RX8 hand held Flash tuner?
OK. Fair enough.
The most important things would be direct fuel and timing control in full 3-D and the time/load overlays. This would mean all six injectors, all four coils and the split table.
Also, in connection with this, would be control over A/F targets and the WBO2S with control over the open/closed-loop entry points. Without that, any of the timing and fuel changes would just throw CELs.
Speed limiting and FAN control would be at the bottom of the list.
Next, I would go for control of the NBO2S, DBW throttle and S-DAIS followed by CAN priorities (AUX devices like TPMS, EPS and ABS/TCS) and then PCM aux stuff like fans, A/C, etc.

I have an Interceptor already to handle my fuel and timing, but If it was $500 or less I would buy it just to turn off my CEL's for my race pipe and AFR.
I'm curious how this would be used by the FI folks to tune with if they're running over a few psi? I believe the stock MAF runs out of headroom pretty quickly.

Yeah it does, but it is soft. Somewhere in the 145 MPH range. Guys that pass that on a dyno do so because the front wheels aren't moving. No speed measurement, no limit!

One reason this forum can be septical (i like cautious better) is because this item (the ecu) has been the block of many a wish. We have heard promise's but after this car has been out more than 3 yrs now no one has delivered( except the interceptor and it is still being tested for na). The owners of an 8 are starving for more power without FI. That means they COULD be taken advantage off. Not that you intend that - just an anology for lodgical summation.
A lot of knowledge and experience is here. There will always be questions and doubts. Be patient.
If your business is interested then what a couple of people on an internet forum has to say should not make any differance in your decision. If you are for real(and you seem so) then get on with it-- it will be easy to see the sincerity and then the forum grp will be behind you 110%

My advice would be to learn from past vendors mistakes at this site.
1) Come away with the knowledge the market exists.
2) Disappear from the boards and work on the project until it is done and then reappear with the finished project...
otherwise, you will be hounded constantly to the point of frustration, the hype will build to the point that no product you could ever produce would meet the hype, and given the nature of this board as something similar to a heard (?) of lemmings one person will be slightly disappointed as it didn't live up to the hype and your product will be labled as not worthy and the lemmings will run away - even if it does work really well.
If you instead randomly show up again one day and be like "hey for $X00 you can get 15-20 rwhp and here is the proof"... and then spend some time to get people to test it the lemmings will stampede you (in a good way).
I guess also what we are saying is don't try an BS us either. If you are honest with us about what the product will do you will get along great. **** us off with BS....and we will know...and you will be treated accordingly...there is a lot of talent on this site to filter out the wheat from the chaff

Its features should net additional power gains, raised limiters, allowing other modifications to function correctly (supercharger, nos, larger injectors, etc..).
Just like the Emanage, it's a tool, not a ready built solution. But in this case it's a tool with a greater potential for performance success as it deals with the core engine management parameters.
Rather, he's offering something for US to tune the car, WE are going to provide the extra HP or whatever from our OWN tuning efforts. And the sooner we get started, the sooner we'll all see results. IMHO, don't delay the intorduction - let us all get started
He'll have plenty of time to improve it..once we know it is TRULY possible and we flood the $$ his way for further development. The 1st device he puts out that works, if only a little...will prove his point.

kevin- do you really think you will need to flash your PCM a couple hundred times? what for?
fastsvt- what would supply the power for your device- my understanding is that when the pcm is flashed by the dealership the battery is put on a trickle charge to keep the power up. would your device also need this?
we need full control over fuel and timing as mentioned by Mazdamaniac as well as someway to change the MAF "table" so we dont run out of room on the stock MAF during FI applications. thats what we need first. Shift points for the ATs are not handled in the PCM they are in the TCM. fixes for different rear ratios and tire sizes would be down the list but needed
The MAF runs out at 5v which is about 9 PSI of boost at an acceptable flow. There is no way to table out beyond this.
No matter, though. You want to be running in open-loop out there and TP over load will be suffcient.
Anything past that, you will need a stand-alone or piggy-back soultion anyway since you will need MAP for that.
I suppose you could re-reference the entire MAF table down a percentage and readjust that for a new meter.

well the tune should be basically done by the vendor then just tweaked for you. 2-3 times at most. thats if there is the option of tunign yourself. there might be a package difference- straight flashable tune x dollars , software allowing you to make your own maps x more dollars

If you can sell this in the $500 dollar range and show reasonable, reproducable results I'd be all over it (hell, I'd settle for an initial 5-10 hp gain and control of various limiters and the like, with a hope of more to come). Sign me up pending results.

dannobre: Although it could be perceived by some, we will NEVER b.s. anyone. We've been involved in business long enough to know that you can't b.s. your way and be a successful company. To keep ourselves out of trouble (or dissapointing people), perhaps I shouldn't provide as much information "along the way" until development & testing is done.
