Hey slightly irrelevant to the discussions going on now but just picked up my 8 from cenntenial Mazda shop with a "new to me" motor and will be switching to 10-30w (due to the heat here) and I'm wondering what products you guys get/ recommend for premixing and further enhancing my chance of engine life (not a newbie to rotary in general had FC but I know Ren is a little more "fragile" I know stay on top of coils, plugs, carbon build up, etc ) I know there is search and all that but I figured for best anwsers/quick tips will be from the locals themselves for our area lol thanks in advance

 

Indemitsu premix is money. Best thing for engine longevity would be get an access port and open her up on both ends. CAI, cat less mid pipe and cat back would do a world of good for your car.

Biggest thing is the AP will let you run the engine cooler and you won't need to premix. Running cooler from the fans will kill your cat sooner and then your coils. The cat less mid pipe will keep the air flow good and keep your coils good longer. AP will also turn off the CEL from the mid pipe. CAI and CB will just help the air flow and gas milage all together.

May seem like a lot but so worth it!

 

Someguyposting, what year is it? If you picked up an s2 (2009+) then an access port wont even work for your car.

 

New engine in a series 2? Possible but I would think we are talking series 1here. Which is it someguy?

 

Ya I already planned on going cat less and it's an 04 GT it's gone through all it's recalls so it's had the flash and exhaust. Only 70 miles on "new to me" motor lol

I assumed he had an s1, but would hate to see someone spend $400 and have nothing to show for it.

I don't know the exact reasons why an AP wont work with the s2 but they don't and they have no plans to make it work. Only a few places somewhat recently have even been able to tune them. I have not seen any posts about an s2 engine failing, but I'm sure its bound to happen. I'm at 30k miles and have no problems that I know of(knock on wood).

 

There are as many different opinions on premix as there are rotary drivers. I have lost one engine to heat and lack of oiling and do not intend the loss of another. I direct inject oil into the engine by using a Sohn adapter and still premix at 4oz per tank. I also have the AP that starts my fans up sooner to keep the engine cooler. A BHR radiator, Mazport upgraded water pump and a Pettit secondary cooling system also keep my engine cool. While I recommend premix there are others who do not.

What year series 2? Cobb did not feel that enough series 2 engines were sold to warrant the time and money required to adapt the AP to it. I do know that Mazda Maniac was doing some work with the AP for the Series 2 but I am not sure he any concrete results yet.

 

Mine is an 09, but I thought it wouldn't do anything for an s2 at all? I thought they did major changes to the ecu for an s2 and thats why it didn't work, but I may be wrong. Like I said before some other companys have had success with tuning an s2 but its probably to expensive to get done unless your going forced induction and actually need it.

 

They increased the oil flow but there is still a lack of even flow. Premix makes all areas oiled. Again if you ask three peeps you will get three different answers expecially on how much to use. To me it's cheep protection.

 

Hey guys, so i was supposed to come here today and announce that i was able to get a new switchblade key for my 04 8. It was a simple relatively painless process. Ordered the key on ebay and got the remote programmed. Liberty lock was supposed to cut it and program it for me, but their machine wasnt working so they cut it for free for me. Centennial offered to program it for 50, a rip off but not bad a price. All in all 100 dollars to get a second key considering i didnt have a spare.

Now comes the issue, mazdas programming went fine, however now when i take the keys out of the ignition to leave, the car will beep as if the key is still in. Now the remote wont work and wont reprogram as well. I called Mazda and they said it cant be the programming and its the way the key was cut while Liberty says that its the programming and the problem is not with the key! The service person that took care of me was nice and said he'll take a look at it for me. Any thoughts from you guys? Ill keep you all posted regardless.

 

It's a s1 (04 as I previously mentioned unless rebuilds are built with/up to spec of s2 and in that case motor would be s2?) and I'm planning on AEM intake RB mid and CB (racing one not the rev8) and now an AP is also on the list lol.
