Welcome... Not sure I will see much of my 8 this summer... Wife and I bought a travel trailer last year and plan to be in it more than last year.
We used it 28 days last summer.... and I bought a canoe for fishing!
Hey all, I am in Winnipeg and we bought our son a 2004 Rx8 this summer.... unfortunately we are having some issues with it. We took it to a local garage near us and they did a compression test, said seals need to be replaced. They however WON'T touch it. They suggested a new rebuilt motor be put in and quoted us $6000. Sad to say but I can't afford that.
A little history, when we bought the car it was hard starting, seller said just needed a new battery as battery was weak... I even had a friend out with us who knows cars and he agreed. We bought the car, put a new battery in no change, took it in the check starter and that's when we were told about the seals.
So kid takes it to buddies house, starts car to move it does same and then car won't start, he did say something about a bunch of white exhaust coming out !!!!!
I had car towed 80km home, did the internet google de flood but it didn't work.
What do I do with it now? I am 5k in for just the car and another 1200 on new tires. Any one know how to de flood ? if thats even what it is? Or know anyone who can fix the seals? frustrated in Winnipeg :-( I didn't realize it was a rotary engine in the car when I bought it Thanks in advance. Feel free to email me
no one here is going to give you all the answers you have to search and learn. too may topics and specifics to cover.. these cars are very special. rotary engines are not consumer friendly they are enthusiast and mechanic friendly. most members here are both.
sorry about your bad experience tough. stinks when you have to learn the hard way....... but such as life buyer beware. if you got the car at a good price you're no worse off economically speaking, looks like you over paid by about 2k. as the engine is pooched and it needed new tires.
get new engine or cut your losses.

Hello all; rx8soldier requested I join this thread a little bit back. I'm from south east of Winnipeg; owned my 2007 RX-8 since August '16. Ive had a absolute blast driving it; Unfortunately today it just got a compression test and failed pretty badly with rotor 2 averaging 4.2 between the three faces. This is partially due to a dying starter; Will retest after a new starter... but it looks like I might need it rebuilt... Here's to hoping for better numbers!
Thank you. Unfortunately got the results, which isnt good. Rotor 1: 8.1, 7.9, 7.1 Rotor 2: 5.6, 5.6, 5.5..... looks like im getting a rebuild this winter.
I'm unfamiliar with Brandon Peters. From Winnipeg?
And Yes, that's the whole MS kit I bought. Wish I could have enjoyed it more! But times have passed, and I doubt that I'll ever be back in an rx8.
At least I know that all of those ms parts have gone into some good hands!

Hello guys, Were from winnipeg. My wife went for vacation for 10 days and she left her car (05- RX8) sitting in the parking lot in a cold weather (over -20 C) when she returned she tried to start the car but it won’t. The battery was fine but it just don’t start so We have it towed to mazda delearship and they advice us that it need change the engine (my wife was so shock she just used the car to work which is 3 km away. The was ok before she left) They said the car has low compression. The car has just over 100k km. What do you guys think should we do? Help. Thanks a lot
When you say it wont start what do you mean? It cranks but doesn't fire up? Doesn't crank at all? Fire up then dies?
I wouldn't trust the dealership at all, a car not starting doesn't reflect low compression at all, typically if they have low compression they run fine cold then have problems starting when they are hot.
I'm not saying that it doesn't have low compression, because it very well could, but I'm saying there is many other possibilities that are much more probable as to why it won't start. Did the dealership conduct a rotary compression test and give you the results of each rotor face? (should get 3 pressure numbers for each rotor and a cranking RPM).
