yo rx820bna, whole point was to maintain the rx8 handling with 20b turbo. moving the entire front end to the center wasn't in our agenda. i would looove to do that if i can move a similar amount from the rear to the center but as everyone already knows, there really isn't much to move from our trunk, no? like you say it isn't rocket science

i always welcome lower cg. but the weight balance is something scott obviously aimed to keep.

Looks hot. Why not a custom UIM to go with the LIM? Looks like that's gonna not be so great for the flow...

The turbo should be placed around the passenger seat, the radiator should be where the driver sits on, and the 3-rotor should be right beside your right leg.

That looks kind of cool... The transmission is in the rear? Has this actually been done before?

Yes, obviously.

Basically the installer is left guessing and using in essence a thermometer and trial/error at the level of technology/sophistication that is being put into this swap.

Theory is great, but reality at this level is something else.

It still isn't that bad of a location, nothing an electric fan couldn't help to avoid starting to really change the plumbing, body/fenders and weight etc...to accomodate more direct airflow.

Basically a temperature probe at the intake manifold and looking at the number and saying "good enough" is about all I ever see happening on this conversion.

Stick---you have a build that worth the wait. Engine placement is the most critical of all and Scott has nailed that---hands down. This is going to be one Hell of a car man.
One hell of a car.
now the only thing you need to do is to have a raffle for a chance to drive her
by the way all the "other" things that are being talked about, are relevant but can be changed/modified later. A car like this will never be complete.

What I'm saying is that, it looks like effort has been done in moving the engine back behind the front axle, as well as, lowering the center of gravity by fabbing a LIM. However, those efforts has been negated by the location/weight of that turbo in front of the front axle.

But in the end, as what has been said here, its sticks' car and its its his dime (or organ) and if his happy with it, its his call.

so i was staring at scott's progress photos mindlessly for a few hours then began to think what's left?

from what i see:
wastegate + waste pipe to dp
bov mount
ignition system mount
water pump mount + water piping
insulate dp + exhaust mani
ems mount + tune
fuel rail, regulator, and pump
completing pipe weldings
oil coolers
radiator fan & shroud

i hear exhaust system is pretty much done.

anything else?

C5 Corvettes ....Only thing I didnt like about that car. You have to pull the entire driveline from the engine back including suspension to change the clutch. Supercharge it and you get really good at that job though....

Yo StickumWhereYaWanta

I'm not sure if anyone thought about this but here goes...

I realize that the hot air from the radiator is moving past the turbo and everyone is considering placing heat shields etc around the turbo. But why not reroute the problem? Why not tunnel the heat coming from the radiator out of the engine bay through a vented hood A LA LOTUS ELISE???????? Would this not help lower air temps over all? Maybe even do the same with the oil coolers. You could use two seperate tunnels for the coolers that combine with the main tunnel coming from the radiator that heads up to the hood and out.

Maybe you can create some sort of ducting that could channel cool air to the turbo while your at it?

Just a thought...BTW...AWSOME SETUP!!!
