getting the 4.1 from a auto wreck seems like a cost effective solution ...

Does anyone know how much greater torque capacity the '09 trans has over the '04-'08 trans? If I decide to build a street Mod RX-8, I was thinking of going with that trans along with a 4.11 rear end.

How do you guys know the 09 tranny will mount properly, or work with our ECU?

Does the SC void the warranty on the cat? How long are your cats lasting w/SC? Ive spent hours reading on gutting the cat, race pipes, hi flo cats and simply replacing the cat. Holy crap, Batman! Each choice has a ton of pros/cons! My brain hurts!. My local Mazda dealer has gone under, so i"ll have to drive to B'ham,AL. for warranty work, but I,m afraid of what they'll say when they see the SC.

Take it off and check it out for yourself. If it's bad, give them a call and explain the situation to see if they'll repair it under warranty.

I don't think the ECU cares about it, but I'm not sure about the mounting. We're just assuming it's doable until someone actually does it.

it will fit but one of the good things about the 09 is that the ppf is on the right side.
for dragging I would not really bother with an 09--go with the 5 speed. Road racing go with the 09---know why?

Yes, I see the advantages that each have, but since I'm not building a drag car here (just a car that I occasionally drag race), and this is my daily driver, I'd prefer the 6 speed

My friend and I are building a sequential gear box for his Exige and after that the 8,,, ohh and AP Tuning just happens to be up the road, yup the only place in the country where you can get hardened gears, our design is very simular to Ikeya's ....
His exige will be ready around June-July then he's going to a paddle driven do-cut, and then mine after that ,,,
Once we're finished we might even mass produce.....

Question

From working with the spindles on the Gt car I learned a little bit about hardining. In that aplication we rested the part in sand and hit it with oxy till it was bright red then barried it in sand to let it cool. Would the same method work in the case of hardining the tranny gears?????

That's very true. In my specific case, if I build a Street Mod car the SCCA rules state I need to use the same number of gears as the original trans. So it must be a 6spd.

Agreed. The bellhousing will be the same and as it's manual trans there'll be no TCU to deal with.

I think RX-7 gearbox will improve quarter mile times and give us a little more low end torqe. but not sure if its a drop in replacement.
