Oh I missed that it was a switchblade. I presumed that all '10s came with the smart card only?

Exclamation idk if this is a dumb question

After the engine has had time to warm up, when I press the clutch, sometimes it will just die. idk where to even begin looking.

Blue Smoke Start up

so I am having a problem, my rx 8 2004 at start up throws blue smoke but once its warmed up its gone. this is my first rx8 so I'm new to this when I drive it I don't feel it pushe me back at I changed my spark plugs and wires but didn't changed the coils, can that be a reason? I mean wouldn't I get a code saying misfire? or can it be because the blue smoke is a broken oil ring and it as lost power due to that?

You could have a problem, but keep in mind this car is low on Torque. This is not a great 0-60 car, it isnt going to pin you to the seat like a muscle car.

Thats the same weight oil I use, thats not the problem. It could however be a million different things. I really cant diagnose, maybe think about starting your own thread and go into as much detail as possible with the issues you are having. Are you getting any CEL's?

Also, its always a good idea to replace all the ignition components together. I would have replaced the coils with the wires and plugs.

Hey everyone I'm new to this forum and I was hoping you guys could offer me some insight.

I just got my 8 about a month ago and recently started premixing, now when I went to top off my oil I noticed it's been burning less oil than before I started premixing. Could this be because the ECU is detecting the 2 stroke and therefore not using as much of the engine oil? Or could it be an OMP issue?

Thank you guys for feedback. 👍

There is no way for the engine to tell you are Premixing. So it is either the OMP or your driving habits have changed

I'm just looking into getting one of these. What are some common issues to look out for when buying one new or used?

So I got a dumb question. Can 2 cars with the same exhaust sound different? I recently got an R Magic exhaust, so I kept my car next to my buddy's R3 (he's also got an R Magic exhaust) and did some revs. His is noticeably more "crisper". Mine sounds muffled and bassy. They're both pretty loud. Loudness is about the same. But his has more treble. Mine has more bass lol. Both have stock gutted cats. Both Series 2s. I can't understand why they sound different!

Any ideas guys?

Rotaries are hard on exaust. ..they burn out resonators and mufflers quite fast. Likely your buddies exhaust is a bit more crispy inside than yours. ... 😎

LOL. Makes sense. Both have gutted cats and resonators though. Maybe his exhaust is a little old.

Anyone figure out the best way to clean in between the trunk and skylight? Also why does so much dust build up in the engine bay so quickly?

Also when Mazda replaces the engine, they replace the bands around the engine?

Lastly I am looking for a bin with a lid for the trunk for like oil and antifreeze. Anyone have any suggestions? The trunk size is awkward.

Thank you.

Out of curiosity, if i were to gut my cat. How badly does it harm the engine ? I searched around forums without a definite logical answer. People proposed theories. Some For and some against.

It doesn't hurt anything.
It's more likely to hurt the engine with it on.
Cat delete is maybe the most popular mod.

Someone presented this turbulence theory, caused by gutting cat. Backed by a dyno result from a miata which showed loss of 1 hp.

Someone doesn't know what they are talking about.
One horsepower is meaningless, buried deep below the margin of error on a typical dyno.

The RX-8 is not a Miata. It's not even a piston engine. Not comparable.

Gut that cat!

(For offroad use only. You mileage may vary. Discontinue use if rash develops...)

If you're talking about gutting a good cat, then no, don't do it.
If you're looking for more HP, then get a midpipe.
If your cat is bad, gut it.

With respect to the weather-stripping in the trunk, is that suppose to come looped together? I look it up at all Auto stores for my R-8 make and model and it looks cut. The weather stripping on the lower part of the trunk not on the actual lid. more around the rim when you open it. Mine has ruptured and water is getting in when it rains. Thanks.

Gutting reduces mileage ? Why would that be. Will the engine run leaner ?

Redlining? The manual is saying redlining is bad for the engine, meanwhile people on here have mentioned redlining is good. I am confused.
