I was trying to explain the engine core warranty to him over the phone. He just kept telling me, "The dealer said - no warranty!"
I pretty much said, "Don't touch anything on your car and don't talk to any more dealers and what not......until I get there!"
We'll see what happens tonight.

Here's my report:
1st De-Flood Method (out of many with rests in between to not burn out the starter or kill the battery): Pulled the Fuel Fuse, followed the de-flood procedure, and no luck.
2nd De-Flood Method: Towed the car in 2nd gear (with clutch in), slowly let it out, and still had no luck.
Some interesting findings:
- The owner didn't know that we had to re-fill oil due to the design of the engine. When I pulled the dipstick, the oil level was at rock bottom. BAD SIGN.
- The owner's "shop" that he took it to for some reason drained the coolant but didn't replace the petcock. Pour in coolant......out comes the coolant. ANOTHER VERY BAD SIGN.
- The car has used Mobil 1 for it's oil changes.....I know I know....it's subjective but I do not like that oil for this car.
- Fuse box and alternator was okay.
- Battery was dead
- Even with my battery and a secondary power source (another running car used to jump), the car didn't not want to turn over.
- Spark plugs were clean and in the right position at their respective L and T locations
- Plug wires were nice and tight and had no moisture underneath the boots
- Coils were connected.....didn't get to test if they were bad though. Even so, a tow start SHOULD HAVE at least got us close to starting.
It wasn't even close. It almost feels as if the owner didn't know about the oiling characteristics of this car and probably broke an apex seal and destroyed the housing. The motor won't even turn one bit.....almost as if the metal-to-metal contact is so severe...the actual rotor won't turn at all.
We're replacing all the stock parts on Sunday. Any final thoughts before I help this guy with a new engine warranty?

When you turn the key, do you hear clicking? Does turning the key produce any noises?
If the maintenance is as bad as you say, I think he is SOL.
Dump oil and coolant in the car before going to Mazda lol. If they see no fluids they will void the warranty for improper maintenance.

Yepper this is not a water issue.
Sounds like he ran the car without oil!
Also no coolant.... sounds like he also ran the car with out coolant.
Guess what happens........
Drivng through water is just a coincidence.

I knew it wasn't just a water problem and was trying to get that across to him! Argh!
Eddie is to be commended for trying to help out!
If I wasn't 3,000 miles away, I'd come help......but..........I'm afraid that it doesn't sound real good though.
No oil, no water, no worky.
Heed this piece of advice that was given! "Dump oil and coolant in the car before going to Mazda lol. If they see no fluids they will void the warranty for improper maintenance".

Thanks guys.
All the other posts on this forums from members and vendors like CRH, TeamRX8, Eric_Meyer, and much more helped me keep my car in tip top shape and also not freak out everytime something happens that's out of the ordinary.
To elaborate more on my findings:
The owner definitely did not know how to properly maintain the car - a common issue with the past ownerships throughtout the history of this model.
He didn't know how the engine worked therefore didn't know that oil consumption was a part of the design. We also attempted to top off the coolant (after replacing a petcock that was missing) while I was there and as soon as we poured it in - coolant poured right back out underneath the car. At this point, I'm a bit confused.
I checked all of the hoses and they seemed to be fine. The radiator appeared to be okay as well. Could this be a cracked iron somehow? Can coolant leak out of the engine? Any ideas where to look?
I'm bringing him my OEM exhaust and OEM intake assembly with VFAD. Let's see what the dealership says about this one.

Paging.....the rotary engine builders
Does this sound like there is catastrophic damage? I've had a few rotary cars in the past but I never had one just completely stop working one day. Normally, I would experience power loss and then there would be a decline from that point.

Eddie, I'm not an engine builder by any means, but if you got coolant running out, you better find out where it's coming from. You say...no hose....no radiator.......so fill it up again with water(no sense in wasting coolant) and determine where the hell it's coming from. I'm gonna guess that he's pretty much screwed and that it is a major crack somewhere. I hope not, but that's the reality. He may have ran it out of oil AND coolant and now he's gonna pay the price.

If the oil was that low. The engine starved oil and more than likely an apex seal cracked, oil control rings and the sides of the rotors scraped the faces of the side housings. Depending on the depth of the scores on the side housings they might be useless, and same with the rotors. But I'm sure this is only in the rear rotor.
Seen this in Renesis Engines I have built
If he cannot get any warranty send him my way Eddie. For warranty they require you to provide service records for the vehicle.

Well....
I'm on my way to go swap exhausts with him. We're doing a swap (OEM for his Greddy SE)....so the dealer doesn't suspect that any engine modifications were performed.
I've never seen an engine that was abused this bad. I had no idea how to take care of rotary engines when I had my FC back in the days. That thing ended up being a very costly mistake. 13B rebuilds at $2500 a pop back then.
But this one just stopped working one day. I'm sure the owner never felt the true potential of his car because I bet the power was down on this car long before the motor went south.

Car has been towed (using my AAA card since the guy didn't even have money for towing) to Mazda of Orange.
We're waiting for confirmation.
The good thing from this is....he was really grateful for my services and gave me his Greddy Spectrum Elite Exhaust that was barely 5 months old.
So we all win the end.....go help your fellow RX8 guys and you might get something in return.
