Practice Two - Red Bulls split by Alonso
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlin...0/7/11094.html
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlin...0/7/11094.html
To begin with it was Red Bull team mates Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber who slogged it out for fastest time as the second free practice session got underway at the Hungaroring on Friday afternoon, but as the 90 minutes progressed Ferrari got into the act too, with Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa posting fast times.
In the end Vettel aced everyone with 1m 20.087s, which was 0.497s faster than Alonso’s best of 1m 20.584s which just beat Webber’s 1m 20.597s. Massa was fourth with 1m 20.986s.
Behind them the ongoing surprise of the session was Vitaly Petrov’s 1m 21.195s for Renault, which left him ahead of Lewis Hamilton who was much happier with the balance of his McLaren and took it round in 1m 21.308s to Robert Kubica’s 1m 21.375s in the second Renault.
Nico Hulkenberg was Williams’ faster runner with 1m 21.623s, then came Jenson Button on 1m 21.730s in the second McLaren, Michael Schumacher in the lead Mercedes on 1m 21.773s, Pedro de la Rosa’s BMW Sauber on 1m 21.809s and Rubens Barrichello in the second Williams on 1m 21.844s.
Nico Rosberg had a troubled day as he did not break 1m 22.039s in the second Mercedes, while Kamui Kobayashi got the prize for the most off-track moments of the day in his BMW Sauber on his way to 1m 22.212s. Jaime Alguersuari ran 1m 22.469s to lead Toro Rosso, ahead of Adrian Sutil who was still sorting out the Force India with its blown diffuser as he posted 1m 22.507s, and Sebastien Buemi who lapped the second Toro Rosso in 1m 22.602s.
Force India’s Vitantonio Liuzzi got going in his VJM03, which does not have the new diffuser, and set a best of 1m 23.138s which left him only 18th, ahead of Jarno Trulli on 1m 24.553s for Lotus, Timo Glock in the lead Virgin on 1m 25.376s, team mate Lucas di Grassi on 1m 25.669s, and the well matched HRTs of Bruno Senna and Sakon Yamamoto on 1m 26.745s and 1m 26.798s respectively.
Heikki Kovalainen did 1m 27.795s, but was then struck down by mechanical gremlins on his Lotus.

McLaren struggling to match rivals in Hungary
The Hungarian grand prix looks set to be a fight between Red Bull and Ferrari.
Championship leaders McLaren were more than a second off the pace during Friday practice at the twisty Hungaroring.
"We're losing quite a bit of time in the middle sector, and a couple of tenths in the first and third sectors, too," admitted Lewis Hamilton.
Red Bull were untouchable in the morning, and easily fastest again in the afternoon, but Sebastian Vettel said he expects a strong challenge from Ferrari.
"On the long runs, the times were quite similar," said the German.
Hockenheim winner Fernando Alonso, second fastest in the afternoon but with a half-second deficit to Vettel, agreed.
"We are confident the difference is not as big as it seems, but obviously they (Red Bull) seem stronger than Hockenheim in a way," said the Ferrari driver.
And Mark Webber is not ruling out the McLarens.
"We shouldn't forget them; they have proven many times this year that they can make a step forward from Friday to Saturday," said the Australian.

Maybe Alonso will pass Vettel (note correct spelling Alfy). I predict Webber will come out of the first turn as number 4 or 5 since that side is horrible to start on. Both Alonso and Hamilton will pass Webber, thats what I predict.

LOl thanks. Btw if Vettel F up the start tomorrow, is it safe that we vote him for the worse driver of the decade, for the top tier teams?

Kobayashi given five-place grid drop
Kamui Kobayashi has been slapped with a five-place grid penalty after he ran a red light in the pits during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Sauber driver was knocked out of Q1 after a disappointing lap and on his return to the pits he missed a red light indicating that he should stop at scrutineering for a mandatory weighing. The stewards stuck to the letter of the rules, issuing a five-place grid drop that will force him to start Sunday's race from the back row of the grid.
In his defence Kobayashi said: "I obviously went past a red light in the pit lane and missed going to the FIA scales. I just didn't see it."

Latest Attempt By Another U.S.-Based Team To Enter Formula One Fails
The American outfit Cypher Group has pulled out of the running to race in formula one next year.
The group had applied for the 13th 2011 team entry and was reportedly in talks with American driver Jonathan Summerton and possibly also Nelson Piquet Jr.
It had also emerged that former Brawn engineer Steve Brown, who previously worked on the similarly failed USF1 project, was part of the Cypher effort.
But after Nicolas Todt's ART outfit also pulled out of the running, and Bernie Ecclestone's insistence that any new team pay a EUR19 million deposit, Cypher has admitted it does not have the money to race in 2011.
"After much deliberation we have decided that the budget we have is not sufficient to allow us to pursue the project in a manner befitting the series," read the statement.

Brilliant drive from Vettel in the start. I think he was the fastest driver/car in the field today. Stunning drive from Webber too who kept pressing the last out of those optionals. However he was slightly off Vettel's pace this weekend.
Really a shame for Vettel with the restart after the safety car. He apparently had radio problems and had not gotten info from the team that the car was going in on that lap. So he was caught totally unawares when Webber sped up and since he got more than 10 car lengths behind he was given a drive through penalty. Harsh, but the rules are there for a reason and this was only bad luck that there was a radio issue.
He gave Webber his first place there and Alonso was also given his second place. Although Alonso had to work not to get passed by Vettel later in the race. Vettel demonstrated the raw speed of the Red Bull by dropping behind in the end and putting in fastest lap on the last lap.
No it was a brilliant drive from red bull that easily should have been 1-2 but unfortunately became 1-3 due to the radio...
Also there was a very ugly move by Schumi on Barrichello. Too ugly and he should get penalized for what he did. He tried to really ram Barichello into the wall. Not only move up close to the wall but he really pressed Barichello further. Luckily the wall ended and the exit of the pit lane came up giving Barichello more running room. Otherwise there would have been an accident.
