now the only question will be if the ransome was worth it.....because i can assure you i know of some local shops that would have done it for less and have done the same kit i believe for less and in less time.....

You can have it fast, cheap, or done properly ....they are not going to happen at the same time.
Get your shop to step up and see what happens...
We have seen very little in RX-8 development despite quite a few very dramatic announcements..........
We know which camp a few of you are in.......
Play nice....

hey Vic
why dont you tell Roland to stop off at EVO on the way home...
put it on a real dyno that will go to 850 whp...and let John tweak the tune
Nelson would love to help ya!!

You definitely have my sympathy. If you're ever in Central Florida, I'll buy the drinks.

There's zip that is black and white regarding an argument on an internet forum. Especially when the main participants are the ones that are friends with the customer.
I remember reading with interest a while back all your feedback on Pettit and their SC install. And how happy you were, etc...etc...etc...
Having been around rotary engines and this community for the past 11 years, the horror stories I could tell about Pettit would've made you think twice before ever shipping your car to them. But to that point, by now I honestly can't name a prominent rotary shop in North America that I haven't heard horror stories about. And after all of it, I'd still send my car to Mazsport or Pettit.

Just a note about my car to set the record absolutely straight.... it did run great when I got the car back from FL. Scott tuned my car quite well, and it ran amazing on the Tank of FL91. I beat the living crap outta my car at 13lbs of boost no knock no ping nothing just pure 353hp of driving bliss.
When I started using CA fuel... that is when the issues showed up. I blew my car about 6 weeks after its return from FL. Was I pissed... yah... is it because of the ignition.... only if you consider the fact that my engine didn't blow out the spark above 330HP any more.
Was Scott's tune bad? Nope... it just wasn't the right tune for a car running on CA gas. I can prove that because, as I stated, I drove the hell out of that car on FL 91 octane and it ran GRRRRRREAT! GuitarJunkie used to say... you can run 11.8-12.1 just about anywhere else in the nation, but in CA you probably want to keep it closer to 11.1-11.3AFR. Scott actually did stick it about 11.5-11.8 which is a pretty conservative tune. The only issue I had was the transition into WOT when slamming on the GAS after shifting (heh heh car is pretty damn fast)
As pissed as I was when my engine blew... I had a hard time blaming Scott. Had it blown or had any issues at all right when I got it back, that would be one thing. But since I didn't have any issues UNTIL I starting having to use CA gas, it is hard to blame Scott or the IGN solution.
Also, I am not sure everyone who is posting here about there "terrible" experience is being completely open and honest about what all went down. There certainly seems to be a few details about what happened that have not been disclosed that might change the way things look a little bit. I will be the first to tell you that when I had my car there, they really lacked the ability to deliver a car in a period of time that one might expect. I was pretty pissed about the wait. I doubt the issue is as bad now as it was when I was dealing with them... as they have staffed up and seem to be a bit more responsive.
Long story short, don't use my car as an example to further your own motives, without disclosing everything. Because someone certainly did. Reread my dead renny thread again, and you will see I posted the same things there that I did here.

yessir, this being a show car and all or whatever, I would have used that cash for paint/interior/suspension long before engine upgrades, ****, most of the shows I go to people don't even clean their engines much less pop the hood or show them off In any case, someone spent a shitload of money on something that took longer than expected, won't be the first time that happens or the last, if homedude got the car back, let's /thread and move on to the next great 8club dramafest...wherever that may be, and let this thing die already.
Me personally, I can't see what all the fuss is about, then again I've never had 15-20k laying around waiting to be spent on a turbo, because if I did, that fact alone would make me so f-in happy that even if the work did take a year I probably wouldn't even care.

I don't know the complete list of what Vic and Roland had done to their car but I know from my turbo project that the $17k price tag does not seem outlandish to me assuming the results are show quality. It's 10k for the kit right up front and at least 32 hours of labor in addition to that for just the kit install. Now, those two things don't add up to 17k (probably 4k short), but it could be a lot of things. A clutch/flywheel parts+install could be 1500. Did they get charged for the ignition solution or was that one of the free upgrades. The cannisters are a couple hundred bucks. Did they get charged for dyno time? I hope not as the dyno broke. Did they get gauges or gauge pod work to complement the kit? Starting with a stage 2 Mazsport kit, I could build a parts list and installation time that I would expect to pay $17k for. What I don't know is how much Vic and Roland had done. So the price should be balanced out. When it's all said and done, my turbo install (type 1) could probably be totalled out to $15k and I'm not building a show car.
Now, if they have an invoice for a t2 kit and just installation and were charged 7k labor despite the recommended installation time, that would be ridiculous (and that might be the case). I very much hope to see this car at rotorjam if it goes to see what 380 whp looks like. Mazsport isn't really actively participating in this thread so I don't see this reaching any sort of resolution.
At least people will have a somewhat complete idea of what can happen.

Its interesting how a small hand full of people try to taint a quality company... If I am not correct one of the major reasons the sc guys and girls were even able to take there cars home when they did was because of Mazsport.
Its very easy to talk trash about a company when you don't even know what there quality is like. I expect that some people will change there minds after they see the car in person. The detail, care, quality, and ingenuity that has gone into that car is beyond anything you guys have seen on an 8. I am not sure how much experience some of you have with performance companies but there are only a few that produce high quality products and Mazsport is among them.
I believe this thread was for Roland to vent on not everyone else to chime in on a company that they probably don't have any experience with. I have multiple products from them and I am more impressed with each one that I purchase.
