Just to reiterate to get a dwell number for access port take the time in ms and multiply by 256. I checked it with a scope today. Don't use the MM multiply the whole table method unless you like frying coils.

It didn't fry coils, it only failed to provide proper dwell for a large part of the map

I am purchaseing BHR coils. My supercharged car was tuned on factory coils without any increase in dwell settings.

I assume I should be able to do a direct swap and run the car without any issues?

I will look at getting a new tune done in the near future.

Not a good choice...coils need about 5ms if dwelll...much more than stock. You might get away with it NA...but boosted is a BAD idea

Ok, thanks for the heads up I will wait to install when the tuner is ready. I should be able to install and drive it gently to the tuner?

So my instructions to the tuner is to increase the dwell times to 5ms. Can the tuner use the dwell table posted on page 9 by shelldude or do I have to specify specific targets for the various rev ranges?

There was a map that Team did that seems to work well.......it makes it correct across the whole range unlike some of the other ones out there...

Sounds good enough for me unless the tuner has other ideas.

Thanks for your help. Is there information somewhere on the dwell settings on the standard BHR kit. I have emailed Charles for this information. I assume the tuners may need the base settings?

it would be more accurate to say that most of them know nothing more than what they were told

direct your tuner to post 108 in this thread and to download the attached spreadsheet and use it per that post

watch this thread, in particular the RH area of the scope to view output relative to the different dwell settings as he changes them. From 5000 up the OE dwell setting is below 3.0 mS. What you don't have is the OE coil output relative to dwell for comparison. If you did then you'd understand why I'm recommending not to do it that way.

Thanks Team, I found that post downloaded the spreadsheet and sent it off to the tuners.

I assume they will be able to access the required table using the HKS Fcon software and adjust accordingly.

Sorry for bringing this dwell discussion up again, but Iam still confused
I have LS2 D514a coils, until now I have used a overall multiplier of 1.666 to get from 3ms dwell to 5ms dwell.
Should I be worried about the current draw when using overall 1.666 mulitplier with these coils?
Is this table above for D585 okey to use with LS2 D514a coils or should I just keep my table as it is.

Last edited by al3k87; 07-17-2014 at 07:33 AM. Reason: corrected multiplier value

If you use the table for the 585 coils, you will smell the 514 coils frying.....
The 514 coils seem to work with the stock dwell.

Thanks for the reply Rote8. They do seem to work okay with stock dwell settings, but Im really wanting to optimise their performance if I can. Iv asked RaceRoots what they recommend but haven't heard anything back.

I have no idea what burning coils smell like - but I can imagine I wont like it! Does anyone have the base dwell figure for the D514 coils?

Hi all,

I'm interested in buying the SakeBomb kit with the IGN1A/AEM coils.

As I far as I understood, they have a base dwell of 3ms. In this thread it says that stock are 3ms too and further it says they are 3,5ms. i didn't find the info elsewhere.

So my question is simple, do I have to adjust my dwell table if I go from OEM coils to those coils?

Excuse me if my english is not perfect, I'm French

Oh lala! Don't think anyone here has experimented with those so your best bet is to ask the supplier .
