Was wondering what the possible things the dash indicator light that says AT means. I know the automatic trans has a sensor on it but my 04 auto shows the AT on the dash but my car shifts and runs fine. I thought it might have come on because of the heat on a 100 degree day. Any input?. oh also i checked the trans fluid level in my garage after it was driven awhile and the fluid is full?. just wondering?. The stealership wants $130.00 to tell me. I'm retired and do not have $130.00 to spare at this time. I have 98,000 plus miles.

Does this make sense?

So for a while now I've had a problem with my car starting and cranking.

I've

Cleaned the MAF
Cleaned the throttle body
Had the intake manifold solenoids replaced
Had a new fuel pump installed
Changing the intake air filter asap

I thought I had an alternator issue but took it to Autozone and they tested electronics and all good. Also no codes on the reader from them or the high powered readers my mechanic uses. ???

Autozone said they felt the car sounds like its trying to get fuel but cant, hence the crank. I feel its the fuel injectors but my mechanic says no way. We are going to retest the fuel pump this weekend.

The only other thing I think it could be is the starter. But the crank is worse when I use the A/C for a while bit (15 min +).

Any ideas? Sorry to bother, I made a previous post but I will not make any more on this issue. Dont want to be a bother. Thanks in advance.

Oh btw its a 05, 65k mi Rx-8

Plugs/coils/wires check? Compression? Which starter?

Read the starting issues sticky on the troubleshooting subforum

Mazdafan you are not a bother, we are happy to help, but we can only help you if you read what we write. Look back and you'll see we didn't think it was the fuel pump or the MAF or the injectors. I wouldn't think it's the solenoids or the alternator. So you've spent a lot of money you didn't need to.
We've suggested three solutions for you several times:
1. Starter
2. Starter
3. Starter

At 65k miles you are at the point where compression can drop below what the original slow starter can handle. If you monitor the coolant temperature with an OBD-II reader, I guarantee you that it starts fine when the temp is below 160 degrees (IIRC) and only has trouble above that temp. That temp is where the extra "cold start" fuel enrichment kicks-in.

Did I mention you should replace the starter with the newer upgraded starter?

Let me suggest again what gwilliams suggested you do a couple of weeks ago. Note that the starter is near the top after the battery and checking connections:

Starting the Engine
• Starter
• Battery
• Engine Compression
• Grounding Wires
• Ignition Coils
• Spark Plugs
• Spark Plug Wires
• Fuel Pump
• Fuel Injectors
Has anybody suggested it's your starter? It's your starter.

There is WAY too much to cover in this thread. Spend about a year reading the FI subforum, and then you'll be ready to get started.

Hey thanks Dallas!

It's a custom top mount build, I'm the original owner, and it's time for some boost. I've avoided going FI simply because I can't stand every turbo car that pulls up beside me with that Bov noise that makes me cringe. But I really need to catch up to that corrolla s and show him who's boss. I have an AP, and I intend to purchase a CCS from MM for the tune, but I just need to know how to go about the other stuff. I'm confused because some applications have the maf pre turbo and others have it post. I also heard that the air pump gets deleted. I'll read up on the FI threads and see if I find what I'm looking for. If not I'll have a few more dumb questions. Thanks for the heads up!

My mechanic is refunding me for the fuel pump and putting back the old one, no charge. I am going to check with the dealership next week to be sure. But I will ask for a price quote for the dealership with regard to the starter, if they say too high then I'll have my mechanic do it. Thanks again for helping me pay attention.

Also what your saying I think makes sense. A cold start I get a better start then if I ran it for a while, ESP after the A/C comes on it cranks like hell. The A/C creates alot of heat?

Edit: just called my mechanic and he feels STRONGLY its the ECU or the injectors. Whatever lets see what Mazda says. I feel your right though. I plan on getting the starter. I hope they give me a deal.

Any one have any idea what the potential reasons are for the AT to appear once in a while on the dash display?. Runs and shifts fine(automatic trans)?.

Hey reni

I'm not totally sure if it's an AT problem or an rx8 problem, but the only thing that made my dash light up, was when I had a short in the 3rd brake light in the trunk. The dealership couldn't even figure it out. The trunk would open on its own.....so creepy. Check to see if your trunk brake light is working!
Worth a look no? And if any of the super fast turbo owners have an answer for my question, letr

well reni,

it looks like we're on our own. the only help we're gonna get is from the odd member saying "spend the next 15 years reading all the threads, and maybe then you'll be ready to blah, blah, blah." either most of the members sold their 8's or they're actually reading our posts, but are too embarrassed to be considered

P2?
S?
P2 is better . Best injectors to use are Mazda ones though as the latency table for P2 and S is the same table !

Plenty of members have helped other members throughout the years. What makes you think you are "on your own"?
Your questions aren't meant for straight forward answers. You don't seem to have much of a realistic grasp on what you're hoping to achieve. How much reading have you done on turbocharging a renesis?

Do your research BEFORE going down the lonely road of boosting, as getting help here correlates directly to the amount of research you put into it. So far, you aren't showing much...

Thanks man!
They're the green ones, I guess they were punched out to 750cc
But I think they are the ones that came on the 4port. They look just like the yellow and reds.
I didn't plan on tuning it myself.
I was gonna get my buddy who tunes turbo Hondas to do it. But after I pulled a plug I realized he
Might not be able to. If it's just a matter of entering a new value in the p2 injector size box, then I can do that. If not I'll have MM do it for me. Seeing that the injector scale currently does not reflect the actual size of them.
(Stage1 Cobb ap).

Sorry for the sarcasm

You are mistaken.
This is the Dumb Question thread, straightforward, helpful answers are what's expected here.
If someone doesn't have a straightforward answer, then they usually refrain from replying.
Many times the questions are easily answered with minimal effort and are ignored.

The issue sometimes lie with the questions, not the lack of answers.
There are still many active enthusiasts here.

Don't paint the forum with such a broad brush.

it was a bit sacastic, i was trying to stay on topic. my questions are dumb to sombody who has already gone through the process. iv done plenty of reading all over the forum, and i still cant seem to find what im looking for. (including all the trolling in between).go ahead and ask me anything. i hope to achieve 10psi of boost. i know what it feels like and i want it. i dont really care about the whp, 275-300 would do me fine. im not asking for someone to tell me the step by step, a simple yes or no A or B.

i offered my help to reni04 even before i received any help for my dumb question. so much for admiration.

Um, no..
There was no passion at all, just trying to explain the concept of this thread, which seems to have been lost on some members in the last few weeks.
The no flaming or sarcasm is supposed to work both ways.
I try to help members within the scope of my knowledge, and I also try to help others take ownership of this forum.
Take that as what you will.

Ok, I get it. Could somebody kindly post a link "for me" and maybe other people, that explains what components that need be removed during the turbo conversion. It's a long question I know, but I'm sure the answer could be summed up in a few words. Also I looked up MM and he appears to be banned? I'm hoping that's a dumb question.

Read the STICKIES in the major horsepower forum. They explain at least the minimum requirements one needs when considering turbocharging. You'll find there the necessary parts which need to be removed or modified.

Yes, MM is banned.
I'm not sure about turbo conversions, but a Google search of "RX8Club turbo conversion" had beaucoup results.
I know 9krpmrx8 has a very detailed boost thread, maybe he can help you.

It seems you are searching for a "one size fits all" solution to boosting.

Simply put there is not one.
If you look through the major horsepower threads you will see a myriad of different Setups.
No one here has a blanket answer for you.

I will help with this bit of info. You will need...

A new fuel pump
A better clutch (depending upon power goals)
Gauges-afr, boost, oil pressure and most would argue fuel pressure at minimum.
A way to tune it, I.E. Cobb
Most would also argue either a spare motor or enough cash for a spare for WHEN you blow your engine.
Boost controller
There is quite a bit involved with boosting a car. It's not just slap it on and go. It seems you don't have the patience to read through threads (there are a lot I know) which would lead me to believe you may not have the patience for this either.

Hopefully that bit if info and my two cents helps.

Good luck

Travis

My tranny shifts fine and so forth so it may be just a mazda thing?. if you want to have a comparison o posts of the bully types here just go back and read their posts at the beginning when they had like 100 posts and then go forward and see how snarky they got as the posts count climbs, the higher the post count the more nasty they seem to get lol. This tells the story. Guess i'll ask my question on another thread, it's either too complicated or i am beng snubbed ?, who knows?.lol.
