wow I didn't know Fred was still around!? I used to take my old RX-7's to him for any and all work lol He got my first one running for me. This is good to hear

That's shitty about the door. People are careless, and we who value our car suffer because of it. Park in the farthest stall in the mall parking lot, and lo and behold, some J-hole pulls up beside you. It's like going to the washroom, there's plenty of empty urinals, and that same J-hole takes the one right next to you lol

I'm up for a meet, as soon as the weather starts cooperating a little better! My baby looks so gloomy, and it's pointless to take her for a wash and wax because the roads are still **** What's everyone's schedule look like for next weekend?

Signs of spring...

Looks like the 8's are slowly showing themselves. Just yesterday morning, I saw 2 out on the road. One in grey parked at a Smitty's (no license plate on the front), and another in yellow driving home (both in Ft. Richmond West).

Not sure if this question should warrant it's own thread, but I'm curious; where do most of you guys get fuel for your 8? I've either been going to Costco (generally best price), or my local Co-Op (which has a really nice conveyor-style touchless car wash for those times I don't want to do it by hand).

I've been trying to find a place that offers better than 91 octane fuel (without ethanol), but can't find any. When I'd taken the 8 on a road trip last summer in the US, I found it really liked their Premium fuel (93+ octane), but can't find any here. I know Mohawk/Husky has a 94 octane fuel at certain locations, but it contains ethanol. A friend of mine mentioned he buys 103 (?) octane fuel by the barrel for his snowmobile and mixes it, but I don't think I'd go quite THAT far.

Rob- I've only seen a few 8's in the St Vital area (one was red, and I thought for sure it was you. Didn't have your plate though lol). As for gas, I've searched on the web and we only get 91 octane here (ethanol is ****). I use any co-op.

Mark- haha thanks for the update. If you just got her out of storage, I'd recommend a good hand-wash and wax! Gotta set the wax early!

I missed this weather... Gonna go for a cruise

RobD: Mixing your own fuel, yeah that's nuts LOL. I envy Americans who can fill up on 93 octane. I go with Petrocan most of the time, Shell on occasion. And I add a couple ounces of Lucas 2-cycle before I fill.

We really should have a meet sometime soon. Be interesting to meet you all in person. I mean, come on, we all drive 8's, so we're all brilliant and good looking to begin with. This weekend is shaping up crummy weather-wise, maybe weekends of May 7 or 14? Or the long weekend?

I've got my 8 up on jack stands in my garage at the moment. I'm working on cleaning up the rotors and calipers. Hoping to give them a new paint job, but it's a slow process removing all the rust. Hoping to get her back on the road in a week or two... until I find another project to work on that gets her off the road again. Boy do I ever wish I had a heated garage so I could do these things during the winter.

ha I hear you on that!
I had my car stored in heated garage all winter, but it was too dark to get any real work done lol
If you need a hand with anything, lemme know

Thanks man! BTW: The new rims look great!

I'm having a bit of an issue getting the rotors off; already mangled a perfectly good rubber mallet trying to force it off, but I think I'll try this trick I found; using two bolts with two nuts on each, through the mounting bracket for the caliper, and use a wrench to force the rotor off. That way I can break the rusted seal on one side, rotate the caliper, and do the same on the other side. We'll see how it goes.

I've tried the liquid wrench trick, to no avail. There's just way too much rust for that stuff to work. I'll give the other option a try before resorting to something potentially damaging (God forbid I end up putting a torch to it!).

I HAD originally named my RX-8 "Rex" (I know, so original), but it just didn't seem to suit, especially not considering it has a female voice for the navigation system, so I had to rename her with a female name, and out came "Roxy". No conflict with any ex-girlfriends, so it was kosher.

Turbo

Soldier,

Sorry for no specs, I mentioned them before, but it's easy to lose track with all of the posts your thread has now generated.

I have a 2006 Shinka in Copper Mica. I've had her since new, and she is my pride and joy. Absolutely love her. But I am no handy man. It was a significant emotional event just taking the battery out for winter storage!

That said, now that the warranty period is done, I am thinking of throwing a turbo on her. I am not sure what the general experience with this mod is, but I did find a shop north of Minneapolis that seems like a great place to have it done.

I really do find myself wishing she had a bit more guts off the line. Straight line acceleration, my wife's volvo can do the same. Though that does have a turbo and would be left in the dust at the first turn...

You know, I thought your name looked familiar! Just didn't read back...
Turbo is a great choice. Just make sure you know what you're doing!! lol What did you have in mind?
Which shop you talking about? That's Turblown's (check out Turblown Turbo Kit) area. That's where I'd consider my install (If I fail doin it myself lol)

Well, just got the news that I leave for an undetermined amount of time on Sunday or Monday. Not going far (Shilo, MB), but I'm not too happy about it. However, I may have some time off, so if anyone want to organize some meets, feel free to shoot me a pm.
If no one is doing anything on Saturday, shoot me a pm, I'll give you my number and we can do some cruisin! I'm HOPING to change the oil/ tranny/ diff in the morning. If you want, we'll do yours as well

North of Minneapolis isnt that Esmeril??

Also has anyone heard of Yokohama Driven Canada, happening in Winnipeg in July? Here's the link: www.drivenshow.ca.

I was asked by one of the coordinators yesterday if they payed for me if I'd put my 8 in it as they have never had a modified 8 at it before. Looks pretty cool; anyone been to it before?

It could be Esmeril? Turblown is also there. I like their setup moar

As for Driven, I've never heard of it. But, that's only because of my lack of community info lol I'm usually gone with my job, and I don't pay attention to media.

If you entered your car, I'd be down for sure! (provided I"m in town lol). I'm hoping to have boost in my engine no later than next summer. Been keeping quiet and doing a lot of searching, but I think I've found what I'm looking for. But, I don't wanna spread the news, just yet...
How's your boost doin? Are you all set up with MM? Any problems? I've read your build a bunch of times. Looks like a clean install!

^ Thanks! Yeah everything is holding up great. Just received my Walbro and new brake pads from BHR the other day so I need to find time to install those. As far as set up with MM I still have one or two more calibrations needed just to perfect the tune (I'll get those tuesday hopefully). Car is running great, pulling great and sounding great. I'm hoping to buy an EBC sooner rather than later so I can tune my boost curve and get around 9psi peak and hold boost alot longer as it drops off a few psi around 7k (GReddy turbo too small!). I'm hoping, and I've heard rumor from a pretty legit source, that BHR is going to come up with a turbo upgrade for the GReddy sometime this summer; who knows .... but I won't be able to afford that till next summer, I've managed to find myself in a small amount of debt for the time being and I need to start saving up for my next and final year of school haha.

If I do decide to go to that show; which would be really fun; I'll make sure to drop you a PM.

Edit: PS I also prefer the Turblown set-up and I hear Elliot is fantastic to deal with there.

Uhh, so change this. I'm actually not leaving for Shilo. I'm going farther away, I'm I'm quite happy about it!! Shitty news is that I'm gone all summer, and I'll have to store my car
BUT, I'll be ordering a ton of stuff for my baby while I'm gone, so when I come back, it'll be like an early christmas for Roxy

Awesome news man! I'm really wanting to see your set-up!
With work and all, I've been pretty busy. But, I've been meaning to swing into S-toon to visit some buddies that I was deployed with. Maybe later this summer I can make the visit... Then I can see first hand how a RENESIS is meant to be powered
