I'm new to the thread but are you guys still having a meet on saturday?
Meet at Pirate Ciuty Tattoo at 9:00 or at Farmer Boys at 7:45/8:00 (if you want breakfast). I will be at Farmer Boys and will be taking those who show, to the Tattoo shop. Directions to the Tattoo shop are on the 1st page of the link.
Make sure you are there by 10:00, cause that is when we leave for the cruise. If you plan to come, you may want to send a pm to someone for their cell number, in case you get lost....

No joke.
Got hit for the third time today at work...I'm fricken tired of the hassle of trying to keep something nice, nice. Gonna get something reasonable to drive back and forth to work, and will be transfering parts over to the Snowfl8k.
I've been thinking about this a lot, just havent really thought things through....then being hit today sent me over the edge.
Gonna run it hard at the autocross on Sunday, and then hopefully sell it fast. I plan to put it up with the bodykit and RB exhaust. Everything else will come off, or be sold at replacement cost to the buyer.
Little bitter tonight, but I'll manage...and we'll (erica and I) still have one 8.

keith, in all honesty, you are now spoiled to the 8's agressive handling performance. anything else you get will be sub-par. i know this from experience .
i too would take the car off your hands if i were in a situation that would allow me to. i'd just go down to the dealer and get me a new chrome fuel door, and say it was missing the hinge when i got it . lol

i have to ask how long you were thinking about getting rid of the 8, are the other forum members influencing you, and just the other day you were saying maybe Kumho can sponser you and you have down those mroe diffficult installs?

Keith,
This sounds like a poorly thought out, emotional impulse decision.
Lets look at this:
-You just added even more mods to your car.
-You're really starting to get into Auto Cross (doing well, and really enjoying it)
-Using Erica's car to Auto Cross just won't be the same. (you know that deep down)
-Don't you have a truck in the garage that could probably work as your daily driver with a little wrench time / money put into it?
-Last but not least: You love your car. There's no denying that...it's why you try so hard to keep it looking the way you do.
Just my $.02

where do u work at keith? i know it won't make you feel any better, but this kinda **** happens everywhere. i work in a really nice building, and this kinda stuff still happens all the time. i had valve stems stolen off my tires, and my co-worker's mustang cobra got hit by someone too last week and they didn't leave a note or anything. (and, this is a private lot for only people who work in the building!) so, don't feel too badly. just in the future scope out a nice parking spot far away from everyone else if possible. maybe even use a car cover when necessary. there's always a brighter side of things...

thanks for all the comments guys. It is not the damage that has made the decision, it was just something that finally put me over the edge.
The truth of it is, is that Erica and I need to move on in our lives, and put things in perspective.
I am paying at least 1300 a month to keep my car, and then we need to multiply that by two, since we have two 8's. To put this in perspective, the house mortgage is 1400 a month. Now, we can afford this, it is not an issue right now....but we are trying to make preparations for things down the road, with keeping our goals in mind.
We are definately going to continue with one 8, and it just makes more sense to keep the one that is cheaper cost, and has fewer miles. I will be selling my 8 with the body kit, and any other parts the new buyer would want, and will be transferring all autocross related parts over to the Snowfl8k.
I'll see you guys Saturday morning.

ah, i c... yah, it's good to review your finances periodically and make improvements. looking back- the 8 was an impulse buy for me- since don't really need it. and, sometimes, i wonder how i got so crazy to decide to do it. still, $1300 per month seems unusually high. i think all the mods, meets, and auto-x'ing are really adding up, eh? but, yah- for a dual-income household, u guys should be putting away some each month. kids and college tuition are going to be expensive

Yes it's California Speedway.
Actually, you shouldn't have a problem getting into the speedway, the issue might be getting into the autocross parking lot.

I just read the Solo2 website, it says "No Alcohol or intoxicants may be used on the event site" and that's the only warning.

you know your finances better then I do. but wouldent keeping the 8, and buying a car that is cheap and gets great gas milage be a better option.
your car is what $570 a month ( I remember it was pretty high )
so the rest of your 1,300 is &730 in insurance and gas. ( i kknow you drive alot)
I am sure you can find a car that is $230 a month (we did) which leaves you with $500 a month to pay for insurance on the second vehicle (shich is not much) and gas,......
in this case you would not be driving your $35k car every day, putting on tons of miles, burning up the expensive tires, and literally burning the money that goes in the tank.
I think you could if not make money on the "deal" you could at least break even. so for the same amount of money every month, you could keep your baby, she can keep her baby, and you can drive a decent car everyday that you dont care as much about when it comes to door dings and crap like that. and on the weekend, you both have your toys.
If I drove more then the 2 miles a day I do, I know I would do this. I used to love when I was driving my Kia being able to park up front and not worry so much about the door dings it got. i am gonna be pissed when my 8 gets her first ding.
also this was the reason for the Cobalt. Michelle litterally spends half as much on gas. rather then burning the money in the tank, she gets to at least own something that we can drive around in. driving to Yucaipia now is really not that big of a deal to us when the car cost half as much to drive.
now that I tried convincing you to get a beater, here is the trying to convince you to keep your 8 also. although you are new to the working on the cars thing (getting quite good i must admit) you have always been into car a little, the vetts, the truck, the civic, now the 8. you really think you will be happy not having that sexy black beast made just the way you wanted it sitting in your garage waiting for you to take her out?
yes I know Erica has hers still, but it's hers. that's her baby the way SHE wanted it. it looks like a chicks car and I lOVE that about it. that is one mean looking girls car. yours is one mean looking mans car. they look perfect next to each other in the garage and driving down the road on our meets.
well now that I left one long *** post for you to read I will stop there as we will see each other tonight. we can talk more then.
DISCLAIMER: again I said you know your finances better then I do. I am mearly speaking from what I see, and from what we would (and have) done. I know that whatever decission you two make woud be the best for the two of you.
there is my $.10

RB Springs
New Rear Springs.
Front used 2000 miles.
$180 or best offer.
Going to Racing Suspension.
Also, I agree buy a beater that get 30 MPG or more.
I may be selling my Buick so that gets 22.5MPG or more.
Was your post a hint that a little one is coming soon?
Congrats!

Why don't you just sell your car to Jason?
He has good credit. His bank didn't loose any money and I know he can take over payments.
His bank should be able to finance him.

If Jason is interested in the car...all I want is my payoff amount. The car would come with the bodykit, since I really can't take that off...but would probably come with the Hiros, not the Volkjs. I would puut those on the Snowfl8k...along with all the autocross related upgrades...unless the buyer would pay me replacement cosat for these. I wouldn't charge for the time Casey, Denward, Snow, Cesar and I have in installation costs...but just parts.
No baby, just making adjustments as we do make plans to move forward.
Casey, maybe we'll be able to talk more at the practice tomorrow...we didn't gte much time to talk tonight...you looked sleepy

I'm assuming the damage to Keith's car is on the passenger side? (since all pics are from drivers?)

Did Keith run over a cone?
After looking at it, if you were to rune over a cone and the base hit the car it can make a dent like that without making a scratch.
Check it to see if there is a small crease.
It could have come from door molding from someone opening their door.

Dunno why it happened this time around, but the nose of my 8 took some serious pebble damage from the cruise. What's weird tho, is that the roads seemed smooth, and I barely heard anything. (Malibu is usually a lot rougher.)
Anyways, after I washed the car Saturday evening, I noticed about half a dozen or so small paint chips scattered around the front just above the grill- in the appearance of gray dots... In most cases, the paint is completely chipped off to the metal and fairly visible. <sob> I tried some touch-up paint, but that just made it look worse I think... <lol> <sigh>
Oh well, i'm going to look for a good body shop and pay out-of-pocket to have them do a one-time clean-up of all the chips, nicks, and scratches. i seem to recall that a good friend of mine had this done on his lexus sc onec-upon-a-time and seemed to have had great results. it'll be expensive, but should be worth the $ to have it done right. (if i do anymore w/ that touch up paint it'll be a crime of mutilation...lol) i've also decided that i'm going to go buy the mazda rx-8 a car bra- just for use when we go cruisin'
Hopefully, I'm the only one this happened to...

Detrich: When you have it done, you should just get a clear bra put on. Might help against those pesky little rocks.
#5279

thanks jorge... yah, i've read a lot here on clear bras. but, when i think about it, i've never really had a problem w/ rocks in the city and on the highway- only on our canyon cruises, it seems. <lol> but, economically the clear bra doesn't make sense to me. it costs almost $500 installed, and even when it does its job and absorbs the rocks- poof- u have spend another $500 to get a new one. the regular bra, on the other hand, is only $125, and i don't mind just putting it on for our cruises. and, if it gets thrashed by rocks- it's cheap enough to throw away and just get another one.
