New MazdaManiac BASE Calibrations
Update: In comparing my datalogs, it seems like my airflow is up an average of ~ 10% since my first tune. Just for curiosity's sake, I'm going to do a datalog of stock to see how much it's up overall. I wouldn't be surprised if my car is making 10% more hp since my first tune. It feels PHENOMINAL. Thank you MM!!
I don't do anything to recalibrate the MAF that would account for more than a fraction of a gram at cruise.
Maybe you are a prime candidate for the seminar.
Vacuum is a function of compression and sealing. You could bump your idle OMP values, but there really isn't any reason to do that.
Check your vacuum as you cruise at very low throttle and 3000 RPM. That is your "real" engine vacuum.

Why? Are you trying to clean your rugs?

That's what I was alluding to is improving the sealing via OMP or pre-mix. Probably not a huge effect but every little bit I suppose...
Rofl.
Speaking of airflow... whats are the points of the RPM curve and which gears does the car generate the highest flow? Is there a standard area that tends to be the peak for flow? Also what is the average max airflow for a stock 8 and what is the max people have seen both NA and FI?

Ok.. I have 4 MSD ls2 blaster coils on order, question for MM. will I anything need to be changed in my tune going from stock to msd ls2 coils? I don't know if they have the same dwell issues of mazsport or anything..,. I'm willing to bet once I change to the new coils it's gonna solve my problems... I DID notice, that when I start it cold, and it idles high, it's a bit sputtery.

oh, and find out how the MEP is effected by combustion efficiency

MM has told me my tune is complete! Car runs like a dream! My AFR's under WOT are in the low 12's.
Thanks again Jeff for the work you have put in to give me a better running 8 !

...I just didn't realize it was that much MORE airflow.
with port overlap there could be a small increase in flow but big picture its insignificant... in our engines its completely wishful thinking
The AFR effects how well the mixture will burn and how fast it burns. Timing effects when it burns. The idea of tuning is to find the ideal burn rate and timing that creates the most amount of work on the piston/rotor. Thats the real "point of tuning".

So, you wanna hazard a guess at where the extra flow is coming from since the MAF isn't being recalibrated as you asserted as your explanation elsewhere?
With my latest tune 4.0.3 my idle gets a little wacky. It stays around 800 and then i hear a thump and it drops to 700 to just resume at 800 a second later. This thump comes every 10 seconds during idle.
I'm going to take logs for the next tune tomorrow. Should I revert back to 4.0.2 while waiting for 4.0.4 or is this idle-thumping ok?

ok, thank you very much mm.. I was just worried about wot on the ls2 coils. i'm installing them now to see if they fix that sputter i've been having, I was told months ago that my coils were bad after I bought them about 3 weeks prior, so I didn't believe the mazda dealership. I couldn't believe that coils could die in 3 weeks. Now i'm thinking it was my coils.
