Thumbs down Backed into...Adamngain!

I wish muthaf@*!as stop backing into my damn car! This is the second time in like 2 months this has happened--first time was the front--this time its the left rear bumper. So I was inside of this spot trying to get some lunch and I hear the familiar "Does anyone drive a Mazda RX8?" So I say "goddamnit" We go outside and apparently he had backed into it with the biggest Toyota Tundra I had ever seen in my life--on 20"s. The guy had some of his coworkers with him and what not and he was real cool--he gave me his Allstate info and apologies--I told him no big deal and that I was glad he stopped. As far as the damage is concerned--thank god the car is nordic green--the dent looks like a reflection from the sun from a distance. I already got an estimate ($568) to replace and paint a new bumper--there is also a scratch on the tail light. They are going to try and get the scratch out--if they can't satisfactorily they will replace the tail lamp. The good thing about it is that there was some existing minor damage (barely noticeable unless you come up on the car) from a previous parking lot incident in which the person left. So I get that taken care of as well--for free :D

I am definately paranoid now--you are gonna see me parking so far away that I will need to catch a bus to the front door of places now.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Dre, but at least you didn't get the rock through the windshield by some deranged hobo. It's **** like this that prevent me from going out every night. I hate people.

I have had the worst luck lately, too. I finally have my 8 back in tiptop shape this morning. In March a woman hit me while making a left turn (btw, $700 for new bumper and paint, your body shop must give a bargain), then in April someone backed into me while I was parked and broke my front license plate holder and bent my plate, then in May someone sideswiped me on the same street, took out my clear corner and necessitated a bumper repaint. I finally got the bodywork done last week and the clear corner from another forum member came earlier this week, took a couple different Pep Boys to find a new amber bulb, but it was all done this morning. I'm going to wash, wax and photo this weekend before anything else happens to it!

don't park too far if someone does hit your car and want to find the owner, you won't be available!

Dre, sorry man. Getting the old damage repaired free definately helps soften the blow though.

Sorry to hear about your incident. I always park far out and take up two spots. BTW, I just found out yesterday that I must have hit something sharp that put a nice gouge in my front bumper and two slits in the panel under it. Less than 4500 miles on my car and I have to use touch-up paint to help hide the blemish. Sucks!

I always park very far. I tell anyone who rides my car that they better like walking

I never take more than one parking spot though, I think parking very far is good enough.

Hope your car is fixed soon so you don't miss your 8 too much.

I am totally in agreement. That is awesome that he actually came to look for you. If it were me, I think I would have left my insurance information, name, and phone number on your car, not tried to find you. From what I know that is more than what most will do. Give that guy kudos and if you ever see him again, ask him if he is single cause I am looking for a good honest man who has good taste (I was on a test drive in a Toyota Tundra when I saw an RX8 and looked to the left to see a whole lot full of them. Needless to say, I thanked the Toyota salesman for the test drive and headed for the BMW/Mazda dealership).

Just jack up your car like big foot. that would be so cool!!!!!

Imagine that a 3 foot gap from tire to wheel well.

That's rotten, Dre. I just got mine back from the shop (bad cat - took a week for the techs to figure that one out) and was gleefully backing into my garage spot and quickly discovered my wife had left the lawn mower - pointiest end forward, of course - rignt in my way! CRUNCH! The damage was minimal, but still not a good way to bring my baby home...

Yeah--Once I saw where the damage was--I was somewhat relieved. Hopefully the car will be finished by next weekend.

Maybe I'm a bit obsessed, I will forego a parking space to try to find one where no one can park in front (whenever possible). Passengers think I'm crazy. I'm even freaking myself out....

But I've done that with all my cars. There a lot of people who parallel park by feel. And the 8 doesn't look or feel particularly resistant to minor bumps.

Obsessive complusive?

That's the best way to get keyed, man. The taking up of two spaces, that is.

Yea, that is one of my biggest pet peaves....pisses me off to high heaven. Especially when there are no more spaces in the lot, or up front near the entrance of the building.

I think to myself "What you're so much better than me that you deserve two spaces, and I don't deserve even one?"

That's when I wish I had a beater car, so I could park as close as possible and "accidentally" give him a door ding. Though I've never carried out my evil thoughts.

Ok, my rant is over....sorry to hear about the guy hitting your car, but at least he was a class act and came and got you.
