errr- my bad---i hit the 3 instead of the 4.
auto rear ratio is 4.3. Didnt mean to get you all excited........
Still the S2 trans will give you more strength and a little taller gear. It with the 4.7 rear knocks about 3-400 rpm off the final drive ratio Compared to the S1. And you will love the closer ratios in 3-4-5th MUCH better.
I dont know if it can handle 500hp.

Where is all the smoke coming from? Is it burning off something?

There's an O2 bung near the bottom of the DP that isn't plugged, plus who knows what v-bands I forgot to tighten.
Yeah, I can't wait either, been a looooong time already.

It does sound a little grumpy with the e-cutout open, the PCM was really trying to keep the motor at somewhat of an idle.

The intake porting on the primaries was your typical street port I guess, I tried to open the port as much as possible and then radiused the port pretty good.
I ported the aux ports rather large, as far as I could go and again radiused those as well, I'm not running the sleeves. I didn't touch the secondaries at all.

The exhaust ports were another story, I removed the exhaust inserts on the front and rear housings (port matched/radiused the exhaust manifold) and then ported as much as possible to where there almost wasn't a "cliff" or edge anymore, needless to say I ported into the water jacket. I filled the almost 1/2" wide hole with stainless wire and then filled with JB Weld, then I had my welder have at it to fill the rest with some high nickel content rod to seal it tight. I then ported down the excess weld and polished it. Quite a lengthy and involved process I must say.

Has anyone run it with the exhaust inserts gone?

I thought that they were there to handle the heat??

Rx-7 engines have them, and you can run without them. It will be interesting to see what happens. I had no idea you weren't running the aux port sleeves...

I agree, but it's not technically in the exhaust port, it's in the actual water jacket where it's surrounded by coolant. The weld itself is what's exposed to the exhaust gases.

Btw - This is taken from SAE Paper 2004-01-1790 about the exhaust inserts:

4.2. Retaining Heat of the Exhaust Gas
In order to retain heat of the exhaust gas from the
combustion chamber to the catalyst, two measures were
taken: The exhaust port has a stainless thin-walled
insert (made of heat resisting stainless alloy) and the
exhaust manifold has two layers of air layer for heat
insulation and small volume thin-wall inner tube. This
allows for the retention of exhaust gas heat from
combustion chamber to the catalyst. Because of the
heat retention, gas temperature at a catalyst upstream
could increase about 140 degree C in the USA LA-4
mode drive, improving catalyst’s conversion capability.
Fig. 24 shows structure of the exhaust port insert and
exhaust manifold.

Yeah, the primaries and aux ports are open full-time, but the secondaries are closed until I tell them to open.

Did you fill in the end of the AUX runner with JB weld to get the flow going in the right direction?

? If they are like RX-7 engines...they flowed better with the sleeves in them and ported than they did with them out.

That's a big intake porting. Too big actually.

The risk of losing a seal in there is high and huge intake ports coupled with a turbo don't really like tiny exhaust ports.
I'm sure your car will produce a nice amount of power but i don't know what kind of curve you'll see.
It's still an amazing build though!

No, but now that you mention it, doesn't sound like a bad idea to do.
I did port so far up that there's no overhang where the flow would be impeded, it obviously still has the wall at the end though, I'm not worried about it too much. It flows nicely into the chamber, to me at least.

C'mon BSE, too big? nahhh. It's perfect for some nice top-end results.
None of the seals, or especially seal tips/edges come close enough to the port for me to be worried about. And yes, you're right, the exhaust port size is my main concern/issue. If this setup doesn't net me good results, I'll be going with a setup like Mazdatrix with the peripheral rotor housing + side port side housings and custom manifold...
