This reminds me how much I love USAA. Fantastic service, and full coverage with near max limits on my 99 Miata, 05 RX-8, and 06 Mazda5, $300 deductible on collision, $0 deductible on comprehensive, all the added opt-in stuff like roadside assistance, free towing, rental coverage, out of work coverage, etc... And me with a fairly extensive ticket history (...30+?) that isn't on public record but I'm 100% positive they know about since I've had them my whole life. Plus my wife with 2 accidents and a pair of tickets.

$251 a month.

Sounds about right. I'm 19, one at-fault crash in 2008, another in 2011, and one "no contest" citation (shouldn't appear on driving record). With Geico, $1000 deductible on Comprehensive and Collision, it's costing me $315 a month (the cheapest out of over 10 quotes). I switched from Progressive to Geico; Progressive was going to charge me $460 a month.

insurance for rx8

I am wondering the same thing..just joined the rx8 club..but have owned rx7s and rx8s for years..just re-bought an rx8 back from a friend..and am looking for insurance ..tried to get it listed with some classic and exotic companies..but so far no luck..hagarty almost when with it..Any ideas about a limited mileage (under3K per year) policy..or a good company that will give us low mileage drivers a break..I'm keep the mileage down so as to keep it as a "someday" collectable...its mint.

RX8 Insurance KILLS

Well, this might sound like the most insane amount you've ever heard of. I'm paying around $400.00 MONTHLY for my insurance policy. Note that I'm 18, never been in any accidents, have a great credit score & amazing driving record ( No tickets or warnings ). I'm paying $4,800 a year for my insurance policy. I'm the only one on my policy also! On top of all that, I paid this car with cash! Or in full! >.<

The insurance is State Farm.. They said if I cancel my policy and go to another insurance company that I'll have to pay a large fee & it'll effect my credit score in a terrible way. How much are you paying for your insurance?

Merging with prior insurance quote threads...

Pretty sure that what they told you about a fee and credit score hit isn't legal though. Might want to look into that.

I'm with State Farm also, in Illinois and it looks like the same county. While I'm 3X older, I haven't heard of anything like that.

Because you are 18 you will pay more than others (older people) when it comes to insurance. Just keep your record clean and it will decline with age. However you are free to shop around. There is no credit hit for shopping for insurance other than the inquiry's themselves from insurance companies checking your score. They are smart enough to know you are just shopping around. I personally think it's complete crap that your credit is checked to buy insurance, but that's just my opinion. Get online and check with other "reputable" companies and if someone offers you a better rate with equal or better coverage go for it. That is why there is competition. State farm and All state are a bit on the high side. I have state farm and have had them for almost 20 years. But to answer your question my policy is about $1200 every 6 months for my personal cars. My truck is on a fleet policy with my company. I am not sure what the rate is.

OUCH

All I can say is shop around, to most everyone, Stay away from state farm, i know people that work for them and refuse to use them, U would defently report what your agent told you, about peneltys and credit rating. I myself use Farmers Mutual and pay 150 a month. That is 2004 RX-8, 2006 Fusion, full coverage 500 deductable, 1996 F-150 and daughter 20 y/o on her 1992 stealth she pays her part, Im 38. If all I had was the RX-8 id pay 54 a month. full coverage. Credit has no effect on ins, driving record does, boy does it. As for the gentleman that has no ins due to being on wifes policy thats bull cause you were listed on hers so they lied to you. Yes where you live how far you commute, age, married or not does play a roll in price. Though not as much as some of you are paying. Remember you get a discount for car home/renters ins being combined.

Another good one is Met-life, I have full coverage with $500 deductible and mine is $34 a month. Good driving record 44 years old now I do get a discount because of other policy's but I've had two deer hit me 1st was 6000 $ damage right side 2nd deer hit me 3400 $ damage left side. They were great to deal with both times..

I'm going to let you in on a little life lesson you should learn right from now:

When someone threatens you to not do something, that means that they are taking advantage of you, big time.

I know that State Farm is a good insurance company, but you are being taken advantage of in a big way by whomever wrote you that policy. Normally I wouldn't ask this, but are you required to bring your monthly payments into the office to apply them, or are you mailing your payments to the main State Farm processing center?

If I were you, I would first call State Farm, and get a quote over the phone from them about how much you should really be paying. Yes, it will be high, but what you quoted sounds ridiculous. Then, after you get that quote, start calling Progressive, Geico, Liberty Mutual, 21st Century, Farmers (ick), American Family, Dairyland, and whomever else you can think of, and get a better price quote.

There is no hit on your credit for shopping insurance. You can make insurance inquiries 10 times a day for 3 months, and not a single point will drop off your credit score.

And there never has been a fee for cancelling an insurance policy.
This isn't a long term cellphone or cable contract.

Good luck.

In fact, I think you should post the name of your State Farm agent.
They took advantage of you because you're young, and loaded with free cash.

BC.

I have state farm and have had coverage with them since I turned 16 and the problem is they USED to be good but now anyone who hasn't been with them forever gets screwed over bad. My wife works for them and some of the stuff they do is messed up big time! But you've also got to understand that they've spent millions in research and studies. Although not always the case the 18 yr old male demographic is for the most part very irresponsible and more likely to wreck/speed/generally act dumb lol Just how it is. In the end they're in business to make money :-P I pay $125 a month for full coverage with $250 deductibles on both our cars, $500k medical on each one, and a long list of other stuff (surprising how much coverage the average "full coverage" package does not have) but like I said the wife works there so she sees this stuff all the time lol I could switch and save a few extra dollars but it would be like divorcing a wife of 12 years and starting over because they actually do reward you for staying with them and being accident free :-)

I forget what the RX8 alone was, but the funniest thing was when I called my insurer to tell them to take the insurance off the RX8 because I had just sold it. The girl said "OK but then you won't get the multi car discount!"
