Subaru offers several cars with the same unique engine as each other. Rotary needs to come out of the 'odd' zone to make sense and be successful. Keeping it in only one chassis does not help that cause.

Paul.
Like many here I lived through the Rotary and Banger share models put out by Mazda in the 70's and 80's, Capella 1600/RX-2,808/RX-3,929/RX-4,121/RX-5.

Unfortunately Mazda then and now became the victim of high gas consumption/prices, and now the 8 has the Unreliability tag..(Just wait until the 8 year warranty expires).

While I think Mazda could do two separate rotaries on the same chassis, like a MX/RX-5,it would have some appeal. But, the 4/2 door appeal of the RX-8 is what made it sell in the numbers it did, I am not so sure if it was only a 2 door sales would have been as good.

CEO has already said their will Only be two sports cars at Mazda.

Mazda will never make the rotary Mainstream like 30 years ago...it just won't happen.

Frankly, Mazda Blew it yet again by NOT keeping the Middle Oil Nozzle, this was their biggest mistake with Renny 1.

So yet again, because of a few dollars or whatever, ANY goodwill with a "new generation" of rotary owners has been killed.

Strangely enough I think there are tons of people out there that don't really know what kind of engine their car has. I'm not going to argue one way or another as to weather Mazda can sell another rotary car to the masses but if it somehow is made to appear more reliable then it could IMO have sales within reason. Again I will say that I'm not going to argue that it's possible that Mazda has buried the rotaries reputation with the 1st Renesis. I will state lastly on the topic of engines that are percieved to be unreliable that the 4G63 seemed to recover fair enough from the crank walk issue.

As far as the CEO stating that they will only sell 2 sports cars...maybe it's simply a play on words. You can have perfomance cars that are not the "stereotypical" sports cars. A lot of people don't consider the Evo, STI, 135, 335, M5, CTS-V, Camaro, Mustang, Focus RS, SRT-4, etc "sports" cars but they are "performance" cars. We are all speculating about the power the 16x will make but the 2nd rotary could be a "performance" car with the right power or chassis. Just some thoughts!

I agree. MPS version of 3&6 (mazdaspeed in US) never been considered "true sportcars" by Mazda executives, just "sport versions".

axed the Mazdaspeed6 there is room enough for a 4 door (or similar arrangment) sport "sedan"

You just made me think of a recent thread! There was a thread recently in which there was a suspected rotary mule. The mule was a 6...some argued that there is no way that the mule was a rotary for multitudes of reasons. Now the revelation that there may be a 4 door rotary makes me think a little. This doesn't validate the rumored mule but it still makes me wonder.

think that mule was "simply" the renewed Mazda6 euro-spec (with €5 compliant engines), but the success of sales of rx-8 IMHO also depends by the 4 adults seat arrangement and the "4" doors.

i think that Mazda executives have thinked about those things developing next-gen rotaries.

So, my cousin's uncle's room mate's plumber told me that the RX-7 will have a sequential twin-turbo diesel Renesis with sideplates made from forged unobtanium and that the RX-9 will replace the Mazda6 and run twin Borg Worner K03 turbos in parallel to force feed the 16x.

Both will weigh under 1.35 US tons and be rated PZEV.

Honest, that's what they told me and they heard it from a janitor at Mazda's skunkworks office in Irvine.

Plus, im sure the company is swaying from that look if im not mistaken.

Honestly i am not worried at all about the next car. If the car looks ugly i dont care. I will wait for a totaled new RX and then grab the engine. Swap it in my 8 if anything, throw some FI in there and turn my 8 into what it should have been.

I don't like the direction mazda is going style wise. It looks more and more like a plastic toy.

If Mazda do launch it, I wouldn't be too worried about how it looks but it better pack a punch to knock out competitors. As of now the idea of burning more fuel on daily basis while still getting out-accelerated by family sedans doesn't sound good at all in marketing sense. Wouldn't mind Mazda taking the F&F route i.e. Fast and Fugly and please lose that stupid smile at the front bumper.

They aren't going to completely redesign them already, since they just got reskinned. It will all change come the next take.
