You are using 1 piece ceramics with 2nd hand housings?

Presuming your not changing housing from the 60k core, in my experience 1 piece ceramics didnt work out for me with a core that had 10,000kms on it that was fully lapped and treated.

Had major compression issues which required engine to be pulled back out.

Yep I sure am. The housings were inspected and showed no signs of wear or flaking or they would have been replaced. They are also getting wpc treated.

What were the specifics of your issues?

ceramic seals in used housings is generally considered as not being ideal regardless of how they may appear, they have 60k of iron seals scraping on them regardless, bad choice IMO

In my case, there was a .67mm lower drop on the very edge of housing due to just the natural wear pattern of a 2 piece OEM seals. Due to that gap compression was lost, and i saw 80s when cold, 70s when hot.

Remeber ceramic 1 piece is (should) be deadly straight and any even the most minute wear on the housing will cause issues with ceramics as the ceramics will never change shape to bed into the housing.

Just to let you know the full extent of the issues with 1 piece ceramics and housing, according to Xtreme Rotaries, even brand new housings on average only 2 out of 6 housings bought will be flat enough to accept 1 piece ceramic pieces. However ceramics do wear the housing until it is flat, but that depends on the imperfections on the housing and can take 500km, 2,500km, 25,000kms.

Also as a side note, rx8 cranking speed is lower then rx7s therefore where rx7 can overcome minor compression issues due to ceramics the rx8 can not.

Therefore it is ideal to use only brand housings with ceramics.

Remeber my housing only had 10,000kms on them and they still did not work, and they went under intensive lapping.
Issues i saw were very difficult hot starts, very low vacuum and idle problems.

When we went to a rx5 2 piece steel design 3mm, the car started on a single key flick hot or cold.

Regards
Jason

Just got this back direct from NRS.

. Hi Mike Hoss -05, Were the housings run with steel seals? Is there a trace mark where the wedge runs? If they are parallel should be no reason you cant use them. Thanks,

0.67mm is a huge amount of wear after only 10,000 kms !

I may now be going a different route with FI.

Front page changed to reflect changes in plan, check it out. I will start a new picture thread in a few weeks to show the actual build without so much clutter and changes but lets keep discussion limited to this thread.

I do have something in mind Am still working out the final details with a company before they start the build. If they chose to disclose who they are I am fine with that but I will not put it out in the open till the work starts.

I need to start thinking about tuning though. Anyone have any good ideas?
