Bummer, Mike - sorry to hear this. Is Mazda giving you any type of assistance with the replacement engine, or are you completely on your own since it's out of warranty?

No assistance whatsoever. I called corporate Mazda and complained and still was not able to get some sort of discount on parts...labor..nothing.

I'm having Motion Lab do the install instead of Mazda.

Sorry to hear that, all last year I had the same problem. My friend who bought the car got it covered under warrenty.

Good luck

Hey everyone. My name is John and I am new here. I just picked up a bone stock Rx8 so I just wanted to post up in here since I will most likely be in this part of the forum the most. I have been autoxing and doing HPDE for the past 8 years. I ran a Honda del sol in STS and did pretty well in it. The new beast will for sure being seeing track time, so the research begins.

The biggest question I have right now is what is the best wheel and tire setup on this chassis? 17 or 18? Also is it best to run staggered or the same width? I was planning same width and tuning it with suspension and sways.

here is my old sol.

And the new one... not much to look at yet.

Welcome to the club!

Go with a 17x9 all round with a 255/40/17. Cheaper and lighter than 18's.

but 17" is not not necessarily faster and 18" could be faster, or at least I'm still not convinced otherwise yet

same for 245 vs 255 vs 265 tire sizes

by and large most of the RX8s had problems in one form or another. I know Sparky had some various issues too. I'm knocking on wood because engine/powers issues are the least of my woes. For autox I'd rather be down some on power than be dealing with handling inconsistencies.

Same thing here...whole lot of nothing even though I'm only at 55k miles and have bought a bunch of Mazdas. I'm doing the decarbon cleaning this weekend and then a track day next weekend, then another compression test to see if the numbers have come back up.

I blame the year I took off of autoX and slogged through commuting traffic every day.

It gives me a convenient excuse for how shitty I drove this year..."hey, I was down 30hp!"

haha ok, so the Jury is still out on that one. Hopefully I will get the testing under way here soon. Although I do want to drive a few events with it bone stock.

Thanks for the input.

Oh ya my local SCCA region is San Diego, if any of you are in that area.

I'm registered for the San Diego Championship Tour event. SD is one of my favorite cities. It's worth the tow from TX just to visit.

Ran the new ZII's yesterday in about 35 degree weather. The lot was wet with some standing water, sleet, snow, and rain all day. The lot had also been freshly sealed last year so it is very smooth. Let's just say the Toyo's were much better than the ZII's yesterday.

you have to scrub those in with several heat cycles before they find their groove

Jon Lugod said something like 40 runs until they come in to their own. YMMV.

I'd bet the temperature and environment had a lot to do with the result. I remember last season in low 40 degree weather the ZI SS not working so well.

Registration open for NJ Pro. Best lot in the north east. Even though its asphalt, very similar car setup as Lincoln with slightly better grip when on street tires.

Only 3 in STX so far. Where is everyone? I can't make it, but my co-driver will be there in my car.
