Piquet is still hoping for a comeback... I really think he burned all his bridges with F1 though.

Nelson Piquet Jr hopes to continue his Formula One career with the Campos team when the Spanish outfit enters the sport in 2010, but admits that he might not fit the profile team bosses are looking for.

Fellow countryman Bruno Senna has been confirmed as a Campos driver next season, and the prospect of having two famous family names such as Senna and Piquet teaming up is more than enough to stir up good memories within Brazil's passionate F1 fans.

"I would be absolutely delighted, it would be marvellous for the Brazilian public," Piquet said, as reported by France's Auto Hebdo. "All depends on the team now, but they seem to be looking for a Spanish driver."

The former Renault team member was speaking from the fifth annual International Challenge of Stars karting event, which Felipe Massa – another fellow Brazilian – organises.

Volkswagen Considering Formula 1 Participation

WOLFSBURG, Germany — As Formula 1 reels from the loss of three participating auto manufacturers in the past 12 months, Volkswagen is considering its first venture into the world's premier form of motorsport.

VW representative Hans-Joachim Stuck told Autosport magazine the company would not be interested in becoming a partner with a team but would consider acting as an engine supplier for customer teams.

Between December 2008 and November 4 of this year, Honda, BMW and Toyota all quit the sport. All three fielded works teams representing their brands.

However, at least three new teams will join competition next season. As many as 26 or even 28 cars may be competing in 2010, compared with 20 in 2009.

Stuck confirmed that an expanded F1 grid creates opportunities for engine suppliers and that VW would be interested, but not before 2012, he asserted.

Stuck compared the expansion to the days when he was a racing driver.

"I followed Formula 1 for the last seven years with BMW, and I always asked myself on the grid, with only 20 cars, what if we could have 30 cars? Now we're getting back to this," he told Autosport.

Inside Line says: Stuck insists that auto manufacturers should concentrate on developing engines rather than fielding factory teams in racing. — David Green, Correspondent

So Renault has been allowed to field a team and provide engines? I'm guessing Virgin is no longer a Brawn sponsor? Any word on a tire (Tyre) supplier as yet?

Paul.

Massa: Hi alnoso, want to come ride for a charity event?

Alsono: Hell no!

Massa: but its for a noble cause

Alsonso: are points involved? Do i also get a world championship trophy?

Massa : um lol what? its for a charity event.

Alsonso: will you let me get 1st place?

Massa : lmao, dude just dont come.

http://www.worldcarfans.com/10911302...ace-invitation

Felipe Massa has revealed that he invited his 2010 Ferrari teammate Fernando Alonso to contest the weekend's charity kart race International Challenge of the Stars.

The event, won for the second time by Michael Schumacher, was also contested by F1 figures including Rubens Barrichello, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Nelson Piquet and Lucas di Grassi.

Massa, who flew by plane back to Sao Paulo after the race because his wife is imminently expecting their baby, said he wanted Spaniard Alonso to feature on the 2009 entry list.

"I invited Alonso to come here," he is quoted as saying by the Spanish news agency EFE. "Not only this year, but also in previous years.

"I hope he sees it is an interesting competition and that next year he comes," Massa, 28, added.

Some of Massa's more recent comments have indicated that Ferrari's new Latin lineup is likely to be a fiery one, but the Brazilian said he thinks he and Alonso will share a "good relationship away from the tracks".

"Alonso is a great driver, everybody knows that," he continued. "I believe we can be the best pairing in the championship."

But Massa, while insisting Alonso will be "good for the team", does not think the double world champion's arrival will change his own status within Ferrari.

"I don't think Alonso changes anything on my side or within Ferrari," he said.

It looks like Bridgestone is in it for the 2010 season. It's the 2011 and beyond that is up for grabs.

Multiple tires? yes but they have to have the possibility to design the cars on the new tires or we will see other discrepancies between a team or another.
This would require more tests!

As in Ferrari & Bridgestone or McLaren & Michelin?
I don't like the idea. As I said before, tire wars lead to tires that leave behind crud off line. That prevents passing. With the refueling ban, they should make them race with tires that will finish the event.

You're right in that regard but this would force two manufacturers to split the costs and engineer some good tires!
The problem with not knowing the tire's specs is that you can build the best car in the world but it will eventually drive like crap and finish behind crappy car that like that particular rubber.
With testing bans etc chaning the manufacturer is a major issue!

Sauber secures final 2010 grid slot

Sauber has been granted the final place on next year’s Formula 1 grid – finally securing the team’s future after months of uncertainty in the wake of BMW’s withdrawal from the sport.

After the planned sale to investment group Qadbak fell through, BMW announced last Friday that it had sold the Hinwil-based squad back to its founder Peter Sauber, but the deal was contingent on the team being guaranteed an entry in next year’s world championship.

BMW had initially forfeited its place when it declined to sign the new Concorde Agreement – committing teams to F1 until 2012 – but Toyota’s announcement last month that it would be quitting the sport with immediate effect appeared to have handed it a lifeline.

Sauber was still in limbo, however, as the FIA stated on Monday that Toyota had yet to extract itself from its contractual obligations.

There were reports that the Japanese manufacturer might try to sell on its entry in a bid to avoid any legal ramifications, possibly to Serbian organisation Stefan GP, which was one of the teams rejected by the FIA in the initial decision over 2010 entries six months ago.

But Toyota has instead relinquished its entry and the FIA confirmed on Thursday that it has handed the coveted 13th slot to Sauber.

“The FIA has written to inform BMW Sauber AG that their application for an entry in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship has been successful,” said a statement from the governing body.

“Subject to their signing the Concorde Agreement, BMW Sauber will be awarded the 13th entry in the championship, taking the place of the departing Toyota team.

“The FIA has worked closely with the Commercial Rights Holder and the teams involved over recent weeks and is grateful for their support in achieving the best outcome for the sport.

“An updated Formula 1 entry list will be published in due course.”

Raikkonen signs switch to WRC with Citroën

Ex-Formula One world champion Kimi Raikkonen will compete for Citroen in the World Rally Championship next season, the team announced Friday. After leaving Ferrari at the end of 2009, the 2007 champion will compete in rallies for Citroen's Red Bull-backed Junior Team in 2010.

"For the moment we have a one-year contract and we will see how it goes for the future," Raikkonen said in a statement. "I am really looking forward to testing the car and taking the start of the first rally."

Raikkonen already took part in one WRC race in 2009 during a break between F1 races, and had long been an enthusiast of a sport that has a strong pedigree of Finnish champions. Next year he will be able to compete in all rallies, except for the Rally of New Zealand, one that his team is not competing in.

Raikkonen will partner French driver Sebastien Ogier in the Citroen Junior Team next year.

"I always wanted to compete in rally, especially in the World Rally Championship at some point in my career," said Raikkonen. "Thanks to Red Bull, I have the opportunity to drive the best car of the series with the Citroen C4. This is a new but very exciting challenge."

Following confirmation of his departure from Ferrari, Raikkonen and his management were involved in talks about a move back to his former team McLaren. However McLaren ultimately signed 2009 world champion Jenson Button to partner Lewis Hamilton in 2010.

Raikkonen said he was not prepared to join a weaker team, and elected to take a sabbatical from F1 in 2010, holding out the possibility of a quick return the following season.

I never saw the racer hitting the safety car before. It must have happened during a practice session that wasn't televised here.

O.T. If you liked the music in that video, you will probably LOL at this one.

Renault board juggles offers for F1 team

Renault's management will make a call next week on how to offload its beleaguered F1 team into private hands.

Renault has long been thought of as the manufacturer most likely to pull the plug on its F1 program, but it has remained involved as Honda, BMW and Toyota all withdrew from the sport.

The Piquet cheating scandal has done little for the company's image, but it's thought that Renault did not want to be seen making a hasty retreat in the aftermath of the affair. However, what it did do was block what has always been the most likely exit scenario--Renault handing the team, or selling it for a nominal amount, to Flavio Briatore.

The French company is considering two proposals, one from David Richards of Prodrive and one from the Genii Capital Group, run by Luxembourg-based entrepreneur Gerard Lopez. Richards ran the team in its Benetton days for a brief period before Briatore returned to favor. He has been looking for a way to have his own entry but has been keen to do it at a sensible cost. Richards also runs Aston Martin and is expected to rebrand the team after two more years with Renault power. He has strong backing from Kuwait.

Genii has investments in a variety of fields and made business headlines in the United States earlier this year with a failed bid to buy the bankrupt Polaroid company. Lopez also runs Gravity Sports Management, a company that manages a group of promising young drivers including Adrien Tambay, Ho-Pin Tung (who tested for Renault this week) and Jerome d'Ambrosio.

It's said that the team in Enstone favors the Richards bid, while Paris prefers the Genii offer.
