It's time for shadys turbo thread...

***Update#1*** I have done more custom crap then I was originality planning on, there isn't much left over from the greddy kit minus the piping. It took several days of machining and fitting but everything is bolted up now, I will update this post once I have confirmed the kit is functional and producing power. Kane gets here in a few days tuning will commence then its off to the dyno assuming i have no boost leaks and everything is 100%

***Update#2*** The turbo is working! I am running a custom tune that I copied from 9K. So far so good, I need to do a proper tune but I don't see this engine lasting much longer. I have boost at 10 PSI and the car still pulls pretty hard. The engine itself was rebuilt by me almost 3 years ago using questionable housings.

Hi all,

I'll list some of the major upgrades I have completed and where I am currently at. Depending on funds we will see where I am going with this build. Either way its been a long time coming.

Also I found t618z gaskets on Greddy site, not sure if this is common knowledge but I figured I'd link them since it took me a few months to find them.
http://www.shopgreddy.com/turbocharg...cessories.html

Last dyno was 218 whp.

Current mods

Rebuilt/street ported engine

Injectors were cleaned balanced and flow tested

Yukon Ignition kit

Blown RP supercat,

HKS hi power

ACT prolite flywheel with HD street clutch.

Mazmart t-stat

A bunch of other mods that I'm pretty sure added no power....

Turbo has just been dissembled, I am either going to rebuild it as is or purchase a water/oil cooled chra.

Need an opinion on this part
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turbo-Cartri...item2a14450b88

Rebuilding these things is painfully easy, making sure it's still balanced after isn't to hard either.

I purchased an upgraded intercooler which is slightly larger than the greddy.

I was originally intending on going with BNR 60 trim rebuild, 1000cc injectors, etc etc. However I bought wheels and coilovers and money dried up faster than my first girlfriend. So that why I have the larger IC.

I have cleaned up the kit a bit took a wire wheel to the rust on the downpipe and manifold to prep them for ceramic coating.

Just picked up an aem cai!

Still to Purchase:

Samco couplers

T-bolt clamps

Boost controller

Tapped oil pan

Possibly blue injectors in p2 (depends on the turbo build)

Any other goodies I forgot, feel free to mention!!!

More updates to come in the following weeks, comments suggestions, support is appreciated!!!

It's about time My only suggestion on the CHRA is to verify the orientation, meaning make sure the water fittings will point out board while the oil feed still stays on top. Also, from what I read and from what my bosses brother (largest diesel turbo re builder in the DR) told me having the proper equipment to balance a turbocharger is key. Turbo balancing machines are expensive.

Luckily that assembly comes balanced, I think it will fit I'm just waiting for confirmation from Brettus.

Also I marked the compressor and made note of where everything was at, just in case. You know me I'm mr. DIY!

Judging from the pic it looks like it is orientated correctly. That's a pretty good deal honestly.

Yeap sure is!!

Oh I forgot to mention my wastegate actuator arm is bent so I was thinking of replacing and upgrading it.

Any ideas?

Hmm I remember reading about doing that. Doesn't Gregs have an HKS actuator on his?

Ok it looks like its a fit!

Question is should I upgrade the housing and compressor to a 20g and make a hybrid?

Or just leave it stock....

it's hard enough to buy fit - sort and tune a turbo 8 IMO so why even bother fitting a stock Greddy that is so undersized that it just blows hot air even at low boost .

best upgrade compressor wheels:

To4B H3 52 lbs/min
T04E 50 trim 47 lbs/min
To4E 54 trim 45 lbs/min
T04E 57 trim 49 lbs/min
T04E 60 Trim 50 lbs/min

Any of these will be a significant upgrade and work well with the Greddy kit as supplied . Don't even think about anything smaller .
And the 60-1 is too big to work to it's full potential with the as supplied kit .

I think Frosty288 had a 20g .

IMO the 20g is also too small with an max. output of around 41bs/min - if you are going to upgrade , get the best possible wheel size that you can that works with the Greddy . Even the ones I mentioned are actually a bit small for the engine but they are the best fit for the turbo and kit pipework .

Also : any wheel that requires an inlet bigger than 55mm will require modification to the inlet pipe. This is one reason the BNR guys with 60-1 (60mm inlet) wheels are not getting the power they should .

I think I figured it out...

Brettus can you tell me where you got your wheel from?

I found a company that will balance my turbo for $65.

Get with Scott. He had his turbo altered. Perhaps they can accommodate you with a bigger wheel

Shady - get the biggest wheel you can within that list . I would actually go for the T04B H3 (super H) given the chance .
