Ha I thought no-one around San Berdoo liked RX-8's or even mazda's for that matter. I just moved to Tucson from Berdoo a month and a half ago.

I think the suggestion was to give Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) a try. This is a very technical and challenging road. I am going to invite Robert Baltazar (from Glendora, in his Black 2nd Gen) to lead this (with your permission) as he knows this road very well.

This route, like our drive last Saturday, can be weather dependent. Will make a point of keeping up to date on the status of GMR and let you know.

The 3rd Saturday in January (the 15th) works really well for me.

Thanks again for a great time last Saturday!

P.S. For lunch, I highly recommend "Legends" in Upland (hamburgers, etc) or if the group wants Mexican Food again, Casa Jiminez in Upland is good, too!

no you dont have to have an 8, but a rotary is highly recomended..... (whats a pony?)

also we (friends) like to try and do other runs in between the "rotary" meets. if you are interested in hanging out more then once a month, feel free to let me know.

Thanks ricco for the advise. considering it is a LONG weather dependant run, mabe we should make it kinda of a tenative thing untill that day. kinda like we did last time. mabe have a shorter not so weather dependant rout as plan B.

:D

just a suggestion, talk to you all later!

P.S. i guess i should post all of this on the RX-7 site also.

P.S.S. below are a few pics from the last run we were talking about. (look how pretty the silver and yellow8's are!!!)

I made the ride on Glendora Mountain Road from Upland to Glendora on Saturday, to refresh my memory of the road -

Well, it's an awesome drive - but not one that should be done FAST in a group. I took it in my RX8 and I don't think I was going faster than 40 MPH at any point, and it was still a highly entertaining drive.

Lots of the road is two lane (barely) without a center stripe, and NO shoulder. Lots and lots of "S" turns, many of them blind, so long following distances and "reasonable" speed is indicated.

Also, there was a pretty strong presence of the Sheriff's Dept. at a couple of key spots, complete with radar guns and binoculars.

Even so, it was a highly entertaining drive - I still say the earlier the better, to minimize the presence of other traffic.

a good place to eat in Rancho Cucamogna is Legends Burgers It's 4 minutes away from the 210 freeway. maybe we can meet there for lunch and then go on a local drive.

Riccio and I were thinking of doing a photo shoot at the star in Upland (dont know if you know about it) but it's a huge star on the local mountains. if you guys wanna join... let me know. (preferably rx-8's for the photoshoots.)

what ever you think Riccio, we will be in your teritory this time, so we are pretty much going to trust your better judgment. god thing is we still have plenty of time, as it is almost a month away.
Just let us know on both RX-8, and RX-7 club web sites.

I dont know if you all have heard of "Donut Man" (a donut store in Glendora off of lone hill ave)

they serve very tasty donuts that are oversized.

we can possible meet there if wanted... then drive through GMR.

(Just a suggestion)

Wishfull thinking!

:D

yeah, the last two were at 9:00 and it seemed like an extra hour would have been perfect, but everyone had plans areound 12:00 or 1:00 so we all decided the extra hour would be in the morning instead.

i kinda figured 8:00 once a month would be ok

as for the first sat of every month.... sounds like a good idea, we should seriously consider that, but as for Jan lets stick to Jan 15th since everyone on this site and the RX-7 club site have all made plans for the 15th.

mabe we could start the in feb??? gives us somehting to talk about over lunch on the 15th!

anyways, talk to you all later!

I suggest: Donut Man for breakfast in Glendora.

More info........

Well, the reason he is saying the Donut Place in Glendora, is that is where Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) starts - at it's Western origin.

If the road is open, you can then drive East and you end up at Baldy Village, where you then drive down the hill to Upland. Once in Upland, I suggested either Legends Burgers for lunch, or if you guys want Mexican again, going to Casa Jiminez, also in Upland.

The problem is the weather - once there is really severe weather, the "powers that be" usually shut down GMR until sometime in the spring. It is likely IMO that the rainstorm (monsoon) we are now having will be sufficient to close it down. I drove it last Friday in my FD, and there was a fair amount of sliding rock debris on the road then.

It is, without a doubt, the most technical and challenging and enjoyable road I have ever driven. That said, the last portion of it before you get to Baldy Village does not have a center line painted on - probably because at several points it is definitely (again IMO) not two lanes wide.

I was pretty nervous last Friday when I was avoiding rocks (big, fist size and larger) on the road, and was driving over on the left side of this narrow road. There are several blind twisty corners - I had the radio OFF and the window OPEN listening for any approaching motor sound as I drove. Luckily, during that 15 minute (or more - was driving pretty slow) portion of the drive, only one motorcycle was going West - and he passed me where we could both see each other clearly in plenty of time/distance.

I am writing here publicly, what I have told Speeddemon privately, I am thinking that we need to wait until spring for this run. The weather the past few days may have sealed it for us in any case. - GMR is probably closed.

You guys had a great time going up Oak Canyon - maybe we could meet in San Bernardino and caravan there, and have lunch at the end. I don't know that run - is it affected by weather?

Anyway - I'm sure we can collectively think of something. I have the 15th reserved for whatever we decide to do.

ohhhhh man!!!!!!

dont you hate it when you type up a big long message, and then your boss walks in on you and you THOUGHT you hit copy before closing the window, just to find out later that you in fact did NOT copy your previouse LONG message.

anyways, i will make this one WAY shorter, and WAY more to the point, as i dont feel like typing it all again. (it was long)

anyways, it said something like Thanks Riccio for your input, how about we all wait to drive such a technical road for a day that we can accually enjoy it. lets count on it being closed, or full of rocks.

also said something like the reason i wanted to meet in Rancho area is because i wanted to give the Rancho are people to be closer to home. but if everyone is cool with a San Bernardino meet the that is cool with me as i live here.

also said something like i dont htink we have to have a run set in stone as between all of us, at the last minute if we all want to go for a drive i am sure we can think of someplace to go.

the reason i say this is because we have no idea what weather will be like. if its raining, we might all just want to go to a place we can just hang out at, and not even go on a drive. but if its clear then we all might want to go to forest falls or something.

anyways, i had also given a time and place. this is not set in stone its just an idea

Ok - sounds good, I'll be there....

Do you have the address on E Street - I don't know S'Bdino very well. I mapquest everywhere I go, and then hope it's right. (Sometimes it's not, and then it gets interesting.)

Anyway - HAPPY NEW YEAR to the San Bernardino Group - looking forward to seeing everybody on the 15th!

I went by that place yesterday.

If you guys are lookin for a good twisty place to run(as it looks from me skimming the newer threads) we could always make the run up to Crestline and get lunch up by Lake Gregory. Doesn't take that long to go up and I think it's a lot of fun.

Oh and Speedmon, my hotmail got hacked, so I added you on my other one.
