Sorry we lost you on the cruise Matt.... The main thing, though, is that you didn't get into a wreck and didn't get hurt.

We stopped a few times waiting to see if you'd call to find where we were. But, some of the guys thought you might've been too shaken up by the spin-out. The white Integra's spin out was pretty much an out-of-control U-turn directly into on-coming traffic (ie 10 o'clock direction). Good thing there weren't any cars in their path at the time and the ones coming up saw him and slowed down.

Safety needs to always be our #1 priority. Anyhow. Hope you aren't too spooked by the whole thing. And, hope to see you in a few weeks...

yea =\ i wasn't really that shaken up, i was more embarassed than anything else.

When you guys turned off twords Crestline it was so foggy i didn't see untill it was too late, so i had to keep going (the FB followed me). Then i was just following them the rest of the way. I would have called but it was dangerous enough as it was to drive lol.

hehe.....saftey should always be the #1 priority. even as simple as staying together in the group. that way, if something happens to somebody, everybody can go back to help the one person in trouble.....lol, i should know . oh, and ALWAYS bring rope. some 50ft or so of rope should do fine. trust me on that .

With groups larger than 4, it's always difficult to stay together, especially if we're not familiar with each others' driving background (sorry, that's my fault for not asking).

I always try to keep a nice easy pace, but the Integra seemed like he wanted to go faster so I sped up a little (it wasn't a dangerous pace in my car with my tires). Rain takes away your safety margin; you've got to be even more smooth on the steering, brakes, and throttle.

IMHO, there are two good ways to keep the group together:
1.) Print maps, distribute them to everyone before the run. This works best (if you've planned the run ahead of time, and know how many people will show up). It's best if you've got a codriver to navigate.

2.) Carry Motorola radios, be sure the front and the rear of the pack have radios. We've done this before, and it works great until the group gets split up: the mountain walls really limit the range of radios. In that case, the person in front knows the person in back is too far away to respond on the radio. Again, this works better when you've got a copilot to do the talking.

Another thing, if you get seperated, slow down and call someone ASAP. I didn't realize we had lost Matt and (Undisputed-FB from rx7club) until someone else mentioned it while we were stopped at a turnout. It's nearly impossible to see further than 4 cars behind you in the rearview mirror.

In hindsight, I should have just let the Integra go ahead and risk getting himself hurt or lost, but when one car pushes me I always assume the others want to go faster also. I think the FC suspension might have a tendancy to spin also: we've had at least two other FC's spin during previous runs.

my thoughts, even though I did not come...the cruise is for showing off the rotary life, not for racing. Think about the line of Miata's you passed, wouldn't have been that impressive if it was 6 miatas, 3 Mazda 3's, an Eclipse and 4 Mustangs..right? Lets keep it to rotary cars for the runs...if other people want to come and bring other cars to the meet, that is fine, but not for the drive...it is just too hard, as it is, to keep all of us together, let alone friends of friends who have not been on our cruises before, and don't know how we drive. Pushing the lead driver is fine, but if they don't go faster, than you slow down.

Glad I didn't go, I would have been upset to see/hear about all those things happening in the rain of all things. Spin outs because of tires is one thing, but spin outs for being stupid is putting too many things in jeopardy. This is one reason why I WILL not follow certain people on cruises, not enough trust that they won't do something to jeopardize me. Be safe.

My thoughts.

i agree... safety is always #1. and, if the miata club had seen us in our normal club turnout it would've been more fun as we crossed paths on the road.

i think it would be fun if we did that run from the opposite direction one of these days- ie start from the 15 and head inland. it would also help alleviate the traffic going home w/ the on-going construction of the 15 south, which had the freeway backed up for miles, since traffic was diverted to the 215.

well everyone.... unfortunatly, my motor has been pulled out once again.... only this time, the block has to be re-rebuilt the intermediate housing had a huge hole in it.... it was in a spot that should never have a problem, so dave never thought to look there....so when he went to fill the coolant up, it went straight into the oil pan... bummer... its a sad day for jesse
