Exactly the point I was making also - just reinforcing that those numbers are very believable .

I see nobody wants to address this concern of mine.. I think i'll wait until more dynos are posted before purchasing this product. I have no doubt that it will make horsepower, I just think that if your expecting to see 10+ horsepower gains below 5,000, you may be disappointed.

Where this product will really shine I believe is with F/I applications.

We optimize ignition advance on our Stage1 calibrations and Economy Mode calibrations as well. We will have the ability modify calibrations in order to take advantage of higher octane fuels, but the execution is different on N/A engines since we are not dealing with adjustable cylinder pressure, through boost and camshaft phasing changes. We may make calibrations for the higher octane fuels, but it all depends on how the market responds and if it will actually make a difference in reliable power output.

Are you able to monitor any of the following; oil temps, oil pressure, A/F, and Fuel pressure? Also are you only able to monitor via the accessport or can you plug into laptop as well?
We will be updating our website with additional educational and marketing material for the next few weeks, so please feel free to visit our website and the RX-8 sections on our forums.

The AccessPORT is an ECU Reflashing device that contains custom tuned calibrations and calibrations for various optional functions (Anti-Theft Mode, Valet Mode, etc.). We have also programmed additional functionality into the device such as a data monitoring screen, performance evaluation, MIL review, MIL reset, and more. This device will most likely retail for $695. We will most likely offer two tuning packages, AccessTUNER Pro that will allow Professional Tuning Facilities to tune all RX-8s that have an AccessPORT, and AccessTUNER Race so end users can develop custom calibrations to be reflashed to their vehicle using their AccessPORT. This is intended for those that may want a custom calibration for a race application. This version of software will only work on their specific vehicle. Both of these software packages can pull in Lambda information from external WBO2 sensors, such as the PLX M-300USB, R-300, R500, MoTeC PLM, Innovate LM-1, LC-1, and more. The prices of these two packages will be released very soon. Please allow us some additional time to get our web site updated, I will be sure to let you know of these updates as they come out.

huzer21, how has the car been performing for you? Do you have any additional impressions from continued driving?

Take care,
Christian.

I see that the redline was raised to 9300 on the Stage 1 NA map, but I haven't seen a dyno that even goes to 9000 yet. Do you guys think it will be worth even revving to 9300 or will we be better off shifting, even with the Cobb tune?

This is something that we need to make sure that you all understand. We spend literally months testing with our RX-8 and found that we had absolutely no reason to make an aftermarket intake for that vehicle. All of our engineers were of the same opinion that we could not make any improvements over the stock air box...none. No weight savings, no cost saving, very little if any performance gains; the stock RX-8 airbox is an engineering masterpiece that will promote laminar airflow across the MAF sensor, and should not be replaced if at all possible. With that said, please understand that ALL of our calibrations will be based of using the stock intake system. Running ANY aftermarket intake system has the ability to compromise the performance of our calibration and possibly compromise the engine. I am happy to go into greater details, feel free to ask any questions you may have. For our calibrations we will most likely just be supporting the stock intake system since it performs so well. We will most likely leave it up to other AccessTUNER Professional facilities to develop calibrations for their hardware. Although, please understand that the stock intake system works very well and I do not see any reason to replace it.

I am not trying to disrespect any intake manufacturers, I just want people to understand that an intake system is absolutely not necessary for the RX-8.

Take care,
Christian.
If this was true..... Then why does Mazda off the MS intake?

Plus we have seen improvements with the RB intake.

Sure Cris is correct that there isn't much gain, but 23HP over the mid range and 8 on the top end is definately worth it.

+20HP would definetly get me to purchase this. I'll just run a midpipe to avoid cat damage, then when it's emission testing time Ill switch to the cat friendly map or back to stock and reinstall my cat for testing.

why did they offer a MS exhaust that did nothing?

Don't get me wrong, I have cat-back on my 8...

We backed up gains between my modified NA RX-8 and their unmodified RX-8, both 2005 models

I can state that the numbers are not BS

again, my best was 222 rwhp and 144 rwft/lb running low-mid 13 AFRs on their Mustang dyno out at Miller Motorsport Park

nothing disappointing about that

while my custom mods did net some engine output increase over OE parts, the primary focus was always weight reduction

the disappointment will only be that the typical aftermarket engine performance parts won't gain you that much over the factory parts

WRT why Mazda would sell an exhaust system that doesn't offer much weight savings or performance gain, it's because people will buy them for the Mazdaspeed name only and there's enough profit to be made to justify the effort. What do you really get when you buy a Shinka model? It's all about marketing and making money.

Any increase in power will net a reduced CAT life.

So it sounds like I should make modding ladder go in this direction:
Stock Box mod- done.
AP
Burn Cat out- disconnec AP, get MNA to warranty me a new one
uninstall brand new stock cat keep for later date
buy high flow cat
reinstall AP
buy mazsport ignition solution since I'll need coils by then
and my warranty should be out not much after that.

It seems like a highflow Air filter, take out one screen, the AP, RP CAT, and ignition solution is 210+ WHP for under $2k installed, smog legal that is completely warrantable. Is it really that simple almost overnight?

Why the hell are you intentionally costing mazda the cost of a new cat for no reason? Also the high flow cats have a remarkable failure rate, and this is on stock setups. Going with a hotter setup that stock will result with even higher chance of failure.

If you go this route, I suggest not doing any cat at all.

Rather than buying a hi flow cat, you should just get a muffled midpipe and save the oem cat for another time that you may need it.

It even picks up 15 - 20 mid range hp at 5300 rpm when the afr lines cross.. This guy had to of had a completely different car to begin with in order to achieve those type of numbers...

I can see those types of gains in the upper band because his afr is below 11 at times, but what about mid and low?

Anyone else notice that or am I off?
This concern... I dont see how RCW on the cobbforum picked up so much hp with the afr readings almost being identical in the lower band...

I was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me.

I was comparing the curve that Huzer posted up vs. the huge gains posted on the cobbforums by RCW.

Yeh - this dyno is BS - absolutely no-one else has had gains below 5000 by just altering AFRs .

suddenly we have a bunch of experts that have no experience with the product, typical ....

Oh and while you are at it - explain why huzer21's dyno is nothing like the one above ....

still does not explain Huzer21's dyno which is more in line with what we have come to expect . When we get a members dyno (not Cobbs one) that shows the same gains under 5000rpm - then we will believe it .
Remind you of a similar argument in the FI dyno thread MM ?

By the way this is in no way a put down of the AP - I think it's great & I want one . Just that I don't believe the gains below 5k they are advertising .
