Where is the best autobody shop here in Winnipeg? How much do you think it'll cost me for paint and installation.

i was also curious about get some some work done on the body, i talked to mazda and found their apporved factory paint shops, only one i can remember was the body shop in the waverly auto park it was right inbetween mcnaught and that other car dealer i think. Factory paint jobs on the rx8 are not cheap! my hood alone was gonna run me almost $800 they said. Also got a quote on some rust on the rocker panel, which would cost about 300, so for the work your doing prob inbetween those id imagine.

ok Winnipeg, I was away for a couple weeks, but now I'm home for a couple more lol
So... LET'S GET THIS STARTED!!!

I'm thinking next weekend. We can start off with a meet and greet, then go for a cruise around town. If anyone has any preferences on times/ dates, lemme know! I've seen some 8's, but I've yet to actually meet anyone, and that is completely unacceptable lol
Post here so that we can get an idea of how many people are interested, and if we have enough, I'll contact Gerry Gordon's Mazda to see if we can get something at their location! Always nice to have a dealership become a part of the club

Also, if anyone has any ties to the Winnipeg Mazda Club, get them on board as well (My account was deleted for some reason )

If I could get my 8 back on its wheels by the weekend, I'd come out, but I don't think that'll happen. Working on a few projects, and haven't had much time in the evenings the last while.

Nothing's wrong with it, per-se, I've just been (slowly) working on a few projects, so it's right now sitting in my garage, up on jack stands with the 4 wheels, rotors, and brake assemblies completely removed. Projects I'm hoping to get done soon (and I'm no mechanic, so it'll take me double the time) are:

1. Painting the brake calipers (red), including the interior of the rotors (black)
2. Quasi tune-up, including spark plugs (got them for a decent price at Speed Factor Racing, still need to find a good set of wires), oil change, brake fluid change, transmission oil change, limited slip differential oil change, and potentially a few other simpler items like the air filters, and possibly the serpentine belt.

So far, the holdup has been the time it's taking to prep the brake calipers for painting. I've completely removed them from the vehicle, and am in the midst of sandblasting the road grime and rust off of them. I'm trying to get them right down to bare metal so that the paint adheres better.

I might even try running some seafoam through the engine, as I'm not the original owner, so who knows what kind of carbon build-up the engine has developed. At the very least, it'll be an interesting show, what with all the smoke.

You could just do it the fun way and do some redline runs too

Tempting, but with seafoam, there's the added bonus of having the fire department potentially show up at my doorstep.

Good stuff!
I actually painted my calipers just before getting my new rims. Turned out good! But, I didn't take them off. Removing them seemed a little extreme for my taste lol Besides, the paint seems to be holding on quite well (so far!)
The fluid changes are easy enough. I was gonna do mine before I left, but I didn't get the chance. I just picked up my motor oil today, so hopefully have it done this weekend!
Seafoam is something that I'm gonna wait for. I agree with RMRx, just do a couple hard pulls to clean out the carbon. Much more fun that way, anyways

RMRx, that's awesome that you're confirmed for Driven! If I have time off, I'll definitely swing by. I'm wanting to get a good look at that turbo you have! How much tuning do you have left with MM? Any major problems since the install? BTW, I've been reading much of your install. I'm not too sure yet if I'm going to do it myself, or have someone do it for me. And, if things go well, I'm about a few months away from getting a good deal on a great turbo!

Anyone down for a meet-n'-greet????

So far with MM's tunes I'm up to Calibration 4.05 so I imagine there is only 1 or 2 more left to go until it is completed, but I am able to floor it and to be honest; its definitely a thrill.... when talking to Jeff he said he really doesn't know when it's done till its actually done.

As far as problems with the install go the only thing I had wrong was I mixed up the Jet Air hose and the OMP air hose. Luckily I noticed this mistake before I had any tunes done and hadn't hit any positive manifold pressures. The only downfall of this mistake is that I believe that the check valve in one or more of my oil injectors may not be sealing anymore because of the excess forced air that would have been running through that line. I get a loud sucking noise from the OMP hose once the car is warmed up to operating temperature and other than that I haven't looked into the issue any further. I am going to have to remove the injectors, which means removing that pesky UIM, to test them with a vacuum pump; so I will have to do that one weekend when I have some free time. Luckily I am Pre-Mixing anyway and I believe my OMP is still lubricating up to par but I think I will be replacing the injectors as a precautionary measurment as soon as I have some spare change (depending how much the injectors are gonna run me too).

Man you will save a ton doing the install yourself and the benefits of learning the car from the inside out is awesome. I would easily be able to help you with any questions or concerns you would have along the way and the install is not nearly as hard as you might think; especially once you start wrenching and you get into the groove of things. I managed to do this install by myself in my garage with nothing more than hand tools 2 jack stands and a 2 ton hydraulic Jack. It took me about 7 days (with one full weekend of work and a couple hours each week day) to be done the majority of the work for the turbo install and I imagine with guidance from myself and if you are somewhat familiar with my thread and the DIY GReddy turbo install thread you could do it in less time.

Hey Jesse, when are you gonna be in winnipeg? There's a chance I'll make the show. But if I can't, I'll hopefully get to see your ride!

dang man! Never got a chance to have a meet!
Good luck with the sale. Looks like you've got some nice parts! Is the front bumper authentic?
I've been considering the borla, but that'll come later... Maybe you should think of selling that...

The previous owner put the mazdaspeed bumper on so I can't say for sure, he said it was authentic when I bought the car. The rest of the aftermarket stuff has all been put on by me. The borla exhaust sounds awesome, absolutely loved it, I really didn't want to deal with selling parts seperately, but if the price was right I might be able to be convinced. The borla exhaust has less than 5000 km on it and I payed $1000 + tax for it new. With school starting in less than two weeks I really don't have much time to swap the exhaust for the stock one I still have.

I'm not saying I'd buy this right now. But, I am looking at a borla in the near future (over winter...)
If you wanna make yourself some extra cash, I could help you take it off, put your oem back on, and you could put it on lay-away
I'd buy now, but I'm in the process of ordering a mazdaspeed front, so that's my priority...
