Had 4 eggs for breakfast

well, i woke up this morning to find my one year old 8, still zaino'd and ding free mind you, covered in egg goo, covering at least 3/4 of the drivers side of the car. there were at least 4 eggs that were thrown at it. I saw shells on the road, but didn't see any other cars hit. The yolk was completely caked in to the car like candle wax, so I instantly sped to the nearest gas station- luckily they have a high pressure hose and got most of it off, but revealed swirly impact egg marks, with about 4-5 small paint chippage dings each. Im furious but can't do anything but vent to my fellow 8 owners.

this is the second time my 8 has been egged in a month. previous was at my girlfriends house (i live in Arlington VA) only 2 or 3 miles away, that time it hit my wheel and didn't do much damage.

so the question is, is the 8 a love it or hate it car? (like how some people love the pt cruiser, and some people hate it). I hope not. i feel like its clearly been singled out both times. granted its always clean and ding free, but this is crazy.

No offense, but, do you drive like an *** around the neighborhood? Are you fairly young?

Reason for question 1 is you may have pissed someone off in the neighborhood and they know where you live. Reason for question 2 is that young people may inspire jealousy in other young people that are just immature enough to throw eggs at your car.

You could purchase either a car cover (meh) or a video camera and set up surveillance (my fav). I had video surveillance setup on my Honda with halogen floodlights (motion activated) it made it really easy to review the tapes for who I was looking for (even managed to catch my buddy getting a "no county sticker" ticket at 3am one night).

no offense taken, but no, I don't drive like an ***-have never even gotten a speeding ticket in my life. I am 30 and take good care of the 8, it has no mods other than tint and corners, and live in a condo development....

Condos with reserved parking?

Are there teenagers in the immediate area?

First guess is teens doing stupid ****. Second guess is an immature adult that you somehow wronged (at least in their mind). Third guess would be an angered ex (prone to irrational behavior).

I'm currently stuck in an apartment complex and am constantly worried about my car...luckily there is also a nice shiny 350 a few spaces away, and a new C6, and occasionally a new Maybach that parks in the same area.

I am hoping its just bad luck-, and not the 8 becoming a fun target to vandalize-i don't even 'double park' or act 'snobby' with parking it or anything, i just keep it clean. if it happens again, i'll assume its a target I guess, and take more steps. there's an s2K and an rsx in the same complex, parking not reserved, but they had no eggs near them.

I'm sorry to hear that. I think it's a jealousy thing. I was driving to a friend's house the other day when some punk kid in a dirty white fiero actually slowed down and leaned out the window to stick his tongue out at me and make that slobber noise (what do you call that anyway) as he drove by. I was kind of pissed, because I never saw this kid before, and can only imagine that he did it because of the shiney red car I was driving.

See I should be able to shoot people that do that to my car. If they want to act stupid then they deserve it.

Interesting...I was driving my green through a nearby subdivision yesterday and some guy in a Cherokee (coming towards me) actually leaned out his driver side window and acted like he spit at me......I'm certain that this is what he 'imitated'. Can't figure/understand what causes some people to do the things they do....my guess is that it is mostly jealousy.

My dear Watson, I have a different theory:

I think this is the work of someone you know or someon your girlfriend dated in the past...

Maybe still a bit upset about you dating her?

Just seems odd that in such a short amount of time, you could be the victim of TWO drive by eggings.

Wow, that is so weird, all of it. I just get stares, no eggs, no spitting, not even a key scratch or anything...well, the occasional bird poops on it but they poop on anything.

lol, I know, I can' timagine it is an ex, and if it was she's gotta be REALLY PSYCHO cause i had a civic when we were dating a couple years back.
Only other thing i can think of is ex lead singer of my band, but again, pre-8. If its her, I know where she lives and she's gonna get some shock and awe on her ride.

I believe that was a reference to your gf's ex, not your ex.

I don't believe in coincedences like this. Sorry to say, you and your 8 are a target. You never know. Didn't have to be anything you did that was memorable to you, just memorable to someone else.

BTW, the real issue is fixing your 8 back to its previous pristine state. Check out autopia.org for great instructions on chip repair.

I agree with Jedi54 in that it is someone that knows you and is jelous/pissed/immature/stupid and just want to inflict punishment to you. Two eggings at two different locations really sounds intentional. The X or wanna be seems most likely whether its yours or hers.

I would get the car cover "MTCD01" mentioned AND do the vid if you think it may happen again. But then, if they want to get you again and they see the cover, they will probably do something more aggressive like throw rocks!

Good luck and keep us posted.

this is my theory...and I believe it is played out again and again

the RX-8 is the first car many people I know who would never ever buy an American car bought since the 8 looks sooooooooo damn good

you are located in Virginia

your car makes American Sports Cars that normally look horrid now look like **** compared to yours...I've had several 'hicks' flip out at me (and I live in Minnesota) for not having an 'American' car...

too bad the f-ing morons don'y know Ford owns 40% of the company and along with Volvo is buyoing Ford up while Ford sales are going down the crapper

At least you made it to a year. The first time (yes it happened more than once) my car was a month old. The second time happened a week after I got it back the first time and the third time was about 10 days later. It really sucks.

Now since it seems to be the most popular question and especially from the cops, Do I know why someone would want to do that to me? No and nothing ever happened to my other car that I parked in the same place for years (until it got stolen). I live in a nice neighborhood of homes where there aren't any violent crimes. I don't drive like an idiot, I don't bother anyone in the neighborhood, I keep to myself and basically live and let live. I'm not a mean person, not rude, not anything that would deserve such treatment. I will say that by this happening it has made me meaner and desiring to harm the vandals.
The kids are probably jealous because some *old* lady is driving a cool car that is usually clean and shiny.

Well the first time they hit at least one other car within a couple miles of me. The second time they hit like 10 cars on the street and the third time we almost caught them.

I covered the car for awhile after I got it back, until it started raining. I also have a surveillance camera set up and I've been out to "visit" my car a few times when this group of young adults are hanging out in the neighborhood. I have a feeling I *know* who it is (that group, the kid who throws trash out of his car on the neighbors lawn), I now know a lot about the kids in the neighborhood. Who is littering on the neighbors lawn etc. I have also added a license plate that should provide at least a little bit of thought to the vandals. I really wish they would catch the rotten bast#$@s and make their parents pay for the damage and send them to juvenille hall or jail (they are somewhere in that 16-21 age range).

Loaded, sounds like you are doing just about all you can do. I had a problem with a kid in my neighborhood. The only thing that helped was the family moved. Boy was I glad. The vandalism stopped immediately. The really sad thing is that if you approach the kids parents, it will just **** the kid off and you can expect more problems. They will just change their tactics. I had another issue in which a very immature grown man was causing me problems. Since he was in the construction business I hired him to do a job for me at what he did for a living. It gave us time to talk about things in general. I never discussed the issues I had with him. His vandalism stopped immediately as well.

I think if you approached the kid with an opportunity to do something like cut grass, rake the yard or something where he actually got to communicate with you, he’d gain a little respect for you. If you do not discuss the issue about the eggs and blame him directly then he will be grateful that you did not come down on him (if it actually was that kid) or he may be a little scared you may cut him up into little pieces and stuff him in the black plastic bags with the leaves. :D Any way it will start a dialog without confrontation. I've found that works best. Otherwise you will just have to play the waiting game for him to grow up! I've had to do that too.

There is always one other option...it is illegal but as long as you do it right there shouldn't be a problem.

Purchase a paintball gun, learn how to use it properly, purchase "All Star" paint ***** manufactured by RP Schere (known to tourney players as "evil"), hide in the bushes, then aim low and let 'em have it (do not aim anywhere near the head or face as you could blind the target). You should be able to pump 180-200 rounds into the target (capacity of the hopper), you'll need a bit of foam to place over the barrel (silencer). Any skin that comes in contact with the paint (iodine based and extremely runny) will be yellow for about a week. Be sure you purchase the gun with cash a decent distance away from your home (just in case they file a complaint).

I don't recommend this but I always wanted to do it to the ****ers that were vandalizing/stealing parts from my car.

good point here, - the damage done hopefully can be fixed with detailing, luckily is constrained to chippage, with some swirls from each egg. the chips are all the way thru though. I'll probably have a professional do it even though I have the touch up paint from mazda, just cause. then it'll get lots of zaino again.

it just INFURIATES me that while I feel lucky I've made it so far, all my efforts, keeping it clean, parking in the right spaces, all those things comprimised just because a bunch of vandals.

Sounds like great fun, instant pleasure and gratification. I'd love to do that. That's kind of like waiting for the car to come by and shooting the tires out with a .22 (which I have tried to do) Repercussions would be horrific. A war would be on and you would loose in the long run. The problem with this (experience speaking) is that you become a stalker, waiting, impatiently for something that may or may not happen. It takes your time and can become an obsession.

My time is more important than waiting on perps. I think dealing with it up front is the best way to handle it. That is if you know who is doing it. If you don't... Hell, 200 rounds sounds pretty dang good to me! Sitting around, drinking beer and brandishing a paint gun could be a blast.

We had an incident in our county that drew national attention. A young man and several friends (friends of my son's) were riding through a neighborhood in a car. I think they were probably speeding and may have been repeat offenders. A man who had lived on the street decided he had had enough and was going to do something about it. He extracted a real estate sign form the lawn (the metal kind with two rods that you stand on to push into the ground) and flung it at the car. It pierced the boy's neck and dang near killed him. The man had been drinking and I think he may have earned some jail time for attempted murder. He was just a casual guy was pissed off at kids and made a HUGE mistake.

My suggestion is don't put yourself in a situation that can backfire. Think before you act and don't do something stupid.
