Hey Karl, thanks for the thread bump, and welcome to the thread!

I'm gonna have to seriously start looking into autoxracing.com. I've been meaning to get involved for a while, but work always has me so busy! If I get time off this summer, I'll definitely have to swing buy some events!

Looking forward to seeing some 8's out there. This weekend was gorgeous, and it's looking even better for the week

Unfortunately, I won't have my car out of storage until mid-June. Going away for more army training. Though, I think if the weather holds, I'll be able to take her out for a quick spin and get her juices flowing I miss my baby!

Hope everyone else gets out and starts showing of their rides. Let's get the Rotary scene back into Winnipeg!!!

2 days ago I pulled the 8 out of the garage and sparked her up for the first time since last fall. Started first pull... LOL

I love that engine...

^Congrats! Did you take her for a spin? I'm skeptical driving through all this salty and possibly bottomless, potholed water lol. Hopefully the weather remains nice for the weekend, so I can pull Roxy out of hibernation.
I'll have a look at the forecast. Maybe get a quick meet on Sunday?

Sunday no longer works for me. Sometimes, it's a pain working in the military, where you get no overtime, no time off, and no opinion. I hear CN rail is hiring...

That said, I will be taking Roxy out of storage next week! Only for a week, but that will give me some time to reacquaint
That said, I'll probably be doing a bit of cruising around next week, if anyone wants to join.

What color is yours, TSR? How was driving in the last bit of snow we had?
I have only seen 1, and it made my heart skip a beat! Can't wait until next week...

EDIT: Also, if anyone has any inside info on Mazdaspeed items for sale, (as well as other goodies), please read my {WTB} thread! https://www.rx8club.com/canada-sale-wanted-147/ms-spoiler-underspoiler-lotek-pod-mics-gauges-etc-230533/

^Haven't seen you driving around. Although, I haven't been around much lol.

I pulled Roxy out of storage today! Just put in the VooDoo shift ****, and man that thing feels nice in the palm!
I was also gonna give her a good wash, but I don't think the weather is gonna cooperate for very long

Hopefully, all of her "new clothes" will be here by the time I get back from training (mid June). I can't wait to give her a make-over...

And last, I think I'm going to try to organize a meet for June/July. I'll have to find out where I'm being posted for the summer, but if anyone has any recommendations for that, feel free to post them here. I'll also get something going on winnipegheights dot com.

Happy Rotar'ing!

Driving since last fall has been a pleasant experience. The main toll has been to my brake calipers. Just cosmetic along with a couple larger stone chips in other areas.

The car its self has been love/hate. Drives great but it has quirks. Had to buy a new jack, my old one doesn't fit under the car for the proper jacking spots.

Coolant is possibly leaking. Whenever the temperature outside flips I am suddenly empty on coolant or it's a coincidence and just drips over about 3-4 weeks time. The broken temperature control circuit was frustrating but only a 30min fix. Upside down oil filter in such a terrible location kills me. 1st gear sometimes locks going from neutral to 1st at a light/stop. It creaks in the cabin but music fixes that.

I'll probably pull the radio again and solder a ipod connection this month. I just hate having to lose radio or CD function while gaining stereo connection.

I'll most likely buy another one in a year from now. It's ridiculous how much you learn from little to large about cars after owning them. I am also confident I could handle a private sale and weed out the issue cars MUCH better than previously.

My only dislike about driving it; sometimes I go to merge in heavy traffic into a small fast spot and lack the acceleration my old car had but that's more of a going from forced induction to N/A and my previous couldn't handle nearly as well. The low ride and overall suspension of this car is amazing.

I'll try and go to the May 27 meet. It would be nice to sit in and listen to other RX8s and their owners. Collective knowledge is so much better than figuring **** out on my own.

Well fellow Winnipeg Rotorheads, I'm back for (what looks like to be) the whole summer! Not very pleased with the weather, thus far. Nor with the outlook for the next week...
But, I'm an optimistic kinda guy

It's hard not to be optimistic, when I come home after 10 weeks to find these waiting for me
https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...9&postcount=50
https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...6&postcount=52

So, I should be busy over the next few weeks, trying to get all of this installed! The only down side- I'll have to endure not driving the 8 while she's getting her makeover

As long as the weather cooperates, I'm thinking of having a meet within the next few weeks. If anyone has any dates on a Sunday (preferably) they're available for, let us know here and we can schedule something that works for everyone!

I've noticed a number of 8's around that I haven't seen before. So, if you see one around, drop a note guiding them to these forums (and this thread)!

Last quote I got to fix and paint should be $500. However, that was at the body shop that my dealer recommended, sooo...
That said, I actually have a pretty good relationship with the dealership, so I don't think it's that bad lol

Welcome to the thread, Nick!
Parting with the car is sad, come winter time. But, at least we keep the miles down, and we appreciate her that much more, come summer

Feel free to post some pics! It would be great to put a "face" to a car

Hey all,

Soldier pointed me to this thread from my tech question. Never knew this existed till now.

I've owned my 8 since the fall of 2007, it's a red 2004 GT. Few mods; shocks, air filter insert, wider rubber.

Soldier, you asked me where i race. I do autoX through the winnipeg sports car club. Been doing it for some time now. Evolv and i started at the same time (different cars back then). Not sure if anyone else on this forum has been out, but there have been a few other 8s out there.

You can check out the club at Winnipeg Sports Car Club | 60 Years of Motorsport and can register for events at www.styckyd.com

I dont spend a lot of time onthis forum, but will check back from time to time to see whats up. Hope to see some of you out there racing.

Hi guys, I'm not officially part of this thread but I just picked up on it as my son now lives in Winnipeg with his wife and baby son. I'll be over in the next couple of years so I will try to meet and greet when it happens. Cheers, Stephen.

Thumbs up

What's up Winnipeg?! Glad to see a few more members have popped up over the last year!
Karl- I'll need to get in touch with you regarding WSCC evets
WpgDSMer- Did you attend a lot of events this year?
Stephen T- Why did your son pick our small neck of the woods to bring his wife and child? If you ever get down here, let us know so we can show you our "Friendly Manitoba" scenery

On to a story that requires no pity, congrats or any other type of sentiment. Just want to share, as I know others have been through this, in some way or another...

I'm not sure if anyone here knows my story for the past year, but I figured this would be the place to tell it:

In the summer of 2012 (July), I was driving home from work with my newly installed (used) Mazdaspeed front bumper (I had sold my Ti Grey and purchased a Stormy Blue to help out a member...), when a lady decided to try to beat rush hour traffic. The thing is- she panicked when she saw me, slammed on her brakes and I ended up in her passenger side. Here is a pic of the damage...

d5e8c54d-50dc-416a-992e-2398a97929c4.jpg?t=1378442044

The experience alone wasn't too terrible. Sure, the car was damaged. But, I was covered, and no one was seriously injured.

Long story short- after a year an more of contemplating selling my car, endlessly searching online for parts and trying to deal with MPI, I have FINALLY tracked down an MS bumper!
It hasn't been installed properly (just a quick test fit. Needs a bit of work, which may be related to the previous accident), but it's now in the shop getting looked over for things that they missed last year!

She most likely won't be on the road before winter, but I just wanted to let everyone know that this thread will need some reviving! I have a few weeks of spare time, so I'm going to look at setting up events with the WSCC for next season, as well as try to invite the local mazda dealerships to get involved with our community!
This is stuff I wanted to do last year, but I just didn't have the heart for it! Now I'm back in full swing

So lets start this early, Winnipegers! Let's at the least get this thread geared toward recent mods! Anyone have anything to add??

Looking great, Andrew! Welcome to the thread

Where are you having the paint work done? I'm looking to have some bodywork done over the next few months. Just gotta find a place that does the job properly (unlike my last shop!).

I just do most of my work myself. Sorry no recommendations.

Got the front bumper sanded, filled, primed, painted. Can't tell it's not factory.

Cleaned the MAF. No difference to the idle vibrate. Not a huge deal.

The squeal is more my concern. Not sure if It's just a whistle, or what.

Well I'd love to see the work you've done! Post some pics!

Before cleaning your maf, did you unplug the battery? Do you have any way to monitor your engine vitals (ie Scangauge or the like)? I'm sure I could let you use my Cobb AccessPORT to get a few readings off your engine to see it's health.
A few other issues for idle vibration:
-Dirty maf- make sure you unplug the neg battery terminal; could take a few days to relearn fuel trims
-Dirty eccentric shaft position sensor (ess or esps) Click. Not mentioned in that thread is the "20 brake stomp reset" (or the E-shaft profile reset). Make sure you do that after cleaning the ess!
-Motor mounts. Shouldn't be an issue with such low mileage (kilometerage?), but you never know with these cars...

Can you get a video of the squealing and post it? Or, if I have free time this week, I wouldn't have a problem taking a look for you. Just shoot me a pm with your details!

Is the squeal/whistle only on start up? Mainly Cold starts?
