Bridge Port in a RENESIS is a fail.
did the bridgeport motor fail? looks like he is selling a perfectly running motor here

Didn't fail, I'm just having to deal with legal issues with my daughter's mother and her denying me time with my daughter, so that's a little more important than an engine...

If it doesn't sell then I'll put it in the car.

ASH8,
It's hard to take 1 example of a bridge port and say that all bridge ports fail. If mine doesn't last, so be it. It's the nature of the game. Phillip ported both the Primary and secondary ports, we didn't. Also, he talked about his fuel pump going out and disappeared. No dyno, and no tuning.

We'll see what happens if I get the chance to put mine in the car. Take less than a month to break in the car, tune, and dyno it. Like team said earlier in the forum, the dyno will tell all.

One example that was re-built a few times, by "rotary experts"...works on the RX-7..!!.

So you have not even Run the engine yet??, sorry, I have not read a number of pages for a while...family issues.

I guess time will tell then, IMO a time bomb.

I wouldn't be surprised if it blew up... but it's hard to tell with as few people that have even experimented with them.

This guy placed 5th overall last year running a BP Renesis RX8 in rally...
I haven't seen anything that hints that he's had motor problems.

Update for March 2011

Got my first live bridgeported Renesis up and running last night. Project car for a buddy of mine. Same porting scheme as Bryan Conn's and the other pictures I've posted prior. Also street ported the primaries, the 3rd/4th standard intake ports, and the exhaust ports in the scheme I developed a couple years ago.

The best part? The car runs on the stock ECU! It did struggle to idle and recover to idle from mid-RPM decel but we worked around that by removing the two vacuum caps on the middle intake runners of the LIM, splicing them together at a vacuum tee, and running a larger 3/8" hose from there up to pre-throttle body inlet. It slightly raised the idle to just over 1krpm

Will see how it does after the motor seats. I'd prefer to see it idle about 1200. If this static bypass trick doesn't work then I'll start with a small hole at the top center of the throttle butterfly and, after each idle/recover to idle test, successively increasing the size of that hole.

The bridgeports are on the 3rd and 4th ports only. The way it sounds is peculiar. I roughly measured the overlap this cut would induce in the chamber (about 30-35 degrees or so) and considered that it wouldn't be massively choppy at idle and lower RPM's like the older-style engines when BP'd but I was surprised to see that it didn't have much lope to it at all. It has some at idle but it's more erratic and almost sounds akin to an "untuned" engine. It doesn't really give off the impression that it's bridgeported to the untrained ear. I caught it but I had to listen to it a while. Pretty neat and very subtle.

Very very curious to see how it does at mid range and high RPM. My first guess is it will be a substantial gain especially at high RPM where the motor falls off (I bet it will keep up. My second guess is, since it's not such a radical departure from typical street porting, it will be a better alternative to it and will add a measured amount of engine performance without turning the car into a pseudo hot-rod.

If anybody's got a Renesis motor torn down that they'd like to give this a try on, I'm game and I'll cut you a break on porting labour.

Attached is a picture of this engine's front chamber w/ rotor during assembly. If I can figure out how to post a video to show you guys what it sounds like, I will.

With my street port the engine barely falls off at higher rpm. The same would hold true with a bridgeport.

It's cool to see someone take the time with this. I'm sure in the next couple years as more renesis failures happen over 100k we will see more aggressive porting and bridge porting. I certainly had more meat I could take off and could have polished the primary's a little more.

Very cool sir. Looking forward to the updates.

Don't know yet, man. The engine needs a lot of break in plus the owner may wind up selling it. Just don't know what's going to happen with the car yet. I really, really want to, though.

Motor seem to be running stable though Brian? Outside of idle of course...

Mine's got an assembly date in the next couple weeks... so mine will get on the dyno before deals gap if this guy's isn't.

Yep seems to be goin' just fine. If there were a problem, it would've evidenced itself immediately during the first turn. It fired right up, first try, and seems to run good!

I thought that the ECU would learn to overide this static bypass after several drive cycles ?
Also : i would imagine you would want to tune for best results anyway - which ,with a flash tuner, would give you the ability to adjust idle

Awesome! Thanks Brian... makes me a little less nervous.

I know this is what I'll be doing with mine anyway. I have an access port sitting there waiting on me.

It can only override an idle bypass in as much as how much it can forcibly shut the throttle. After that, whatever's bypassed and left over will still go around the throttle and into the engine. It's just a matter of finding out how much is needed. I'd like to one day experiment with popping holes in the throttle butterfly (small at first then bigger each try) to see where it ultimately goes.

Perhaps. This car, however, already has an extension harness and a Haltech Platinum Sprint RE (specific to 4 injector/4 ignition/ 2 rotor engine) ready for it in the event we can't get it to go on the stock computer the way we want.

Take the set screw out of the other gear and take it to the hardware store. Get a replacement with the same thread size and pitch. Bet you can do it for a buck and without much hassle.

Tried that actually... they don't stock 9mm screws, and only had a selection of 3 fine thread screws... I was pissed. I'll find one.

EDIT:
Mazdatrix has them in stock. Shipped it priority mail and it was still cheaper than the dealer. Should have the part Thursday so I should still be on track for a Saturday swap.
