Mazdaedit
I am wanting to add a turbo do I need to purchase an after market ECU or is the ME the only thing I will need? Or will I need to buy a new PCM or MAF MAP sensor's or is all this in a turbo form I'm really not looking at getting a kit there crazy over priced for like a Greddy and what not. I will just fab my own hard ware. Any and all help would be awesome.
Also I have an 04 RX8 it has just over 72k on it I bought it about a month ago I live in Northern IL
It's pretty bone stock currently I didn't know what I was getting in to when I purchased it. If it ever
gets above freezing I'm going to change plugs and wires and add a drop in K&N. Um ok I'm done with
My noob rant.

Your best bet is to use the OEM ECU, and to use either MazdaEdit or a Cobb AccessPort to enable you to change the flash's tune.
However, if you think that the Greddy kit is overpriced then you have a hard lesson ahead of you. The kit price is only a fraction of the total cost. We recommend that anyone turbocharging their RX-8 should start with $10,000 in the bank as a budget. Trying to do it cheaper IS possible, but not likely. It almost always requires a $5,000+ engine build for one. People that think it doesn't require an engine rebuild before installing their kit, blow their engine in short order and then guess what, they need a rebuild anyway. This engine doesn't take kindly to turbocharging AT ALL, and every single last piece of hardware, electrical, and software has to be perfectly right, and it has to be right the very first time. The smallest flaw can and will destroy your engine. If you can't accept that, then it's going to be a really painful learning process for you.

I have laptops up the @$$ I rebuild them what is all involved with the engine rebuild there isn't much there is there. I would assume apex seals bearings?? I have the resensis engine also does anyone have a tune for stock rx8 on the ME. So theres no bolt on turbo fix grrr.. I have always done my own maintenance for my vehicles not to much performance besides bolt on's.
So if you were me and only have maybe 2k for now what would you do?
ME tune?
Flywheel?
Mid pipe?
Cold air or just do a drop in.
Also is there any experts or RX8 clubs in the Rockford Chicago land area?
Sorry for my randomness I have looked in a lot of the post but most of the time its a see of chat and not much supported facts its hard to find the good stuff. Thats why I'm getting off topic a bit.

MazdaEdit can pay off in a number of areas, not even including power. For example being able to turn off emissions CELs, change the fan trigger temps, and increase the OMP injection rates.
A lightweight flywheel is a driving behavior change, so a personal preference item.
A midpipe is a good option, the only cheap option for a power increase since the cat is naturally restrictive.
If you get an intake, go with AEM, Mazdaspeed, or Racing Beat. Everything else is inferior to stock and a waste of money.
A "drop in" I assume is the filter, in which case don't. The stock filter flows enough air for the 450hp 3-rotor Grand-Am RX-8s, it isn't a restriction at all and is really good at filtering. A K&N filter just increase the chance of stuff getting in the engine. Race teams were losing engines on the K&N filter due to sand damage until they went back to OEM.
Have you read through the https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...rx-8-a-233937/ ? It gives you a lot of the starting basics.

2k... coils, decat and a tune, plus a better oil pressure regulator.
That's if the engine isn't shot. If the engine's gone i'd invest anything from 5k to 8k to do a rebuild depending on my goals.
Now please quit polluting this thread.

has anyone else found out that there is a $250 yearly "support" subscription fee with MazdaEdit pro?
I went to use it yesterday and it said my key had expired! so, as it stands, I cant use the software (it wont open) until I pay another $250 or commit to using it unsupported!

I guess it means no updates and help from epifan ?
I currently have version 3.3.8.925, im pretty sure its the latest one. it would suck to lose future updates, but I wasn't even aware I had support from epifan lol
looking at my emails from him, once I got my reg keys etc, I only ever had software update emails. looks like ill have to delay my .uk forum membership and scrape the $250 together for this

The graphs mean nothing to me, the only results I care to see are from a 1/4 strip or standing mile. When I see video of you running 12's in the 1/4 then I will believe the graphs.

Fair comment . Admittedly VD can be manipulated to get any result you want and actually getting a decent log is a trick in itself . But still a useful tool (and a good approximation) once you figure all that out .
