New MazdaManiac BASE Calibrations
#2676
1. Everytime i load a new map my car stalls at idle, but after a while it "learns" i guess and doesnt stall any more. is this normal?
2. under WOT the a/f ratio usually was 11.2 all the way up to red line. now it tapers off to about 11.8 at redline with the new map. is this normal?

2) The 11.2 is a mad-rich map until Jeff can put the fine-tune/finishing touches on your particular A/Fs and it is normal.

^ Charles #2 got me you said 11.2 is crazy rich just curious whats jeffs target AFR when he tunes or jeff can answer just curious I guess mid 11's is pretty conservative.

You have only made one submission. v4.0.1 contains no tuning - just adjustments to your MAF for fuel trim.
Not "normal", but typical.
Your submissions are coming in with very little fuel trim, so something else is probably going on.
For turbo, this is normal. In the end, we will want your AFRs to be just above the minimum the WBO2S will read (which is 11.2:1).
I like to see the numbers to be pointed in the direction of 11.8:1 by 4500 RPM and stay there.

I sent an email requesting a new map about a month ago but it was for NA and I dont need it anymore. I will be installing the supercharger over the next few weeks. Can you send me a base FI map instead or should I resubmit now? All the injector, maf and ignition info will be the same as my NA submission request.
Thanks
Thanks

Because my current map I am only around 10.5-11.00 in boost range. Charles made a comment to another customer who is FI via turbo who is running 11.2 afr in boost and he said they are "mad-rich" so i must be mad mad rich and i though i was ok (because i dont know any better and have been learning myself) so i asked what your target AFR was when you tune to which a customer pointed me in the correct direction... I do have the MM calibration service from you as i purchased my AP in February from you and i will start utilizing your service once i resolve and issue I have so i was asking what the goal you shoot for in AFR was on your final tune. I havent loaded your map and taken advantage of my calibration service with you and when i eventually do i will want to compare your tune thats why sooo. I dont wish to crap up your thread with my explanation i was just asking a question i got my answer from another board member above.

Gotcha.
Target AFRs are not a static number.
It depends on how much airflow your motor is using and what else is going on in your setup.
For instance, on my own car, my "target" AFR at 6k RPM is 10.9:1.
But that is at 400 g/sec of flow.
At the 300 g/sec mark and the same RPM, my target is 11.5:1.
This is the beauty of mass flow based tuning.
We no longer just say "I shoot for 11:1 in boost". Boost is meaningless, just like horsepower.

^ Thanks for the explaination and thats why i need to enroll in your seminar lol. I wish i had logged my innovative wideband via laptop i made a few runs and logged 441 g/sec but have no idea what my afr was because the AP doesnt read that low and i cant remember it says 11.17 and i know thats not right.....im getting sucked into this tuning world i started having rotating rotor dreams......

Have you checked your folder?
There is also an FI "base" calibration in there with the bigger P2s as well.
It begins in less than 4 weeks!

****, I checked that probably a few days before but never bothered again because I didnt get an email.
Well thanks, I feel kind of stupid at the moment.
Would it be benifical to tune the vehicle while NA to get some of the maf calibrations done or should I not bother until I put the supercharger on? Considering its the same maf and injector set up, just curious.

Just check back there from time to time if you feel you aren't getting updates.
I send out a few dozen e-mails a day and I try to use the addresses in my database, but things still get crossed up from time to time.
When you switch to the SC, load the FI v4.0 INJ MOD calibration and start over.
The MAF will be all jacked up compared to the N/A calibration, anyway.

Don't worry about it.

Well, "beneficial" is sorta ambiguous. If you are going to run the v4.0.1 INJ MOD, we can continue to trim it for your N/A setup.
When you switch to the SC, load the FI v4.0 INJ MOD calibration and start over.
The MAF will be all jacked up compared to the N/A calibration, anyway.

Thanks again, and I hope the nor cal/sf bay area dyno thing hasnt died completly. I plan to work on it next week, I would like to make it happen.

Hey Jeff just went out data logging.. just one question i don't think this has been asked..
I have a meth injection kit installed on the car but i forgot to unplug it the battery to turn it off.. soooo when i did my WOT runs it was spraying..
Would that make any difference if i wanted to tune without meth injection????

Jeff mentioned in his map notification email that my fuel trims were fairly large (which was why my idle was problematic until the trims got re-learned). I don't believe my MAF sensor has ever been cleaned. From checking on the boards it doesn't sound like a difficult process as long as I take special care.
So I guess I'm just wondering ... clean? or don't clean? :
