Of course they are going to use it.

My point was (and still is ) that I don't think we will see that engine on the street very soon (that is to say, I wouldn't hope to find this engine in the restyled Rx-8).

Eventually people will realize that the engine depicted is a 4 port. Whether that's what we'll get in production is another question.

I think it is a 6 port. There is one intake port for each rotor in the center plate and then two intake ports for each rotor on the end plates. You can only see one intake port on the cutaway view because the endplate where the other 2 are has been removed.

Here's what I mean. The red circles encompass the intake runners for the 3 ports on the rear rotor.

How do you figure Paul? I see 6 ports. Even the cutaway view on the computer screen shows a 6 port and those plates are clearly the new aluminum units.

So are you guys saying that it's a 6 port from the upper intake manifold standpoint to the side housings, but those 2 ports feed into a single large port?

IE 2 intake runners -> 2 intake ports on the external side housing -> 1 intake port on the internal side housing?
Cuz that's what it looks like to me. I don't see the "aux port" on the interior of the housing.

Seriously, this is what I'm talking about.

EDIT: Oh duh. i think i get it now. What that picture shows is the center plate and front rotor housing. The other port would be on the front plate.

If you are talking about what you see on the rotor housing face, that's the reflection of the rotor dish. That's the intermediate housing anyways. There has always only been 1 port there.

I keep saying rotor dish reflection. It's not. It's the reflection of the port.

the ports on this thing look beautiful compared to the renesis.
i wish we could drop a fiber optic camera down them to see how they look inside.

They look about the same to me. Maybe just bigger. I think the Renesis ports are crap so what I can see from the pictures doesn't make me all that happy. I hate that siamesed exhaust port. I can only hope at the very least that the water jacket doesn't run in the exact same places around the ports that the current engine's do. Something tells me they do though. If that's the case, it is extremely hard to modify.

Mazda debuts new-gen Rotary in Taiki show car

The 16X may show up in a special version of the current RX-8, or Mazda may hold off until a new RX-8 bows in 2011.
Hmm... maybe a Mazdaspeed RX8 with the 16X in 2009 or 10.

I wonder why the exhaust ports were packaged as rectangles? It seems like the flow would be better if they were full circles like the intake runners. Especially since they will be flowing into circular exhaust pipes. I would think that would be better for cooling as well since there would be more homogeneous heat transfer and wall temperatures.

Oh my children , and I can get away with saying that because I'm getting up there.
I thought I'd show you some 4 port vs 6 port pics, lest you think I've totally lost it.

Paul.
