Running rotary's in the higher rpm range is very common, that's where most of our power is found. I would say it's neither very harmful or really helpful, I say just drive the **** out of it. It's a rotary **** is going to break, have fun with it.

It's right, and it's wrong.

Too much high RPM driving can cause problems with overheating (warping the housings) and side seal spring failure. However, not enough high RPM driving (too much low RPM driving) and the carbon caking rate climbs quite a bit and can cause it's own range of issues. You want both types of driving regularly. Sticking with one and one only leads to problems.

Thanks for the answer about the revi intake. I have one last question. I am leaving out the duct for now seeing as I dont have the racing beat duct, and the instructions say not re-install the factory one.

The MAF connector is the 2nd connector on a single pair of wires corded together. There is also another connector that splits away from the MAF on the same strand. I think its the factory VFAD maybe? the fresh air thing?

When installing the rb intake, the only thing that you connect with the RB intake is the MAF, so do I just leave that cable unplugged to nothing hanging under the hood? or tape it up, or something like that?

I would leave it plugged just to avoid the possibility of it getting wet or contaminated and shorting out .

Hey everybody, I have a 2004 with 49,000 miles and it recently started having trouble shifting into 6th gear. I went to Redline MT90 a few thousand miles ago (before this happened), and have never had any trouble shifting into any gear before now. Shifting is VERY difficult; sometimes it wont go in at all, others it grinds. Either way it's a fight. This happens when the car is moving, stationary, and even when it's not running. I know this is about the time when the clutch pedal breaks, but I thought the symptoms would be present in more than one gear. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

have a look at the metal plate underneath the lever boot . If that looks fine then you probably have a major internal g/box problem .

If you're talking about the plate under the shift boot, I just checked it and everything looks ok. Guess its time to start selling myself for money then haha.

I'm gonna be getting my 6 port 8 rebuilt in the not too distant future and was considering getting it street ported during the rebuild. However, due to the fact that I'll have to ship it to the UK as nobody in Ireland does renesis porting it's probably gonna cost me in the region of $1500.

My question is would this money be better spent elsewhere? How much performance am I likely to gain from a street port? Other mods I was considering were a BHR flywheel, stage 1 exedy clutch, BHR midpipe and a Cobb AP with MM tune. Would a streetport compliment these?

MMMmmm I've not done a lot of research in to street porting but I would guess to get any appreciably amount of power you'll also need to get it tuned?

Do you have a tuner?

I recently replaced my spark plugs. I ordered the plugs from Advance Auto...so I just searched the website and ordered the ones it showed. After putting them in I realized that I made a stupid mistake. Instead of using the two different kinds of plugs for trailing/leading I used all the 9B ones (trailing?). Now, it seems to work just fine like that- starts normally and everything so I decided to leave it like that for the time being. But I was wondering if that is detrimental in any way, because if it is its not a big deal for me to replace the two wrong plugs with the proper ones...

Can any turbo 8 owners tell me what's the highest exhaust gas temp you have seen?
Tryin to decided on a coating, and there are tons of choices, just trying to make a more educated decision.
Thanks.

Really, really hot? j/k forgot this is the do not flame thread... EGTs are calculated and show up as Catalyst Temp via standard OBD2 pid. Mine tends to run between 1400-1600 F but I've seen it sneak up to 1800 under load.

im gonna say Syncro is gone see if i'll go in to gear with out forcing, as you are about to drop it in to 6th, lean the shifter in 6th and let go of the gas, but keep the clutch in and see if i'll slide in. if it will then your syncros are starting to warp or possibly are cracked

I just got my rx8 a month ago and recently the display on the radio has stopped working. About a week ago the radio would stop working and the buttons wouldnt work and the display at the top would not work but if i restarted it a couple times it would work again. Now the display has just stopped working but all the buttons and everything else works. No ipod mods or anything have been done to the head unit so I'm not sure what could be wrong with it. Should i remove the head unit and reconnect all of the wires?

I'm looking for an owners manual for a 2005. Bought it used and need a starting reference for all the sorts of things you don't think about till you need to do them.

There are a few PDFs posted here that you can do site searches for.

Or, you can go to MazdaUSA.com, go to the Owners section, sign up for a free account with your VIN, and download the exact PDF manual for your year.

Thanks.. didn't know about that option. I thought I'd posted a WTB in one of the forums here, but honestly, this site is taking me a while to learn how to navigate, so it may not even be there!

If you click your name, in the drop-down, one of the options is to "find more posts by", which shows that your only other post is in a DIY thread.

Ok, I give. How do you guys/gals clean your dash (specifcally the radio area that's a glassy black plastic) so that it doesn't have streak marks and get dusty again in a day?

I just use a clean, dry microfiber towel to wipe it down.

Also stupid question #2:
Clutch gives out a bit of a squeaky noise only when lifting it up. Is it time for a bracket? Or should I bring it to the dealer? I dont want to get charged 2 hours of labor just for them to look at it and say its fine though.
