: any reason you shot for 11:1 AFR? I don't really know what standard Turbo AFRs should be and would be interested to hear the reasoning behind picking that number.

10.8 was the target number, but it changes as the temp changes (int-x)

Ah. So was that to make sure that you don't get too lean at low intake temps?

Thanks for eclipsing my dyno with your majestic dyno.

Question for the people... Today on the dyno I pulled the ABS/DSC fuse and I thought I had understood that pulling it would kill the car's ability to sense speed, but the speedometer still worked. I read here a while back that our cars don't have an independent speed sensor, they just use the ABS. Was this poster wrong?

no - speedo works off sensors on the rear wheel hubs .

11:1 is the rich end of the best torque range.
Nice and safe.
I actually found no additional power shooting for anything leaner (i tried all the way up to 12.2:1 on my car above 6500 RPM), so 11:1 is cheap insurance.
10.8:1 is where I figured the safe range would be on the Int-X since it is a little silly about fuel delivery when the density changes.

Pulling the TCS/DSC fuse doesn't disable the wheel sensors - it just turns off the control in the ABS HU so that the system can't interfere with the wheel rotation through the brakes.
We didn't bother on MySQL's car or mine for that matter. It doesn't need to be done on our cars for whatever reason.
