Wow, wow, and wow. It sounds like you are building the car I wish I could.

I really must know though.. are you doing a tranny replacement or just hardening some of the parts? If replacing? Which one will you be going with? Drive shaft? I thought the CF drive shaft was perfectly fine for this kind of power.. or is this an automatic to manual conversion?

Details.. I'd love to hear details!!

while the car is being built - you need to do some DEs. I'd love to see vids of your car on the track, with a driver who knows how to roll.

oh and yes... im glad to see you all are doing it right.

surpringly, scott's price was more than reasonable especially if you consider all the extra goodies and scott's unsurpassed experience with the rx8's. i rather not state the price here because most members on this forum are vastly misinformed about the 20b install cost. we owe this particular thanks to rgonza

red, it'll be a new tranny, probably 6speed t56 with sequential style linkage. the stock carbon shaft probably won't be a good idea with a blown 20b.

I did a bit of reading about that tranny you're considering...

"This six-speed overdrive transmission was developed for adaptation to a wide range of vehicle requirements. Currently, the TREMEC T-56 is being used on the Dodge Viper, Chevy Corvette Z06, Ford SVT Mustang Cobra, Aston Martin DB7 Vantage and V12 Vanquish, and Holden Commodore and Monaro. "

It sounds like that would be the tranny to use - if it'll fit the engine and the car. But I guess they've done this before so no worries right? I'd like to see how they make it all fit together.

Sounds like it's going to be one heck of a seriously awesome setup.

well i am in tampa and i know scott, and well i know mantis very well... so when you come down you should stay for an evening... there will be a lot people wanting to see your car

i have to say though i don't fully agree with the styling of the 8 over the 7.... they are pretty sweet... and you should hop on flrx8club.net and take a look at some of our upcoming events... i am trying to get in contact gainseville to start a meet there... btw i am the one on there that you asked about the body kits...

hmmm new M3: 49k-56k
RX8: 25k-34k
difference: 15k-31k

So are we talking a loaded/base M3 and a new or used RX-8?

Did you have to find the 20B, or did Scott do that for you?

mork, i just dropped the car off & wrote some checks. scott's doing pretty much everything else.

mike, 20b NA would be cheaper, and 20b turbo would be more expensive. they both are probably within the range you wrote above.

i can tell you this: rebuilding 20b isn't cheap. some shops would just pop in a $4000 20b they buy off from their source, but scott's building the entire thing brand new from ground up with new housings, new lighter rotors, etc. etc. details of which i'm not at liberty to discuss. it's practically a brand new race engine now.

it would be interesting to know what scott will charge for 20b NA install. if the cost will be around 15k, i reckon many will upgrade to that option over the type 2 turbo they're currently offering.
