If Mazda have a chance to passing an emission rules than 16x NA engine enough for Rx-8 with 4 seats.. But If it is not they shouldn't produce Rx-7 with 4 seats because Rx-7's have 4 seats too... Some spec's only has 2 seats. Now in this point i want Mazda to produce Roadster Rotary only 2 seats enough place for 2 seats and lightweight, enough engine.. Mazda engineers kg hp calculation determine the new RX model going to produce new Rx-7 Rx-8 or Rx-9 roadster

As long as the base/sport model is in the high 39's low 40's I'll be happy. Same trim as with the 8. No traction and stability controls, no sunroof. Just car and driver.

As much as i want Mazda to bring back the RX7, i have my doubts as to whether it will happen. They have promised things in the past and failed to deliver.

They do not have the money to develop the rotary engine to the levels required for it to enter modern-day production standards, and even if the 'special catalyst' idea works, you can bet it will still drink petrol like there's no tomorrow!!!

I still hope they build a new RX7, but maybe with a piston engine that is more efficient and easier to work on.

This car would have to be absolutely mind blowing to justify anything over 35k.

Based on what has been said thus far, I think it's reasonable to assume it will cost more than RX-8's did. What do you define mind blowing as? I don't think there are many new cars that qualify for that in the 40k range anyway. I don't think it's absurd to imagine Mazda making a sports car that could be justified in that price range. We'll just have to wait and see!

Do this and it will be a success. Miss any of these points and it will fail. And it matters not how many seats...2,3 ,4....I don't care!

I will buy this car.
Well, it will miss point #4 for sure. I understand your argument on #4, but I don't see it happening AT ALL. Selling a brand new car without a radio? No way. It ain't happening.

The no navigation option is more feasible. But no radio? That would be a marketing disaster.

I agree. I use my nav almost every week. It is a very useful tool to have, Now day in a car, and I do get mad went I have to use my portable one on my other cars that don't have it built in. Next car has to have one, to like my Rx8 GT!!!;-)

Mazda makes such great chassis, I really wish they'd offer the next 7 in RX and MX trim, so they can appeal to the mass markets with a piston engine and offer a rotary engine to people who care.

Anyway, my RX-8 will be 8 years old then, so I'll be waiting a few years longer to replace it. That should give them time to work out the bugs.

Some people want the ultimate rotary sports car. Others want an affordable rotary sports car. You are lumping the two groups into one in a way that would make a political pundit proud.

If they keep the car simple and stay away from unneeded gadgets the price shouldn't get too out of control.

The problem with that is government regulations. First it was seat belts. Then it was bumpers and air bags. Now some require ABS & TSC now. Soon, automatic radar controlled brakes will also be required. Each one of these gadgets adds to the cost of the car. Governments want to micro-manage the driving experience in the name of safety.

What is it with you and the political comparisons? Anytime someone makes an argument you tell them they sound like a politician. Guess what, there appear to be an awful lot of people who want the ultimate rotary sports car at an economy car price. Those are typically the vocal majority in the rotary community. They always have been. That would be nice but it is unrealistic.

It would be neat though. Given our car's depreciation if the rx7 came out cheap one would be able to attain a used one AND some money from the former owner to take it home...

Mazda already has a cheap sportscar in the mx5, a flagship car would be the way to go design wise.

I was more referring to things like, Navi, high end sound systems, power seats/mirrors/windows/locks, DSC and sun roofs. Although most of those are options in packages when you buy a car.

I can do without TSC but I love me some abs.

Even if the new RX-7 costs $50,000....IT WILL sell.

Don't forget about the purist guys on the RX7club.com. They have been like an organized cult of hungry piranhas, waiting for almost two decades for the RX-7 to come back.

Those guys will buy the car at ANY price.

Manufacturers always have to consider how to keep things fresh and attract people to buy NEW product from them. When a new model comes out with 10s to 100s of millions (Sometimes more than a billion) being spent, they need to make sure, as best they can that the market is there (Enough people wanting to put down money on fresh new stuff).

Mazda has a predicament in that a high percentage of their buyers are seeking budget products as a primary factor. If the car is good enough then they may not be ready to upgrade to the next model. A lot of their potential audience is only wanting to buy used due to budget mindset.

One strategy is to always keep something super fresh in the wings. I call this the 'Apple' method although all the big computer and technology companies do it. They can have stuff 2 or more stages away that are ready enough but not in terms of the market cycle so it is kept until the right time. Apple has convinced it's audience that they MUST have the latest one or they're not quite hip enough.

Mazda can work on changing it's image (At least slightly) so that they grab more of a upmarket and trendy clientele who spend without pinching as hard . This is why I keep saying they need to grab some of the Volkswagen people away in their sedan segments. As far as rotary sports cars go, when they got to the ultimate, the twin turbo FD, they screwed it up. You cannot have that many quality issues if you're going to compete against Porsche and others. You cannot have so many interior rattles, fuel flooding, engine fires, automatic headlamp lid departures, poor paint, lame leather etc.

They can do it. They know how to build quality cars and they know how to do rear wheel drive sports cars that handle well. Watch out Porsche Cayman .

Paul.

News on new Miata/MX-5....it will use the CX-5 and new Mazda 6 architecture.

Mr Yamamoto told GoAuto the car (new Miata) will sit on a modified version of existing architecture used for the CX-5 SUV and Mazda6 sedan.

New Miata/MX-5 will be evolutionary not revolutionary in design/look.!!
