jump in your boot and close it . If it's light in there ..... you found your problem .

If you can't get out , you have another problem

What do you mean by no headlights ?

Is the car starting? If yes, I speculate that your problem is blown fuses.

I had this exact problem....somehow the trunk kept popping open and the lights came on....which drained the battery. Of course, we didn't think to CHECK the trunk as all the important stuff is under the HOOD so didn't check the BACK end of the car! Now I make sure to check the trunk every time I shut the car off. Problem solved!

Anyone out there hear this one: " You have to replace the entire upper intake manifold. Mazda doesn't sell the butterfly valve (SSV I'm guessing) anymore." A 75 dollar part went to a 2200 dollar service. Has this happened to anyone else? And no, I did not pay for the service.

Guys, I have a serious question but I can't seem to post this in a new thread. New to the forum too. My Rx-8 S2 manual says I can open the windows from the outside and close them with the key fob. It also says I can double lock the car and the hazards will flash 3 times to confirm it's done etc. mine seems to not have these features. Any idea why? Also is the front windscreen and the driver and passenger windows actually heated like it says in the manual? I'm in the Uk by the way, in case it's a country specific model or something. Any help appreciated

I have an S1 & haven't read the entire owner's manual, but I never heard of the windshield & sideglass being heated.
Mirrors & rear window defogger, yes.

I had a Chrysler T&C that had the section where the wipers sat on the windshield that was heated.

One of the reasons your lights don't flash could be because your trunk (boot) is open or just not closed tight.

If you double tap and hold unlock, it will roll the windows down. This only works after initial window programming (i.e. if auto rolldown works, window is properly programmed, if not, then roll windows all the way down, then all the way up. Test by pressing down window button all the way on the drivers side to see if it automatically rolls all the way down).

If you press lock 2 times, the lights should flash and the horn should beep to confirm car is properly locked. Like Al said .. if it doesn't do this then you have a door that is open somewhere (trunk is easily overlooked)

door, trunk, or hood. A hood that isn't closed the whole way also won't allow the flash on lock.

(sorry for the grammar its a little late and I'm tired as hell)

I have an '04 AT with over 158K on the body and around 88K on the second engine. (New rack and pinion, spark plugs, wires, etc) I know I'm gonna get stick for having an Auto, but I wrecked my Speed3 and I was able to buy this for only $2800 so give me a break..

Anyway, here's the problem:

I've put like 600 miles on it so far and it's starting to perform really badly. The engine whirrs/whines at just 3000 RPM. I can best describe it as an R/C toy car whine. When I shift (I drive in "M" mode, makes me feel better), it has significant jump in revs from 2nd to 3rd gear. When I stop the car will rev all the way to red line without moving before i get some wheel spin and then it will go. It does this on 1st and 2nd gear. I can best describe it as holding the clutch down while giving it gas, keeping in mind it's an automatic, but just to give you guys some idea, that's what it does. I have no CEL or any other light on at the moment. The weather has been very cold. I changed the oil around 200 miles ago. Any help or insight is much appreciated right now as I feel absolutely hopeless.

Thank you

Sounds like problems with the transmission. I don't know enough about AT transmissions to point you in the right direction though.

No I mean the lights do flash. It's just the deadlock feature the car apparently has, it definitely doesn't beep. And the auto window open/close does work, but opening windows with key fob also definitely doesn't

After reading through the potential owner thread twice and well I don't want this car because it is fast but I personally love the styling, but this leaves me with one thing I would have to get one for around 5 being the bottom end on kbb and knowing that you can't tell me how much would you personally stay away from one like this one listed below does the 4k price seem to good to be true on this ?

Hi, your post is jumbled and runs on a bit, I'm not sure what you're asking.
One thing stands out to me, at 89k it says "short block replaced".
I believe that means new engine. If it passes a compression test, then it sounds pretty good to me.

i bought my 04 rx8 at 70k, it has 115k now. Honestly how reliable is this motor/car? So far ive had some issues but nothing i couldnt fix. radiator leak and power steering is acting up (going to work on that next week) and sometimes i have hard starting, especially if the engine is very warm. its been like that for the past 45k lol

i also need to be able to tow a very light trailer, i wont have passengers whenever i do this though. the trailer is light enough to where if its on the tow hitch i can lift it with one arm. I'll be towing about 350 pounds (motorcycle) to get to the track and back about 3-4 times a month at the very most
Bad idea to do this with the rx8 with these mileage?

oh yeah how do i fix the hard starting? idk why that happens. some mechanic said he would clean my fuel injectors for $30 when i was getting my oil changed and i asked him if he was going to actually clean them or just throw a bottle of stuff in my tank. but he said he'll actually clean them, so i said heck for $30 why not. didnt do anything

I'd answer you directly, but i already did there. And that has lots more answers that you don't know you are going to as yet.

Towing is probably viable, though not sure how viable it will be on a weak engine (hot start problems = low compression problems)
