Drivability is fine. I guess I'm not really sure what your asking, but tuning is a must.

Fuel consumption... hard to say with it not all that tuned yet. I'm still getting 200+ miles per tank so it's not terrible.
Best to keep the wife-to-be happy. As they say - happy wife = happy life. Trust me, from 12 years experience, it is VERY true.

What I mean is, I do about 4-600 a week at a minimum and I would love to do it! I need a bit of economy though doing that many k's... In Aus, getting those kilometers would mean about $95 every 420-450 k's. I'm willing to put up with that for some fun and decent go...

Wish there was someone in Australia who could do it. I would want your idle, if you know what I mean. Through various choices when I was younger I need to have an auto. Would this bp work with an auto? Is there a template you have that some guys in Australia could use to work on my engine with? PM me if you want.

Should work fine on an auto as long as it was the 6 port, but I'm not sure you would be able to take full advantage of the port work. I avoid autos like the plague, so I duno. You should really talk to BDC as he did the actual port work, and maybe mazda maniac about tuning and potentials for auto 8's.

You could probably expect 350km per tank and maybe 80000km per engine build. It's hard to guess how long it will last since this is kind of the first one, but it's running beautifully for now. It would be a risk for sure in your situation. I work 10 min from home, so it may last me years.A tank of gas typically lasts me 1~1.5 weeks depending on how much I play with the car.

There are a few in Aus who have done it. Where are you located?

Any updates from anyone with a BP?

I can be added to the list officially. Brian Cane is building mine right now as we speak.

My O2 sensor is dying, something is wrong with the throwout bearing, SSV valve is ticking, and I need a neutral switch... So I'm a little delayed again right now, but we get paid tonight, so maybe I can finally get a few parts I need. I was feeding logs etc to Team to try and figure some things out, but I've been pretty busy and not able to work on it much. All I know is this thing has to be fixed and running correctly by deals gap rotary rally.

I've also been distracted with some carbon fiber parts I've been working on for the 8... Maybe I can post a teaser thread this weekend on that.

PM sent

You ever consider going to DGRR? I know it's a bit far for you, but it's a good time.

Sounds good OD, bring it just in case hoss doesn't have a spare minute between now and then. I'll try and remember to let you know if I get it in by then though.

Really hoping to have it tuned before then though. Cant really tune it much with the O2 out.

can't do anything unless all the components are operating correctly, otherwise we are wasting time

BUMP

well since this thread attracted so many of the more 'informed' members of this comunity i figured this would be the best place to post up these few questions i have

obviously its regarding bridgeporting ive been making up my own completly with the help of this site and settled on my '1st go' sizes the bridges ive been practicing are over the secondary ports of the 231 (main outter wall) they are 4.1mm wide and 1.1" tall the bridge at its shortist width is 4.9mm (nearly went for 4.8 with a 4.2 bridge but didnt wanna push it) they dont look unlike chris's bridge ports only a little shorter

now thats where im at, and i was happy with that! ive destroyed a housing practicing and now finsihed a nice neat port ... ive bought the car im going to put the new engine in and stripped the engine ready for cleaning yesterday, this is the engine i will be bridging ... easy (oh and ive ported a few renis now but this will be my first bridge)

but ive been thrown a bit of a curve ball, my aim (wether i achieve it this time or any other) is to eventually build a NA reni that runs somewhere between 230 and 240 bhp on the tarmac ... i hope you agree this should be possible? if not tho no matter, aim for the stars and all that. now the engine does have to meet another couple of criteria too, id like it to be able to go the distance say 30k+ miles and id like it to still be usable (obviously i dont mind a high idle and the wonderfull brap brap brap )

with that in mind, afetr all the reading on here ive done i decided it was only safe to bridge the secondary ports! bridging the aux ports works but not for long and bridging the primary and secondary is a no no because you risk loosing the apex seals corner piece into the bridge, right? oh and theres definatly not enough material to bridge the exhaust ports? can anyone confirm taht this is what they've/ we've found please

so why the long post? the subject has sprung up on the uks owners club (where im a more active member) who you might call THE uk's (certanatly one of only very very few 2 o3 maybe) leading authority's on all things rotary, Carl Hayward. He's not the most forth coming of vendors to say the least and in my experience at least can be one to give you a good cold shoulder or undermine your work or opinion seemingly for the sake of protecting that on which he has developed a bit of a monopoly! you have all experienced the same from various vendors on here ive seen

right now at the weekend i saw a car that had undergone bridgeporting at haywards rotary, Carl had offered no pictures or proof of the work being done, the car idled quite happily at the usualy 750 - 850 rpm solid with none of the fantastic characteristic associated with brigde ported rotarys, the brap brap brap if you like coming from the exhaust inlet overlap ... that i was under the impression came no matter what?

anyway that left me scratching my head and now having had carl speek out aparently:

And My own personal car is a full bridgeport with every port.

This has 2 piece seals and they work fine if you know what you are doing.
We are currently making 2 piece seals for the RX8 but they are still being tested at present, these would be largely for turbo engines when we have finished testing them.

Yes i am.

(i dont know if i broke any laws copying what he wrote ) .... anyway im left a little suspicious ... carls own car is VERY FAST (the 1 hes talking about) this is without a doubt so i guess you could say the proof is in the pudding ... but with no pictures or dyno results what are we sapposed to think?

and thats why im here, i want to be proven wrong, i want someone to tell me i can as mad as like bridging and not to worry about a thing , i want someone to tell me that as it happens i can bridge port all 3 inlets and both exhaust ports and build an engine that produces 30o whp ... but im not daft and i know, having read through all the bridgeporting threads on here, that what you guys have found that the above is not possible

so now id like you opinions on wether or not what carl 'has done' is possible - be it bridge porting all teh inlets or bridge porting a reni that has none of the bridge ported rotary characteristics

cheers in advance

Ben

The truth is no one has been able to show any results at all in the past. None have openly shared information or tuned or dynoed for some reason or another. Hell maybe it dose not work and we are all scratching for something not there. I'm certainly trying anyway and am excited to see and share the results.

I have a rx8 bridgeport. It was built late Dec and ive just finished running it in. I am currently waiting for Haltech to release there plugin ecu that works with the factory flybywire. The car is still using the factor ecu. I have a racing beat intake, 2inch headers merging into a 2.75 collector, from there its a single 3inch exh with a custom hand made muffler behind the rear bar with a 3.5inch inside exiting with dual 3.5in tips.

The car has alot more pick up every where. I also believe its a secondary bridgeport. the exhaust ports have been ported extensively too. Ben Hunt from Rotary motorsport built my motor. Very happy with it so far. Has done 2000kms (i basically replaced all parts in the motor). Starts first go and sounds very nice. I will update once its tuned.
