I too am guilty of this voyeuristic pleasure. If all I do is a double-take it's cuz I'm late. Thank God I live and work in the city where there are many glass windows to reflect the car's image going by. In fact there are a few really good mirrored glass buildings I go out of my way to drive by!
I'm glad I'm not the only one with this "sickness"!

Is it wrong to love a machine? I say "NO"!!!!!!!!!
At a certain point, I am sure that some mechanical objects develop some sort of "soul". My 8's got lots of it, brother. I think it depends on the items personal connection to its owner.
Other mechanical items with "soul": certain timepieces, tools, weapons. All items of a very personal nature.
Of course, my wife thinks I'm nuts. At least I haven't named it yet!!!!!

I lock it and then look back to see the lights go on and off -- simply because I don't want to hit lock again to confirm it's locked (ie: get the horn). I think it's cooler to do that than walk away and get a beep.

Guilty, and I've had my car for 9 months now! It doesn't wear off, or like one of you said if it does it's time to get a new car. Damn, when the car is newly washed and waxed and parked in the bright sunlight, gazing back at it is almost a sexual experience. So damn hot. Now scuze me while I wander to the garage...

I NEVER look back. You see the reason for that is that I walk backwards to where ever I'm going so the car is always in front of me.... I guess maybe I should learn to look back...the headaches from hitting the wall is starting to get to me.

omg this thread is so great! I do like to stare when other people aren't around, I try not to when other people are around, and I also check the parking surroundings. This is the first car I've had where I purposely park away from anybody else if I can.
Of course I enjoy it when other people are checking it out & asking me questions about it too. I've had this happen every day I stop somewhere with it. It's still somewhat uncommon around here.

I typically open the garage to look at her before I go to bed...partly do this to mess with my wife! ;-) But, like most of you....occasionally (okay, mostly) look back at my 8! (can't help it!!)

Anyone seen the Canadian RX8 TV commercial where the guy is in the garage hugging his car with the 2 doors open, then the doors gently close, hugging him back. Then the wife/girlfriend comes up behind them with a weird look. It's priceless, my kids get the biggest kick out of it, saying the guy on TV is just like Daddy. It catches the sentiments of RX8 owners perfectly.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who deos this. I can't help but to look back every time I exit the car (partly to be sure the alarm armed, since the door locks are so quite). My GF says I look at it more than I look at her.
